Samsung  18.0 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator  ENERGY STAR®

Bought this for its size, appearance, Consumer Reports rating, and user reviews, in July 2011. Unfortunately we didn't know that many (all?) Samsung refrigerators have the same design flaw that causes the cooling coils in the refrigerator to ice up. In short, the defrost heating element only gets the sides and bottom of the coil assembly, so ice can build up around the fan that's at the top. This eventually causes loud noise and the inability to cool. There's actually a class-action lawsuit over the issue, although as far as I can tell this model isn't included for now, even though it has the same problem described in the lawsuit.

I loved the look of this refrigerator and really bought it because it is counter depth and looks good in my small kitchen. It is the loudest refrig I have ever had. The coldness is good but for it to leak is really disappointing. Now I can hardly wait to see what the Sears service is like for a brand like this.

I like everything about this refrigerator freezer except that it's made in China and the shelf spacing must have been designed by some foreigner that had no clue what Americans store in a refrigerator. For example a 1 gallon milk jug will not fit freely on ANY shelf no matter how you space them. We keep gallon jugs in the side doors and on the bottom shelf but you must lift the second shelf up about 1/4 inch off it's mounting ledges to get them in and out. Don't even think about trying to keep 2 liter bottles inside unless you lay them down. This fridge will force you to consider container sizes while shopping at the grocery store. Other than that it's quiet, looks great and the doors fit and slide freely. Too bad the product designer blew it on the shelf spacing. FYI We paid $999.00 for this unit on 11/24/12.

I have a small galley style kitchen (50s) and this was the biggest fridge we could fit into the existing space and it fits perfectly. After I had ordered it I discovered that the Sears website, the Samsung website, and the Samsung manual for the fridge (downloaded at the Samsung website) all had a little different dimensions for this model fridge. Luckily it all worked out fine. Some reviewers are complaining about the handles coming off, when mine were installed they left the plastic protection on, I removed them and tightened them down and have never had one come off. I've owned this fridge for about six months, the fridge temperature is spot on and the freezer freezes extremely well indeed. You can fit a half sheet pan in the fridge and freezer if you need to. There's only two of us here but we can fit a ton of frozen food and veg. The fridge shelving is limited for tall items and you'll be laying bottles down on there side once in a while. One minor problem and otherwise perfect.

We own 2 small houses and this is the only refrigerator I could find to fit in either. It is counter depth which makes a big difference in a small kitchen. Although it is only 18 cu ft. it holds a lot of food for 2 people. I agree it doesn't hold very many tall items but we have a small second refrigerator in the garage for sodas and extra milk. The vegetable and fruit bins are large. The meat holder is small but I just put the meat along side on the shelf. It is very good looking and I prefer the French door refrigerator to the side by side I had before. The freezer holds a lot of food. I love this refrigerator.

The frig works very well so far since April. It came out of the box in good condition and looks good. The meat drawer, I thought, could have been placed to one side. That way you would have to open only one door. But, to my amazement, my wife just told me that it slides to either side. OMG! Someone has some brains. The frig just fits my 1970's old style cubby hole.

I wasn't sure about the fridge. It's now November 1, 2012, got it in March 2012 It holds a Lot More than I thought. It's quiet, keeps temp exact, and I really like it. My only gripe is the butter holder is way too small. I have a tiny container and it still gets stuck. I deal with it. More important things in life than that. I do recommend this. I am not compensated in any manner.

I have only had the refrigerator for a week but the delivery was on time, quickly installed. It cooled quickly and so far I have no complaints. For a single person or a small family this is more than enough space. In fact I am not sure I will ever fill the freezer! it is beautiful and I am pleased to have the counter depth so it does not extend too far into my condo kitchen. Kudos to Samsung!
