Kenmore  40 gal. 12-Year Natural Gas Water Heater

Installed 08/28/2007, Leaking out bottom 04/25/2013

Had a standard build water hearter, that had a thermal element go bad. Rather than repair an aging system, decided to replace the tank with this one. Has been about a month, works great. The water seems much warmer than before (be careful). Has a fast turn over after showers and water use. Had professional install, was done and working in 45 mins. *Would have given 5 star, but phone customer service screwed up the order and delayed installation by a day. Very pushy about the additional warranty, and some quotes auotmatically include the $239**

I just installed this new hot water heater about 2 weeks ago. It is working great. This hot water heater is 2" larger in diameter than the old one which made the installation harder than I expected because of close clearances.

Great recovery for multiple showers in family.

It does the job. It was not an easy swap for the olt water heater due to the fact that the hot water outlet pipe was not pointed straight up, but was a few degrees off. I had to make another trip to the store to get a flexible connection instead of using rigid copper pipe.

Works great! The real plus is the service. Purchase by noon and it's installed that day. Prior to this I tried to buy from a competitor but it took over a month just to try and get an estimate...still no estimate. I will always consider Sears first...not sLowes.

Bought item under the impression it held a 12 year warrenty on parts.Even if i did not buy the extended warrenty, as it was sold by the Sears representive??? Sears also placed a sticker on the side of the tank stating 12 years limited lifetime warrenty on parts. 7years later the pilot assembley (flame sensor) failed. Cost of part $60 Sears refused to replace part unless a sears Tech. was sent for repair. Labor cost exceeded part cost. So i find it the warrenty is very limited. I can not find these parts at your local home repair center like most less expensive hot water tanks. A flame sensor or T- couple at most places are only about $12 or less

I had a Kenmore 12 year tank previously that was still good after 16 years so decided to go with another Kenmore. Brought it home and found its top and bottom edges badly dented 5 x 8 inches and an inch deep. Hauled it back to Sears for another. Pick up guys said it happens all the time. Nothing between the shipping box thin cardboard and the tank. If possible inspect the tank before bringing it home, or tell installer BEFORE delivery that you don't want a dented tank. Also, there are tiny thin rubber "heat traps" in the inlet and outlet nipples that are supposed to reduce heat leaving the tank when no water flows. They are so thin and flimsy, where each flexes every time water is drawn looks like it would eventually separate, flow in the pipes and clog the hot water fixture where it lodges. The limited good they do doesn?t seem worth the risk. Consider pulling them out (can?t be put back in) if you don?t want that risk. Otherwise the tank seems good quality.

Selected model 33114 for several reasons: (1) Needed a 40 gallon unit (2) Wanted 2 anode rods for better / longer corrosion protection Here in Nevada our water heaters last about 6 years or so before they start leaking due to tank corrosion. Many neighbors have had theirs replaced recently so I knew ours was due to fail in the next year or so. Rather than wait for an emergency, I elected to buy now. This unit has two anodes which is why it has a 12 year tank warranty. All water heaters develop cracks in the "glass" porcelain lining and the water begins to attack the steel tank. Anodes are designed to be attacked first before the steel tank. Having two anodes simply extends the time period before the steel water tank begins to corrode. Most water heaters have one anode and thus only a 6 year tank warranty. The water heater is a good quality unit. Sears installation was first class. I used a 10% off coupon and my total installed cost was about 60% what local plumbing companies were quoting. Good deal. I recommend it.

I've used Kenmoore water heaters for the past 20 years and am very satisfied the the product. This latest water heater falls right in line with the past, still am very satisfied. I installed the water heater myself with little difficulty. I would deffinitely recomend this water heater.
