Bought one of these and the instant I nailed it to the wall it caught fire. I wouldn't recomend one to anyone! I was using 10 penny nails and figured I'd sink one through each corner but obviously this Chinese made television wasn't made for something that simple. If it werent' for the water in the fishtank in the living room, I'm not sure what would have happened. And who is going to pay for my goldfish now all boiled and electricuted! This is what I get for shopping at sears!

This is the best television I could have asked for. The price was unbelievable for the quality of plasma TV. My in-laws purchased a 50" Pioneer plasma TV for $5000, and believe the picture quality is just as good as their high end plasma. It has a fantastic HD tuner because I now pick up all the HD channels with signals up to 45 miles away without paying the cable company anything extra. (See how many local HD channels you can get before paying extra money for HD channels from the cable company). If you are a bargain hunter like I am, you can't find a better deal than this one!

The meaning of 2009 technology is important for plasma. This year several technology improvements were implemented that fixed the four failings of previous plasma technology listed below.

> Overall Image Burn-in susseptability is reduced and a scrubber utility is provided to clear image ghosts if your kids forget to turn a video game off and the same picture displays on the screen for hours at a time.

> Limitted life span has been fixed. 2009 models have a 100,000 hour panel life.

> High power consumption. 2009 models are now Energy Star compliant. I will admit that this feature has a direct effect on the brightness of the picture. However, there is a button on the remote that allows selection of Off,  Intelligent Sensor, Min, Med and Max. Energy saving equates to a dimmer picture. Inteligent sensor adjusts brightness based on the ambient light of your room.

> Blacks aren't black enough and display as gray. For 2009 this set has very good blacks with a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Custom settings allow tweeking of contrast and black colors.

There is no end of picture adjustments with 6-basic and 30-expert. I dialed in the picture to my liking better than the canned settings. Customized settings are saved as Expert1 or Expert2. I would advise making picture adjustments during a quality 1080i broadcast such as Letterman, Leno or an NFL game where the background and colors are the same for a long period of time. I don't have blueray yet.

For the folks out there not menu savy or not wanting to become an expert LG provides several predefined video settings; Standard, Vivid, Sport, Game and THX. Each has its own accentuation of color, contrast and brightness. THX is a new video standard implemented on blueray movies. In effect when used when playing a THX certified blueray movie the picture (and sound) will display as intended by the makers of the movie.

Sound is pretty good for a flat panel and should satisfy those without a home theater system. There are several selectable predefined sound settings that are customizable as well. There is an interesting feature called Clear Voice that when selected boosts the human voice sound range. Good for Fox and CNN.

The remote plain jane with no light but is slim and I must say is easy to use. It has several quick menu buttons to switch between  input, video/sound and power settings  that would normally be burried somewhere in the main menu.

It does have a solid pane of glass across the front so reflection could be an issue for some, but not for me.

You can spend $1,000 more and get a bettery picture....but not me.

Bottom line...this is a pretty nice TV for not much money.... :)

This TV looks great in our basement.  The single piece of glass across the front looks cool, though it made me nervous to pick it up and attach it to the wall when some of the weight was on the glass.  The speakers are hidden and sound great to me.  As with other plasmas, you can see image burn-in for a few moments after you turn off the TV.  Hopefully that won't be a problem long-term.

I used the USB port to display pictures from a thumb drive.  One odd thing is that the TV seems to randomly scramble the pictures.  I had them all in chronological order and gave them filenames (YC001.jpg to YC097.jpg) that would cause them to sort properly, but on the TV they were in scrambled order (YC015.jpg, YC002.jpg, YC023.jpg... no apparent logic to the ordering), and that's how they displayed in the slide show as well.  So it was disappointing not to be able to watch pictures in the intended order.  The quality of the photos on the screen wasn't nearly as good as on my computer monitor, but I haven't tried many other TVs, so I can't say how that compares with others.  It was certainly better than the 480i NTSC display of pictures I've had to use on other TVs that didn't have a USB port.

I got a good deal on this, too (on sale for $956 - 10% rebate - $100 LG gas card = $756 + tax = $816).

Overall I have been very pleased with the picture and audio, and it looks cool, too.
