    Kenmore 1440 Just right for a family of four October 21, 2010

    Our family has been very rough on this machine.  While it was not made to wash the olive seeds or other hard nuts the machine has been a work horse.  Having said this we needed to call for the repair and the service folks were helpful.

    The warranty costs are not worth the need which will usually be after the time you want to have a repair to extend the life of the unit.

    Never again January 20, 2011

    We bought a Kenmore 18 inch built-in five years ago when we moved into this house. NEVER AGAIN. The bottom rack has almost rusted away. I ordered a replacement and got a rack that is too narrow. It keeps falling off the rails. Trying to get help from Sears was very frustrating. For several weeks, they refused to acknowledge that I had ordered the replacement. Then finally they 'found' my order, but could not offer any relief. What I have will work, but I have to be careful when sliding the bottom rack back into the machine. Never another Kenmore.

    This dishwasher was bad out of the box. The telephone repair techs don't have a clue. The repair techs that came to my house 3 times were great once they figured out the wiring diagram doesn't match the washer. After some hit or miss tries at rewiring I now have a working washer that doesn't match the diagram. I wonder how long it will last!

    I've owned this dishwasher for about 6 months .Although I had to get used to it's small size, I've learned how to put alot of dishes in it. It cleans well with no spots. It does take it about 3 hours to complete the cycle. It's fairly quiet and I have had no problems with it.

    consistently leaves dirty dishes,Doesn't hold a lot,Not terribly loud, but not quiet,Bad design,Defective,Won't clean well when loaded properly,Sears service is a ripoff

    We are terribly disappointed with this machine.  It replaced a previous Kenmore which was a good one but finally died of old age.  This one is significantly smaller on the inside and to make things worse the design of the racks is horrible. I don't know what kinds of glasses, cups, bowls, and dishes they thought someone might own, but very few of ours fit well, meaning that the effective capacity is even less than it might appear.  We used to be able to get 4 days' worth in a load, now we are lucky to get a little over 2 days' worth.

    The cleaning quality is very poor compared to the old one.  One thing in particular we noticed is that since receiving the new machine our white mugs now all have tea stains which never used to happen with the old machine.  They are not permanent, we can scrub them by hand to remove the stains, but we never had to do that in the past.

    The design of the soap dispenser is almost defective in that it fails to open more than a sliver unless you very firmly push the top rack in as far as it can possibly go, much harder than I imagine the engineers would want you to push on it.  Later, when you go to pull the top rack out it 'jumps' out when it comes unstuck because you had to shove it in so firmly, rattling the glasses and mugs.  No matter how slowly and carefully I try to unstick it, it jumps anyway.  And sometimes we push the rack in as far as it can go and still sometimes there is still soap left in the dispenser.

    We expect this dishwasher will not last nearly as long as the previous one, it just feels and looks "cheaper" and is clearly of much lower quality.

    If we hadn't had such a horrible experience with the crooks in the Sears Service organization we might have thought about trying to get them to do something about the soap dispenser.  But we don't want to ever deal with them again.  Long story short, it took them 3 daytime visits to us (i.e. 3 days off from work) and 2 trips back and forth to the store for me before they finally delivered and installed the correct machine.  And what we're left with is an inferior thing that barely serves its purpose.
