    Good vacuum for the money February 25, 2011

    This vacuum has better suction than the Hoover Whirlwind I had several years ago. It also seems much better made. The suction is incredible. I like the fact that you can switch from floor to beater brush very easily with the slider switch on the handle. The first time I used it I failed to switch the slider a little further down in order to make the beater brush go. It still picked everything up! The hose is a little awkward for tight places but it does a great job on stairs and the little rotary brush that goes on the end of the hose works great--much better than the competitor's (Hoover). The machine feels very solid and as a result is heavier and a little bit harder to push, but I think part of that is the tremendous suction. I bought this particular machine because it was recommended by **************** as a best buy and because Kenmore also has one of the best reliability records--not so with Hoover or Eureka, both of which I will never buy again because of past experience. I want a machine that will not break down after two year's use. I really do like this vacuum. Ten years down the road we'll see if I have the same opinion. Time will tell.

    Kenmore Intuition 31100 Upright Vacuum - Eh, not so much. April 02, 2011

    We were pleased with this purchase at first. Aside from the fact that the hose kept slipping free or attachments would "pop off" while using the vacuum, we were satisfied with the way it worked. However, the plastic parts loose their elasticity quickly, and have begun breaking, even though we put the vacuum through "mild" use.

    We went with this because we saw several positive personal and professional reviews. While the unit picks up dirt, hair, etc... well, it is not well made. For as much as we spent on it, I would expect the parts to hold up longer than 4-5 months before breaking off.

    If you are looking for a sturdy, dependable vacuum - do not look here.

    Went against my intuition and bought a Kenmore, instead of my norm, a hoover.....never again. Had way too many maintenance issues and didn't seem to last as long.

    This is a great product for hard floors. Hard to push on any pile carpet, but does a great job. The rotary brush attachment does NOT work and that is hugely disappointing. If I spin the brush with my fingers, it starts rotating. As soon as it touches anything it stops rotating the brush, so removes NO pet hair or lint. Very disappointed because that was a major feature I was looking for - to remove pet hair from couch and stairs.

    We've been vacuum shopping for a while and even went to a stand-alone vacuum store. They tried to sell us a Panasonic, which had a terrible repair record in Consumer Reports. We were looking for a vacuum that performs well on both carpet and hardwoods, had some type of filter for our allergies and also a machine that rated relatively well in Consumer Report's repair list. We've been very pleased with this vacuum. It's quiter than our old Eureka, does an awesome job on the carpets, has a bare floor mode and comes with super filtering bags. The cord is longer than my old vacuum and I like the light on it; it was very easy to assemble. The machine does weigh more than other vacuums but not by a lot. If allergies aren't a concern, you can also purchase cheaper paper bags for the machine.

    My first complaint is that it doesn't get close enough to the edge. I don't want to have to use the crevice tool every time I want to do a quick vacuum. Also, it doesn't seem to have as much suction as my old vacuum. I'm not sure how much better it will clean with the HEPA filtration system, which is why my husband insisted on purchasing this unit.
