Kenmore is America’s # 1 appliance brand, trusted in the homes of more than 100 million Americans

Extra-wide cooking surface in a dual-fuel stove

The Kenmore Elite 40-inch dual fuel self-cleaning range has an extra-wide cooktop and two ovens, to give you plenty of space, even when preparing your most complicated dishes. The cooktop includes two gas-powered power burners—14,200 and 12,000 BTU—to bring water to a quick boil or when you need to apply high heat to your dishes. Two standard 9,500-BTU burners give you greater versatility for a wide range of sides and entrees. And a simmer burner maintains a steady 5,000 BTU for working with delicate sauces, melting chocolate or infusing oil with herbs.

This Kenmore dual-fuel stove features two electric-powered ovens arranged side by side to give you easier access to your roasts, pies and freshly baked bread. The ovens are controlled separately with the Easy Set™ electronic controls, giving you more options for cooking different dishes at different temperatures at the same time. The main oven uses true convection to evenly brown dishes in less time than a conventional oven. The main oven is self-cleaning, making cleanup a snap.

Best Buy for the Money in a Dual Fuel
I did a lot of research before I bought this range 3 years ago. I knew I wanted dual fuel (I bake a lot, so I wanted electric ovens), five or six burners and, if possible, two ovens. I had struggled with eye-level ovens in the past, so decided I'd go "wide" rather than have two stacked wall ovens. It was on sale for $1999 and I snatched it up. I splurged and bought a second rack for the small oven (maybe $12?) and a 42" SS hood (a Broan Allure). The range and the hood are a great combo and look great together! The slightly-longer hood (2") is undetectable. I couldn't be happier with the range. The continuous burners make moving pots a breeze, and the glass top is pretty easy to clean. I use some Bar Keeper's Friend on stubborn stains, then spray some glass cleaner and wipe it up with a paper towel. It shines with no streaks. The larger oven is fantastic--bakes evenly and at precise temps. I bake bread, so having consistent temps is very important. The convection feature is great for the bread, roasts, oven-browns, etc. I use the regular bake feature for braising stews and pot roasts. As for the small oven--I bought a set of toaster-oven cookware when I bought the range. Check out Mirro--they make a line of small pans and roasters. Also, Pyrex makes a 71/2" wide glass pan that fits perfectly. The oven is great for re-warming bread or baking a small side casserole when the larger oven is in use. The versatility of having two ovens can't be beat. To be honest, I would prefer the control knobs be on the front of the range rather than on top, but it's no big deal. I use the timer constantly--bit of a pain since it's slow to crank up, but it works. The two front high-BTU burners are the workhorses for me, and I like the fact that can use large pots and pans without any difficulty. I use stainless steel, aluminum, copper, cast iron, and porcelain-clad cookware, and have never had a problem with tilting on the grates. I just used the self-cleaning feature on the large oven today--came out like new. The small oven presents more of a challenge because of its size and the fact that you need to clean it manually, but it never gets too bad anyway. Once a year is good for that, so no complaints on the cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, how about the fact that you can put the grates, the knobs, and the gas burner lids right in the DW? I do it like every two weeks--they come out great. To sum up, I would buy this range again without hesitation. For the money, you can't beat it--its one of those "duh, why didn't I do this years ago?" things considering how much I like to cook. Add to it the compliments from everybody who sees it and friends who insist on "shaking at the stove" when they come for dinner, and you have just about the best major cooking appliance ever in the price range.

Wouldn't buy again
Like a few of the other reviewers - I find this range to be attractive (stainless), but it is not as efficient as I hoped. I can't really cook 5 things simultaneously on the 5 top. Although there are five burners, five pans don't fit on the raised surface at one time. The small oven is useless, unless you have small pans (and many of the small pans you can find in the store are still to large). Additionally, there is only one rack for this oven. Worst of all, after a few years, the oven started giving me ERRORS. Research indicated the computer board is poorly designed: when it gets overheated, it generates ERRORS. You would think the board would be designed to hold -up to heat or be placed away from the cooktop heat. (The computer board is above the cooktop, directly behind the clock/controls). Now the board has gone out completely. Like others, I expected to get 8-10 years out of my ovens - not five. In about $600, I'll be able to get my oven working again.

