    Kenmore Garbage disposal unit March 09, 2011

    We purchased this one to replace our previous unit that we put in 16 years ago due to rust expansion in the outlet port. That one was a 7 year unit, so we figured this 10 year unit would last over 20 years. What made the installation easy was that we were able to use the old stainless steel sink mounting assembly by twisting off the mounting ring and putting the new one right on, PVC & hoses all in the very same spots. Used a pigtail cord to plug it into the dedicated duplex socket. GTG. When we cranked it up it was much quieter than the old one. You just know it is going to hum right along effortlessly with that 1 hp motor driving it. The only problem was I forgot to knock out the dishwasher plug before I hung & hooked it up. Fortunately I had the air gap overflow pointed into the sink when we ran the dishwasher the first time. With the twist ring, I was able to quickly disconnect, drop it onto an upside down plastic bucket and pop the plug. Put t right back in. Yes I know .. read the instructions. This is a very nice and simple machine. :o)

    sink stopper failed November 06, 2007

    The sink stopper rubber casket failed allowing water to leak. when I tryed to use the 10 year warrant I was told they were unable to locate if I purchased this disposer, and it would cost $20.00 plus shipping just for a new stopper-I just purchased this disposer around three years ago. I'm not happy with the service or the warranty issue.

    We wanted a durable stainless model. We went with the Elite, Sear's top-o-the-line disposal.

    We were glad to see that it was marked "Made in U.S.A."  Will Kenmore continue to keep jobs here in the states? Will consumers care enough to support domestically produced products?

    Installation was straight-forward. But if a person is not especially handy with tools or comfortable in an awkward position, it might be a bit tricky without a helper. You really want to make sure it goes in properly so it won't leak.

    The disposal is a standard design, enhanced by high-quality stainless body and cutters. It does have some sound insulating features, but with our sink, it didn't seem to make much difference. It's ok though, not louder than our last one even though it is twice as powerful.

    We tested it with various kinds of foods and it works fine. The documentation says you should NOT feed it overly fiberous things (artichoke leaves, corn husks, etc.). In my experience (with any disposal) is that fibery strands pass partially chopped through the disposal and can obstruct the drain. So I usually just compost the flower stems and celery stalks.

    It's a good product. We're pleased with it.

    The disposer was fairly easy to install and appears to work quite well. It is not as quiet as I expected, but it does seem to do the job efficiently. I like the fact that it has a 10-year warranty.

    Pros:
    Quiet,looks durable

    We have a small space untder the sink and were worried that the Elite would take up too much room. It fit in nicely. It has worked well and was very quiet. We are very happy with our choice.

    Quiet,ELITE branding

    Great value. Since this item is hidden from view, curious why stainless steel...but hey, it's an ELITE Model, yes? Very quiet, very effective disposal unit. I've just replaced my entire kitchen with new Kenmore Elite...and when the prior disposal broke down, it was a no-brainer. Trusted brand...very easy to install myself (do not hire a guy).
