Set the Mood with Festive Halloween Table Linens

When it comes to parties, the right table setting can make all the difference. The table is the centerpiece of your occasion and will set the tone for all the merriment that follows. Of course, it can be hard to find the right Halloween table linens, since many of them border on the bright and loud. What you want is an overall effect that sets a mood, but doesn't scream Halloween to every passerby.

Start with a basic tablecloth and table runner. You don't need any specialty Halloween decorations plastered on these linens since they will be buried under serving pieces and table settings. What you do need are sturdy linens in solid colors or simple patterns (such as stripes) that will form the foundation for your table. Though you may be tempted by a table linen made from specialty fibers, stick to one that is washable. Even your neatest guests will experience a spill from time to time, and you don't want you linens to be ruined after only one use.

After you have set down the basic linens, you will start to decorate your table, by adding fall candles, centerpieces and tableware. The place settings can be as bright or as simple as you like, as long as the colors coordinate with your linens. Again, save the kitschy details for your smaller table linens or decorative pieces; even a festively patterned dinner plate can bee too much if paired with several other busy patterns. However, if your entire table is very simplistic, you may be able to get away with one or two brightly patterned items. Make sure to balance them out with your other table linens so that nothing becomes to overpowering.

The final table linens for your Halloween tablescape are going to be your placemats and napkins. This is where you can have a little fun, since the placemats won't take up too much attention, but fall much higher in the order of layering than your tablecloth. Choose placemats that match the formality of the event; informal events call for fun placemats featuring spooky characters, while more formal events require clean lines and ordered colors. Napkin rings can be used to add a little glamour or fun; add a small skull token to the outside of each ring for fun spooks, or string on some beads in festive Halloween colors.

If you really want to think outside the box, festoon your chairs in fancy chair covers. Gauzy fabrics turn your chairs into ghosts or ghoulish frights and can change the ambience of the entire room. Whether you are going all out or you simply want to add a few accents to the dinner table, Sears can help. We have a wide variety of table linens and supplies for any holiday occasion, so that you can make your selections with ease and get back to the party planning fun!