Most excellent

After reading previous reviews I was nervous about purchasing. However my kitchen remodel included a 1959 40 inch ge stove that finally gave up the ghost. My options for replacement were limited and I did not want to spend thousands. I have had and loved this stove for over a yr and have not experienced any of the problems other purchasers cited. It is absolutely wonderful. Have used self clean cycle several times and it works perfectly. No faulty parts, cleaning is not difficult and actual use is easy and quick. Love my stove

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nice larger range

Everything I saw that I liked was 30" and I knew I wanted bigger for my kitchen remodel. The 48" ranges were way too expensive so this is a great compromise and a great price. I like the dual fuel and the convection. The five burner top is useful and the power burners boil water in no time. I like the small side oven for warming bread or baking in smaller pans without having to power up,the larger side. I do wish it came with more than one rack though. The larger oven has three racks which is great and the wok stand and grill are great extras

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love my new range.....except slick painted grates. Shld be cast iron.

We have a 40"opening in our cabinets from long ago and this was the only range we were able to locate in 40" Gas. I love everything about it except - Since the sample range is not on the showroom floor here in Louisville, I had to purchase sight unseen. Love it except for the burner grates. Have no idea why they have the slippery, granite coating on the cast iron. My skillets and pots literally slide across the grates and have to be really careful to get firm grip on pot before turning or stirring food. If replacement grates without coating were available I would certainly order replacements.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

LOVE this range!

This range is FANTASTIC. The electric oven is spot-on, having two ovens means I can cook for large groups, and the gas range makes cooking dinner for the family a breeze. The multiple baking options are fantastic too. I wish I had purchased this sooner! I would recommend this to anyone who has the space and wants a free-standing range.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
poor quality

I purchased this stove 9 months ago for my new home.. It would be great for the person who cooks very little. it looks impressive, but I'm waiting on the service man to come as I write this.. Its very hard to clean with the top being glass and the burners linked together. The knobs set up very high and take up your stove top space.. The front burners are the power burners and even on low they are very hot.. The back burners are the normal burners and only small short pans fit on them. Its very hard to use all the burners on the stove at the same time. The back panel gets too hot while cooking and the plastic comes loose from the back. The repair man told me this one was a defect and is installing a new one today.. After reading other reviews I realized it was poor quality from the factory..The person who designed this stove could not be a cook.. Also I had more room in my oven on a normal size stove then I do now. Very disappointed, will not buy kenmore again!!!

rust and hard to clean!!!!

I purchased the oven almost 2 yrs. ago and i can never get it clean looking! The top of the stove is mirror like and black and shows everything! The stainless steel looks like it's rusting! I've tried everything to get it off but it just won't come off! I thought it wasn't supposed to rust!!?!!?! When i do get it as clean as i can, i have to scrub back and fourth on those rust spots and some and i mean a little bit does comes off but not all!!! I actually would love the stove if it didn't get those rust like spots. Also, i went to a kitchen store at the mall and purchased extra small pans (made for a toaster oven)  for the extra side oven and they work great!!!

My new range. Best ever!

I just moved into a house that has this range. I love the combination and as a baker, it cooks just like at work, but the gas top is way better than I have ever had, even at work. It cooks very evenly on top and in the convection oven. The side broiler oven is a bit dangerous for my 2 year old if I use it because it opens sideways like a microwave, but it cooks so beautifully, I may take it with me whenever I move. Never have felt so good about a stove before, but I will cook more at home because of it!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I should return it

We bought this unit because the kitchen was designed around a stove of this width. Burner Controls: The range is HI, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, LO. There is no difference between 5, 4, 3, and 2. A big jump from HI to 6 and 6 to 5, then nothing until 2 to LO. At least with our old electric stove the numbers had meaning. I have to bend down and look at the flame. There is also a lot of slop in the knobs when you turn them from high to low and then to high. The knobs turn, but the flame does not change. I have camping stoves with much better flame control. I am calling Sears about the burner controls since there was no way to evaluate them in the store. Side Oven: The oven is too narrow for a 9 by 9 pan. It could hold a single loaf pan or an 8 by 8. Some baked potatoes, etc. I don't know why they made it so narrow. I agree with the other reviewers. It is worthless at this width. And only ONE rack? Pretty cheap. I have not tried the convection oven. Be aware. The pans sit very high off the stove -- 2.75 inches from the surface. You really want to consider this in your purchase. Don't be fooled by the stainless steel. This is just a budget stove dressed up to look "commercial". Really disappointing.
