KitchenAide 6qt Mixer
I own a small Specialty Dessert business and I use this mixer for all of my baking. It is the best mixer I have ever owned. It is sturdy and dependable. I have owned this mixer for 4 years and I have never had a problem with it. I bake approxiamtely 35 cakes a month and I use this mixer for all of my baking. I also use it for my personal cooking needs. I recommend this item for anyone that does a lot of baking because you can not only depend on it to always work, but you can also do other things while mixing. The silver mixer is the best as far as I am concerned in looks, because it wipes off easily and looks brand new every time. No finger marks or streaks. I simply love it!

Extremely loud
I received this for my birthday in August & am fed up with using it because of how loud it is. I have an older, smaller tilt head model that is nice & quiet, but this mixer makes a loud, slightly high pitched grinding noise. My friend who has the same one said hers is much quieter & it sounds like the gears or motor are working too hard. I also used the whisk attachment to beat 2 egg whites into a thick foam and it didn't work at all. Didn't even touch the bottom of the bowl so only the top got whisked. I had to use my small mixer to do the job. I feel obligated to use the new one since it was an expensive gift but I'd rather just use my smaller older mixer. I also find it difficult to snap the bowl into place. Have to press it down really hard to get it in. Definitely not happy with it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Received it as a Christmas gift. Used it for the first time and I just love everything about it! Made my mixing so much easier and quicker. If I wasn't such a busy mommy, I'd be baking every day just to use my KitchenAid.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Perfect for Small Time Bakers

Firstly, my mother has had her Classic Kitchen Aid Since about 1972, over 40 years. It still works like new and is showing no signs of quitting.I will probably inherit it. lol I got my first Kitchen Aid, a 5 qt Artisan, about 5 years ago and it is probably going to last almost as long as my mother's. The only reason mine might have a shorter life is because I bake twice as much as she ever did (her words). I make everything from cakes, brownines, cookies, frostings, and light/soft yheast doughs in that mixer. My only complaint for it is the fact that if I am making a heavier yheast dough, or even some cookie doughs, with it, I have to finish the dough by hand simply because the motor isn't strong enough to handle that weight and do the job correctly. So I have to take the dough out when it has come together but is still really sticky. I almost burnt the motor up a few times and actually got it smoking and smelling once. But, once it cooled down a few hours later, it was just fine and I now know another dough it really isn't equipped to handle. I find nothing wrong with that in reality, it's considered a residential stand mixer and isn't meant for either heavy duty or extended use. Now I have the Professional 600, just got it a few days ago, and I am thrilled. The reason I went with this mixer is because my family and friends have finally convinced me to sell my bakery at the local farmer's market. As far as yheast and heavier doughs go, I only have a few selected to go out at first but I want to make sure everything is mixed right and that breads are kneaded properly. I refuse to put my name to something and ask money for it if it isn't done 100% correct. I also don't want to do my wrists in doing numerous batches a week by hand. So I needed something with more power. I decided on this mixer mainly because it is a KitchenAid. I would have gone with the full commercial 8qt but didn't have the money and read that you have to watch where you plug it in because it can trip circuit breakers in a residential house (it is meant for a commercial kitchen so that makes since). Maybe one day.... :) Back to the Professional 600, I only got it a few days ago and have already put it though it's paces making sure it will do before the farmer's market season really gets going. I started with a simple egg white whipping to hear out the motor to make sure shipping didn't cause any unseen damage. I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. I worked my way through cake batter, soft cookies, butter cream, very firm cookie dough for molding, plain white bread, egg bread, and finally a whole wheat. This is a work horse To address the noise other's complain about - it's a bigger mixer than the typical version most people get, what did you expect? Silence? Go work in a commercial bakery. I did in college and those big floor mixers and very nice but are VERY LOUD!!!! The bigger the motor the more noise it will make. No manufacture can get around that. To the fact that the bowl can wobble while mixing. It's not screwed into the heavy base of the mixer but is suspended by three points, it's going to move. It's not going anywhere so long as you pay attention and don't through rocks in there. Back to those big commercial floor mixers. Some of them attach in a way that makes you wonder if they will hop off and some of them move too when loaded down. To the fact that it can't knead bread dough correctly. I haven't seen any issues and the spiral dough hook is far superior than the c-shaped one that is basically a carnival ride for dough once it's gets stuck on the hook. Add your flour little by little and be patient. When they say knead for no more than 4 minutes they mean the time when it is really stressing the motor. When the dough looks like batter and still needs a lot of flour, that doesn't count as kneading time because it isn't dough yet. Also, I've made 3 or 4 yheast doughs and one very heavy cookie dough and I did notice that at the end of kneading I would hear the motor struggling a little, it wasn't warm but it was starting to reach the point where it would have to really work to move that dough. So far, when I hear that, I check my dough and it is ready to come out and be shaped by hand or be put in the cookie molds. Trust me, the machine has done all the hard work for you. The little bit of kneading to shape the bread into one nice rough piece isn't hard. And if you see a smaller ball chasing the larger on around the bowl. That's ok. Just knead it into the main one when you shape the dough. You have to listen to the machine just like you listen to your body when you exercise. It helps prevent problems. You also have to realize that nothing lasts forever and lemons do exists. These things happen and cannot be controlled. Do you go yelling at the fridge or car manufacture when it dies the second the warranty is up? No. We actually joke that the thing knows and wants to be sadistic and was waiting for the perfect time to annoy you. These mixers are like everything else. You have to take care of it and, outside of a true lemon issue, that's about all you can do. Assuming I get at least 3 to 5 years out of this mixer, I'm happy. The reason the years are so low is everyone is telling me I won't be able to bake enough for the farmer's market once people starting eating. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are right. If they are, I figure that I could cram decades of use into far less time. Not to mention I would have an excuse to upgrade my large kitchen appliances. haha. If only I am so lucky. To conclude, KitchenAid is a great brand and, so long as you don't abuse the machine, have it registered from the day you bring it home and be civil when there is a issue, they have some of the best customer service out there. Sorry for the long post, but I get really annoyed when I read reviews that are obviously from people who are not thinking, being impatient, abusing the machine, didn't follow the instruction manual or just have unbelievable standards that nothing can live up to. Yes, some of the reviews sound like genuine problems not caused by the owner and, for those who were civil with the manufacture, it sounds like they got good service. One last thing, when your warranty is up, pretty much every company is going to charge just to tell you what is wrong. When you take you car to the shop to find out what that noise is and they hook it up to the machine and have an answer in 30 minutes, that costs $100 on average. A mixer is smaller so $50ish sounds reasonable for shipping and an answer to find out what is wrong. And the reason these mixers have a one year warranty, KitchenAid knows the use some of these mixers get and that a lot of people don't pay attention to what they are doing. So I can't blame Kitchen Aid for limit their window of being on the hook. So, enjoy your new mixer is you go with a KitchenAid, no matter the model. Just take a deep breathe and learn how to use it. It's worth it. Wish me luck with my farmer's market venture and that my new mixer pays for it self fast. I already love it. Now just to make it work!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I got this mixer in February as a birthday gift to myself; best present ever. The color is gorgeous (I got the espresso) and it makes baking a dream. Bread dough is done do quick & easy now. Getting the work bowl to seat can be tricky but once you figure it out its a snap. I think it was worth every penny. I look forward to getting dome of the attachments soon.
