This Kenmore double-oven gas range is perfect for parties. April 02, 2011

My has wife wanted a double oven for years. When we prepare meals for family gatherings or parties, there are always several items that need to bake or broil at differing temps or times simultaneously. Her criteria were simple; It must be a totally gas appliance, have top burners with varied caloric outputs, and be white, not stainless as most now are. I spent hours researching options and concluded the Kenmore was best for our needs.

So,I purchased the stove just before Christmas and the holiday cooking season. We could not be happier! We previously had a Jennaire which served us well for years, but this stove/oven combination is ideal for us. The two ovens give us choice of a smaller broiler/bake oven or a larger baking oven. The four burners have differing heat outputs from simmer to really hot.

My only complaint is that I cannot remove the stove top/pan under the burners for cleaning as I could with the Jennaire. But, this is a very small thing to give up for the versatility of the new Kenmore. I highly recommend this appliance.

Kenmore Elite gas range is not worth the price February 06, 2012

Since January 17th of this year, I have had two ranges.  The first  range was exchanged because of several defects such as warped grates, severely dented burner cover in bottom oven and an accent light level that was unadjustable.  This is a $2000 plus range.  Now I find the second range is defective also.  The top oven will not heat to temperature and it also has a warped grate...or maybe it is the top of the range.  At this point it doesn't matter.  The top oven, the smaller of the two, does not double as a "warming oven".  That is rediculous for the price.  Also, it you get any food on the grates, it will not wipe off.  You must use grate cleaner and submerge the grates.  This is because the surface is very rough instead of smooth.  When wiping off the grates, black flakes drop on the range top.  Kenmore Elite is not worth the price.  I do not have any idea how this will be resolved, but I am one very unhappy customer.  It's a shame because my kitchen has many Sears appliances that make me very happy.  Sorry Sears, but you need to produce the quality to match the price.  NO RECCOMENDATION HERE!  Save your money; buy something else.

Elite / lg double oven gas range February 05, 2012

    Pros:
    Design, Functions
    Cons:
    Cost...Wait for a Sale!!

Nice range. For the money it costs, you should get a broiler pan. Lp conversion is not included in install. Gas company will convert for less money. It is advertised as natural/lp, so there should not be a separate conversion charge, in addition to the install.

Kenmore 790.7892 double oven good but loud convection fan November 26, 2011
    via Sears.com
    By frog22 of Chicago, IL

I really like this double oven.  Both ovens heat up normal speed I think.  The bottom oven heats a little faster.  Its nice that the top oven has a broiler.  I haven't figured out what the difference between "convection bake" and "convection roast" are in the bottom oven.   It seems like they both operate the same way.

The convection fan is a little rumbly sounding on mine - louder than i would have expected, and like all modern appliances, it tries to tell you how to run your business - so the convection fan only comes on 6 minutes after you start the cook cycle. There is no manual way to start the fan.  So if you accidentally turn off the oven or something, you'll have to wait 6 minutes more for the fan to kick back on.  However, most of the time you'd just be opening the oven door to check your food, which shuts off the fan, but then as soon as you close the door the fan kicks on again so this point isn't really a big deal unless you absentmindedly turn off the fan.

The oven racks are coated in ceramic or something, and they have a space in the front of them you can grab witih a hot pad/ove glove so that they slide in and out really easy most of the time.  That is nice because then you don't have to reach into the oven to pull stuff out, you can just slide the rack out part way to grab the food.  Also you can run the cleaning cycle with the racks inside.

The stovetop is great with its 5 burners. The grills seem to be set up in the air a little higher than many stoves, which is good because then the flames actually hit the bottom of the pans better for more efficient use of the flames.  Really its a great oven.  Only thing they should have added for a high-end oven is temperature probes for meat.  But I guess you don't cook things that need it very often and a regular cheapy internal meat thermometer works just as well.  It comes with a coupon for a free broiler pan, cast iron searing rack, and roasting rack inside the packet with the instruction manual. (at least presently it does)

I am just finishing a pumpkin pie in the top oven as I write this.  I would have liked to have tried out a turkey in the bottom oven today since it will fit a pretty big one, but it wasn't my turn to host.  Happy Thanksgiving.

Someone made a comment about the gas line position.  It is true that the recessed space isn't very large and is at the bottom only.  My gas line is higher up on the wall, so I just don't have the oven pushed all the way back to the wall and it looks fine anyway.

One of the best features is that the stovetop has a lot of room on it.  Many of the double ovens I saw out there didn't really have enough space for a griddle on the top because the stovetop was so small.  This one has a big enough space for a griddle without it having to lean over the front of the stove which would be annoying.

I would recommend to anyone except those that want a silent or near silent convection fan because its not.
