refrigerator is great; service is poor

Please read to the bottom to see the negative issue.

Overall my family and I really like our refrigerator.  We went from a counter depth side by side to a full size french door, with outside drawer and bottom freezer.  This refrigerator has so much space.  The outside accessible drawer is great.  I store all of my lunch preparation needs in it (lunch meat, cheese, mustard, lettuce) and my salad fixings so I only need to open the drawer for my frequently used items and avoid letting cold air out and warm air in so I save on energy.  Compared with other french door refrigerators where you must open both doors then open the drawer - we really save time and money.  Before we purchased this refrigerator I was concerned about the size of the large drawer and wondered if I could fit a head of lettuce or cabbage.  I was pleasantly surprised that they fit!  I also fit dole fruit containers - three high, two cartons of eggs stacked one on top of the other, grated cheese in deli containers, carrots, celery, bell peppers.  The drawer is large!

I also store my other frequently used items (milk) on the right side of the refrigerator so that we use the right door most often and only open one-half of the refrigerator.  Again we save on energy costs due to less cold-warm air exchange. 

The left hand door shelves are small.  I cannot fit much in there.  But this isn't the worst thing. 

I also like the inside glass floor so I can see what I have in the drawer.  We have no issues with the ice maker noise as we read in other reviews.  The water filter provides good water.  We no longer buy gallons of water for our coffee maker.  We use water from the refrigerator.  We still buy water for plain drinking.

The main disappointing issue we have with the refrigerator is that when it was delivered we checked it over but did not unpack everything.  The inside deli drawer was in place and taped shut inside the refrigerator.  After the delivery personnel left and we completely unpacked the refrigerator we removed the deli drawer assembly and removed the tape.  I tried to open the drawer from the assembly but I could not.  It was stuck.  We pulled and yanked and got it open maybe 2 inches.  So we decided that we should call customer service.  We then tried to put the assembly back in the refrigerator so we could adjust the other shelves but we could not get the deli drawer back into the refrigerator brackets.  More for customer service.  After being on hold for more than 20 minutes I was finally connected.  The woman I spoke to ended up sending me an email with a parts list and told me to identify the part we needed.  We needed the whole deli drawer assembly so I had to choose all of the parts.  A problem I identified was that the parts diagram showed screws holding the assembly together and we had rivets.  It was close to 8pm and at 8pm I got disconnected from customer service.  BUT I had her email address so I sent an email.  I followed up with a phone call the next day.  They had to send out a service technician to determine what the problem was.  I had to wait two weeks and take a day off from work to have the technician come to my home to tell me that the drawer would not slide in and out and that the assembly did not fit into the brackets in the refrigerator.  He "ordered" the parts to be delivered to my home and said that he put me on his schedule for 2 weeks so that he could come out and assemble the drawer.  More than three weeks passed and we never received any parts and no technician ever called us to schedule a visit.  I called the Kitchen Aid service department again.  Their solution was to send out a technician from the same company to assess the situation!  I told the customer service person that I could not take another day off from work and that they should access the notes from the previous technician.  Apparently that technician did not do his job and his notes were not sufficient.  I bet he got paid for that service call!  I told the customer service person that I was tired of waiting, that I did not want anyone from that same service company in my home and that I wanted Kitchen Aid to send me a drawer assembly. They could easily take it out of a refrigerator in their warehouse and ship it to me.  I paid my greater than $2500 bill on time and my money was not defective.  The least I expected was a refrigerator with working parts.  He refused saying that he needed to follow protocol.  His company's protocol did not work the first time so I had no confidence that it work the second time.  He finally gave in and provided the names other service companies in my area.  I recognized one such service company that I trusted.  This service company now has my drawer assembly.  It has been more than three weeks since the second service company received the drawer.  They say that they ordered the parts but have not yet received them.  I feel that I have been more than patient.  I will call the service company and Kitchen Aid again tomorrow.

I do not usually write reviews.  When I receive exceptional service I usually write a letter to the company praising the person who provided it.  I am compelled to write about the negative issue in this case since I purchased my refrigerator on June 2, 2012 and it is now August 28, 2012 and I still do not have a deli drawer.  I think this is disgraceful.  This product is supposed to be made in the USA.  Parts could have arrived from China in less than three months.  I like the refrigerator but am extremely UNSATISFIED with Kitchen Aid customer service - which does NOT provide CUSTOMER SERVICE.  I will think twice before ever buying another Kitchen Aid product.

Great deal on refrigerator

The two drawers had small scratch and there are two spots on left side that there are about three small dings each. Touch up paint on the handles. The one spot on the side does not show because it is against the cabinets. The other shows only if you are looking for it. For $1300/savings couldn't walk away from it!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

So far I am very pleased with this purchase. Easy access, well lit, great having the 2nd drawer for fresh and commonly used items. Didn't think the Ice maker would match the volume of my old one but it has kept up. Also like the sliding bins in the freezer for quick access to frozen fruit. The drawer closing assist is nice also.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love the 2 drawers for freezer non frozen items American made

First Kitchenaid appliance ever and impressed by features.  The measuring for amount of water from dispenser.  Looked at most brands and found this one is best combination of features and value.  Wanted to buy an american made product and feel more people should consider this fact when looking.
