Better Than Rated April 18, 2009

I purchased this Kenmore 3 weeks ago and have had no issues at all with every other day cleaning on carpet and tile. I do not feel it is heavy and even had my 54 lb 8 year old daughter try it out and she was able to use on the carpet. It is more difficult to manuever than other uprights I have used but to me not a (-) factor. What I really like is the cleaning power and the fact that I don't have to empty/clean filters after every use like I had to do with a CR best buy Hoover bagless. Does great with pet hair also and attachments are easy to use on furniture. Dirt and bag change sensors are also a nice feature. For under $200, this is the best vacuum cleaner I have used in 20 years

    Falling apart! May 29, 2009

I purchased this vacuum in July 2008. I have replaced the belt 3 times. The very first time I used this vacuum, the belt broke. I brought it in for repair and 2 weeks later it was returned. I've replaced the belts myself since. The pet hair attachment never worked right. It constantly gets jammed, I take it apart, remove the dust and put it back together. After doing this at least 5 or 6 times per use... I put it in a cabinet and left it there. The pedal you step on to release the handle was broken off the first month I had this. Now we push the plastic release thingy with our fingers. The sensor system is a joke. It goes from 4 lights to none and back to 4. I replace the bag often as I have dogs and cats. It takes 2 or 3 uses for the "full bag" indicator to shut off after putting a new bag on. I have tried different brands, but to no avail. The hose attachment will inexplicitly and randomly take over. This means that when in the middle of vacuuming, the hose has the suction and not the main vacuum. You will need to remove the hose, put it back in its place and then see if its still the source of suction. It usually takes 3 or 4 tries at this to get things back to where they should be. Right now, the motor has died completely. The vacuum is back at Sears for repair. Thankfully, I haven't had this thing for a year and its still under manufacturer warranty. If they offer to replace it, I will see I can pay the difference for a better model. This is a terrible, cheap and unreliable vacuum. I am so disappointed in this product.

Kenmore Vacuum #37100 by far the worst I have ever owned March 24, 2011
    via Sears.com
    By Jimbo11 of Westmont, IL
    Pros:
    cord nice and long
    Cons:
Heavy, hard to push,Carpet height adjuster hard to use,Carpet or floor level labeled wrong, foot pedal came off repeatedly, loud,Sensors didn't work, terrible job on bare floors

I am in complete agreement with the negative feedback on this unit. It is very difficult to push around (and I am a 6'3" guy!!). The carpet/bare floor pedal appears to be labeled backwards. The oddly located handle release pedal is cheap plastic and constantlly pops out and has to be pressed back in by hand. The dirt sensor and full bag indicator lights are completely erroneous most of the time. After approximately 4 months of torture, the roller/brush assembly disintegrated and we had to take it in for service. I also noted that the rubber wheels were all peeling apart (they did nothing to resolve that issue). After we got it back, within 1 month's time, the belt lost tension and the roller no longer spun.

We had actually purchased a 2-yr service plan, but by the end of 6 months, we bought a Bissell unit with a Lifetime Belt and put this Kenmore unit in the trash. Consequently, I have made a promise to myself that we will never buy a Kenmore vacuum cleaner again. By the way, the Bissell vacuum has been in use for 15 months and hasn't let us down yet. We both work from home and have two hairy dogs, so this vacuum gets used 5 days per week through the entire home.

Kenmore upright vacuum model 37100 broke in 6 months. June 24, 2010
    via Sears.com
By Roxyparks of Del Mar, CA
    Cons:
Breaks before the 1 year warranty!

The first Kenmore upright vacuum (model 37100) that I purchased from Sears broke in 6 months.  The bracket that held the brush melted and it could not be repaired.  The repair center told me to get a replacement since it was under warranty.  The replacement vacuum (same model) broke within a year (burning smell while running) and the repair center said that it could not be repaired and instructed me to get a replacement.  Sears would not honor the warranty because the replacement vacuum broke just after the year was up for the first vacuum.  Sears repair center said that "this line of vacuums is defective and have had many issues".  Save your money and go with another brand!

Belt slips off,Heavy, hard to push

WOW it must be a lemon for everyone - ours is only one year old if that - it just died midstream vacumming - and just read it did the same thing - but thankfully i ddint get a shock - we hated this vacumm from day one - belts break constantly, hoses fall out - HEAVY its the heaviest vacumm ever - I lift weights and this is heavy - even my husband complains about the heaviness - we loved our old kenmore which was awesome till that died as well - guess i have to switch from kenmores.

Nice features, but unacceptable quality & performance! March 09, 2010
    via Sears.com
By Martel of New Port Richey, FL
    Pros:
    HEPA filters good
    Cons:
Release pedal isn't sturdy,Mediocre vacuuming power,Belt slips off

I bought the Kenmore 37100 in April of 2008 to replace a Eureka 4870, which was ~8 years old and was giving off an odd burning rubber type of odor when used (even though it still vacuumed effectively).

The Kenmore had all the appealing features advertised, including the HEPA filter which I wanted because my wife and I have been allergy prone and dust sensitive and our second little one had just been born. We had a Kenmore washer & dryer set for 12 years (now 14 and going strong, but the washer is just now starting to show rust in the clothes drum) and were very pleased, so we thought we would try the Kenmore vacuum.

    The problems:

Right from the beginning, we noticed that the vacuuming power of the new Kenmore was notably less than the performance from the aging Eureka. While not as important, for the record, the Kenmore is also bulkier and heavier than the Eureka, which had essentially all the same features (except the HEPA filter).

Additionally, the Kenmore 37100 has had two constantly recurring problems that must be dealt with every few times we vacuumed. First, the drive belt often slips off. Sometimes off the brush roller end, sometimes off the top end that is driven by the motor. Each time, the vacuum must be flipped over, the cover plate removed, and the brush roller removed to get enough slack in the belt. Then the brush roller must be carefully fit back in place (it only seats in the frame when placed in at certain angles). None of this is very difficult to do, but it is an aggravation and time consuming-- especially when the vacuum is only a few weeks old!

The second recurring problem is the pedal which unlocks the vacuum from the upright position so that you do basic vacuuming. If the large plastic pedal near the base of the unit (which feels less than study) is depressed at the wrong angle, it pops loose. The pedal isn't broken, but it does come off and the spring underneath often shoots out. This fix tends to be more difficult in that the spring must be placed back in exactly the right position and then the plastic pedal has to be forced back into it's position so it clips in place.

I have owned this vacuum less than two years, never being pleased with its performance. Last week as my wife was going to plug it in, she was shocked by the vac (a large static electricity type shock, not a full stick-your-finger-in-an-outlet shock) and the vac died on the spot. I haven't been able to get it going. The manual doesn't indicate that it has a fuse to change, and I'm not very motivated to see it fixed.

Of course, it may be I just had a lemon. But I don't recommend that you take the chance. If this was the only vac I ever owned, I might rate it a 3, not having much to compare it to and it does the basic job of cleaning.  Unfortunately, having owned & borrowed numerous machines over the years, I can have to say it is one of the worst.  I will be checking **************** to see how they rate other vacuums. In the meantime, the 10 year old Eureka is going strong. I just had to pull it in from the garage where it was sucking up sawdust from woodworking projects.
