    good air conditioner September 04, 2008

    For what i wanted, it works very well. In hindsight, i wish i had purchased an air conditioner with a temperature setting, so that I could set it once and leave it. Instead, with this one, I have to go back and change the settings based on the outside temp. But, again, for what I wanted at the time, it works very well, and the remote is a great idea.

    Rattle, rattle, rattle April 27, 2008

    I have owned 12 window air conditioners from 5,000 to 12,000 BTU over the years. This is by far the loudest and noisiest one yet. The compressor is louder than average and the front grill rattles LOUDLY and buzzes LOUDLY whenever the compressor comes on. I finally had to put rubber rubber weather striping all around the edge of the cabinet where the grill snaps on to the unit and remove the directional fins inside the grill to reduce the buzzes and rattles. Now I just have to put up with a much louder than average compressor, minimal rattling AND the inability to precisely control the room temperature. With only four choices I have found 64 to be too cool, 70 a bit too warm and the 2 higher settings useless. The old adage holds up: You get what you pay for. I'd suggest paying the $50 extra and getting the other Kenmore 10,000 BTU over this one.

    this airconditioner does work well, but it is full of rattles and noise, there is nothing in the casing to keep the unit from vibrating metal to metal, sometimes it will not rattle after it has been beat enough, other times it will drive me out of my home it is so noisy, in fact, it is the noisiest thing in the whole house. I now wish I had never bought this unit, I live in low income housing and have had their people up three times to check the installation, the noises all come from inside the unit itself.

    I bought this AC unit recently and  I am very happy with it. I love the fact that is has a remote and that you can set a timer so it will turn on when you arent home. This is great for hot days where you don't want it cranking all day but want a cool house when you come home from work. It's a little noisy but no worse than any other AC I have owned.

    When the front unit in our apartment went out, I began shopping around to find a 10,000 BTU unit that would fit the space and meet the need. Before purchasing I did the research and read the reviews. Went to the store and still hands down chose this model. For all who say it is noisy and rattly, I say you didn't follow the instructions and install it correctly. We took our time, screwed and unscrewed screws, and in less than 2 hours had it perfectly installed and running. INSTRUCTIONS ARE THERE FOR A PURPOSE. The unit is quiet, powerful, and meets the need. Sure, I would have liked to have purchased the more energy efficient model, but it was too wide for the window space in this NYC metro area apartment. We are so happy, comfortable, and best of all, COOL. It is much quieter than our old unit and does the job better than it ever did.
