    mine are fine! March 06, 2008

    i have two of these and although they had a slight odor when i bought them.... i unrolled each one, before using it... placed it outside in the sun for the day..... brought it into the workout work and no problems (the 2nd one did seem to smell a little stronger than the first one... but again... no problems once i had it outside, unrolled in the sun for the day!)

    Smell is horrible, worse than you can imagine. January 04, 2011

    I spent a lot of time reading reviews and trying out ellipticals before I purchased one but did not even think about reading the reviews about mats to go underneath them.  I returned the mat today because of the horrible chemical smell.  The smell did not fade after a week.  My nose and throat burned, my eyes watered, I got a headache and upset stomach all from the smell.  I tried leaving it out in the garage a few days but it just made the garage smell.  I'm sure this has to be a health hazard.  I don't know how this thing can still be on the market.

    The smell is like a skunk. We are worried about the long term effects of the off gassing. This can be bad for you health.

    Very Good mat, the size of this mat, particularly the length was perfect for my Proform 397 treadmill that I purchased at the same time. When I rolled out the mat it did not curl, and laid flat on the floor very easily. I have even checked under it after a couple of weeks of use, and see no indents in my wood flooring.

    I bought this mat to go under my Sole treadmill instead of Sole's mat since this one was clear and I thought it would look nicer than Sole's gray mat.  Well, I have been airing out my new mat for a week in my garage, and it still smells horribly.  I have never smelled anything like this from any other piece of vinyl/synthetic material.  As someone who suffers from autoimmune disorders, I can only imagine what these off-gases could do to my health.  I spoke to Sears on the phone, and they immediately said I can bring it back.  I guess I'll have to try the gray Sole mat.

    This Nordic Track floor mat is a tough one to rate.  Unfortunately, I bought this mat at a Sears store (on sale for $29.99) before reading the reviews at this site.  I am truly amazed and disappointed that Sears/Nordic Track would sell a product that produces such a noxious odor as this one does.  I did follow one reviewers suggestion of putting it out in the sunshine for a day, and that seems to have helped a lot.  The smell is definitely less.

    If I were rating the product including the smell, I would have given it one star. Assuming (always a bad thing to do :) that the odor will disappear, I believe the product would then rate 4 or 5 stars.  It weighs in at 10+ lbs., heavier than any of the other mats that I looked at, and I think it will hold up well.  The semi-transparent color of the mat also seems to be more aesthetically pleasing than the all black mats.  Keeping my fingers crossed :)
