    Great machine May 18, 2008

I bought this machine a year and a half ago, it was my Christmas gift from my family. I could not be happier with this machine. It is so quiet and smooth with lots of stitches. I have never had one problem with it and sew almost daily. I have even sewn 8 + layers of heavy denim on it with no problem, i just had to go slowly. Likewise, I have sewn light airy fabric with the same great results. I really can't see the need to ever buy another machine, this one does everything I could possibly need it to. I highly redommend this machine for the price and the quality. I can't imagine getting anything better, and certainly not for the price!

    15% restocking fee, jams May 26, 2007

What I love about this machine is all the features! What I did not like is a spring that held the presser foot on flew off during the first week. I could not put the presser foot back on. I returned it and there was a 15% restocking fee. I also read later that people had trouble with this machine's computer locking up and had to have it serviced by Sears everytime this happened to reset it.

Love This Machine January 29, 2012

I have had my 19606 for 6 years and I have never had a problem with it. I sew regularly and have never even had to have it serviced. I learned to sew on a much older, but similar computerized Kenmore machine that my husbands aunt gave me when she upgraded to a much more pricey Pf--f machine. She gave me just enough time to fall in love with it before she took it back because she perferred it so much over her new pricey one. So I went to Sears and bought the 19606 model discounted as an openned shelf model. All it was missing was the manual which I downloaded for free. It has worked perfectly since day one and still running strong. Great machine for the money!

I rely heavily on feedback & reviews before purchasing any big ticket items online. I chose this particular machine as a birthday present for me because it stated it was quiet and smooth, and all of the positive feedback it got, but after trying it out, I have an older kenmore that's not as noisy as this. There were a lot of stitches, and patterns, but i don't really know where they came up with the number 765? I'm a serious quilter/seamstress and am satisfied with the sewing machine itself and the different stitches and features, but now I realize I could have gotten a less expensive sewing mahine that has pretty much the same functions as this Kenmore for a lot less--brother has one that is comparable and is $300 less--and you know Kenmore is now the same as Brother and Janome. Don't get me wrong, I love Kenmore and pretty much choose Kenmore for my sewing machine purchases, but I just expected a lot more for the price.

    Love the 19606 February 13, 2008

What I liked: I was afraid it would be a learning curve, going from a mechanical machine (Nelco Ultra Dressmaker...WORKHORSE!) to a computerized gadget. I WAS WRONG! Plugged in the machine, sat piddling 'round with the feet and accessories, getting them organized while watching the instructional DVD, and was off and sewing comfortably in under 30 minutes. The quiet of the machine is astounding, and the smooth action is wonderful. The bobbins drop easily, and both threading the machine and pulling up the bobbin thread are easier than an easy thing. It's designed to load a bobbin with thread without unthreading the machine, but I haven't taken advantage of that option yet (each bobbin I've had to load has been with the same thread I'm using in the needle at the moment). Once you get accustomed to what is where in the system, it's easy to get around all the stitches and reset everything to where you want it. If I had to buy again, I would definitely buy this machine or it's replacement. Also, love the fact that the Kenmore machines are made by Janome. Can we say "Toyota/Lexus"?? ;-) What I don't like about the machine: This is not about the machine per se...more about it's display, or a possible "quick reference" card. While all the buttons are well marked in images and the computer display is clear as a bell (and again, packed with great images), I wouldn't mind some abbreviated words showing what things are. Did I thouch the right button for the overlock stitch, or did I accidentally choose the over-edge stitch, etc. Failing to do that in the display (not sure there's enough space), a handy laminated "quick reference" card to hang on my wall or place in the drawer at my side would be nice while I get used to what is where. Also, a QR card for presser foot recommendations with the main stitches would be nice (the display often still just recommends the general foot when it works perfectly well with it, but you actually WANT the guidewires on the over-edge foot).
