At $249.00, you definitely get more than you pay for.

Aluminum frame, front and rear disc brakes, 29 inch alloy wheels with quick-release levers, SRAM twist gear shifting, Shimano derailleur, quick release saddle shaft; this is a lot of bike for the price. Great gearing makes it an easy ride. I've ridden it on all kinds of terrain and it handles the challenges. Only one gripe, the Element Racing Shocks on the front do not operate smoothly. They have a stiff, jerky motion when you hit a bump and they sometimes stick a little before 'popping' back up. I've checked other models of Mongoose bikes on shop floors and they act the same way. I don't see any way to make adjustments. Cleaning and applying a light lube makes no difference. Still, I recommend this bike. Good for riders graduating from the basic, low cost bike but not ready for the $1000 plus category. Sure you can buy a more expensive bike off the rack, but I'm OK buying this at a low price and spending the money I saved on custom upgrades, starting with the front forks/shocks. Then maybe a softer gel saddle, some softer grips (I'm getting soft in my old age). Also, nice value, service and price from Sears, thanks.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL

I have gone on 3 bike rides, and already have experienced 2 things break on this boke. The pedal fell off after losing half of the trad inside the connection. I have become very creative just to get the pedal to stay on. Then, the crank protector that stop the chain from falling off broke. Now I can't change gears on the larger crank. I understand $300 doesn't buy an expensive bike, but this is ridiculous. I also bought my wife a Mongoose, and am waiting to see if that one falls apart, too. I don't know if I got a lemon, but be advised, DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE!

Front rim bent on first trail ride

This is my 3rd Mongoose bike in 3 weeks, all 3 had issues. I got this bike on a Feb 1, 2013 (Friday), assembled it (pretty easy), and rode it on Feb 2, 2014 (Saturday). I was riding it down nature trails (amateur level). About an hour into the ride, while riding, I notice that my front tire is wobbling. I kept riding and on the next break I stopped to assess the front tire, it got bent. The other complain I have was that while assembling the bike, I had to adjust the handle bars & bike seat twice and the hex bolts became weakened (grinded) from me tightening the bolts (getting on the bike to confirm the correct angle/height/etc) and adjusting it to my preferred level ( I only made two adjustments). The manufacturer did a poor job placing the stickers on the bike. With the exception of the issues I mentioned above, the bike rode and shifted gears smoothly. I also liked that this was pretty light (in weight) compared to the first two mongoose bikes I bought previously.

Overall
A lot of bike for the money!

I purchased this bike after looking at several Trek's. This bike has many of the features (29 inch wheels, front and back disc brakes, aluminum frame, etc) that an entry level Trek has, but for half the price. I bought the bike knowing that I could return it if I was unhappy, and needless to say I'm still riding it nearly a year later. I mostly ride it on paved surfaces, but on several occasions I have taken it to the trails and had no trouble keeping up with my Trek favoring friends. The shocks work well and the SRAM gears are easy to shift - making any situation easy to handle. So, you can go broke like my friends buying their Trek's, or you can be the smart money and get yourself this Mongoose Impasse. It's a lot of bike for the money!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Mongoose Impasse 29 Delivers!

The Mongoose Impasse 29 rides quietly, shifts and brakes smoothly. I am impressed with the overall size of the bike and the big 29 inch tires give my legs a killer workout. With my Mongoose Impasse 29, I have confidence I can ride over most terrain conditions. Great bike for a great price.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
