I, as many were skeptical about buying this on line; however, I am very happy with it. The machine is so easy to use. I have Emphysema, and I am on oxygen 24/7. I cannot walk a full block, but because this machine is adjustable (tension), I can now do up to 2 miles a day, which the Dr. says is excellent for me and my condition. It gets my heart rate up a bit, and doesn't leave me breathless as when I walked. the set up was a snap, only about 45 minutes to one hr.

You get what you pay for.
If you want to increase you heart rate, the assembly of this bike ought to do it. The bubble packed parts did not include the correct nuts for the bolts. The seat bar and one side of the seat bracket did not have the holes drilled to accept the necessary bolts, I had to drill these holes myself. The left pedal broke as I installed the plastic foot strap. One of the holes in the seat bottom would not line up for the necessary bolts. I would have returned it to the store, but that's a ninety mile drive. In short, you get what you pay for, and that's not much, in this case. Find a different bike/brand.

Recumbent exercise bike

We originally bought this bike for my husband who is much taller than I am. He hasn't been using it lately because of other helth issues, so I reset it to fit me. I am 4'11" and he is 6' tall. That is one feature that I like. I one feature that I don't really need is the recumbent feature.

Great bike for light to moderate use

I bought this bike for my wife for her birthday because she wanted it to work on getting in shape. Everything about it works fine, it is nothing fancy, does not have all of the bells and whistles, for which you would pay much more, so it is perfect for her. Gets her huffing and puffing and breaking a sweat every time she uses it, which is exactly what she wanted. We used to pay for 2 gym memberships, which cost us 720$ per year, and all we really used were the bikes so this saved us a ton of money.

Comfortable Exercise Bike

My husband and I are both really happy with this recumbent bike. The seat with back support is so much more comfortable than a regular bicycle seat. Since we are different heights, it is easy to adjust the bike to our individual leg lengths. It has a lot of great features with digital readouts and four different workouts.

Weslo Pursuit Recumbant Exercycle

The Weslo Puirsuit Recumbant Exercycle is just what the Dr. ordered!! I needed to lose a few pounds and I'm happy to say that, with my new Weslo exercycle, I've lost 12 lbs!~! I'm more energetic when I start my day with a work-out in my own home. The design is easy on the back, and I recommend this style for ease of use, for all ages!! The price was right too!! It has a timer, odometer, pacer, and heartbeat monitor built into the handlebar area, so you know how far you've been and how far you have to go. Another great purchase from my favorite K-mart Store!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great for home use.

A nice sized bike that doesn't take up a lot of room and it's quiet. The chair is great for anyone with back problems. Plus, it's easy to assemble yourself.

sloppy manufacturing defect

I have owned this for 5 days. It was easy to assemble. The fasteners were bubble packed, seperated and clearly marked. This made it easy to keep track of them.

Once the assembly was completed the display console was tilted to the left about 10 degrees and was due to the mounting plate improperly aligned on the upright when it was welded. Per the instructions in the packet I called weslo and they were all set to send me a new upright until they found I bought it from Sears. they instructed me to call sears first, which I did. A tech was sent out this morning and he confirmed the cause, ordered a new upright and setup another appointment to install it under warranty. So no do it your self fix which is fine by me.

As for the function of the bike. It works well, the display seems accurate. The pulse monitor is hit or miss but for the price I don't care. I have the bike on a rubber equipment mat over carpet. This causes the bike to sink in and makes it hard to move around on the roller front feet. the bigger issue is the seat adjustment. Adjusting the seat for different users is quite a work out, almost equal to riding the bike for 20 minutes. It is very difficult due to the bottom frame piece not sliding very easily in or out. I hope with time this loosens up.

I will update this review in a few months, if I can, on the durability and function of the bike.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Weslo Pursuit is not fancy, but does its job.

I bought this exercise bike in about six months ago at a deep discount. I have used it several times per week since then.

The good:

It does it's primary job. I can consistenly get a good workout using this bike. The resistence levels are good. When I started using this bike I was fairly out of shape and could barely handle level 4 (out of 10). I've worked up exercising at level 9 and am staying there (and considering going backwards) to avoid putting unnecessary stress on my knees. I can easily get my heart rate up by pedaling faster.

While the seat isn't great, I've never found it uncomfortable even in 1 hour+ sessions. I usually sit on the edge of the seat though and don't lean against the seat back.

So, for an inexpensive exercise bike, I am thrilled with this bike. However my needs are fairly simple and there are many reasons this bike may not be suitable for many people..

The Bad:

It is next to impossible to adjust the seating position. The seat is adjusted by sliding the bar that the seat sits on towards the wheel. Unfortuntely, when you sit on the seat, you are effectively putting downward pressure on this bar, which warps it just enough that it is next to impossible to slide at all. I weigh less than 150 pounds, but after sitting on it just once, I could barely move it. In order to get the initial adjustment, each time I changed it I had to wheel the bike up against the wall, lift it to a 45 degree angle and use the full force of my body like a hammer to pry it loose. Once you get it loose, you can adjust it at will.. but don't sit on it again until you're sure you have it where you want it, or you'll have to repeat the process!

It's actually a good thing that it gets jammed because the "knob" that supposedly holds the seat in place is inadequate. The fact that it jams up is the only thing that keeps the seat in place.

Do not buy this bike if more than one person intends to use it (unless you are identical twins)! For me it was a very unpleasant process to adjust but I only had to go through it a few times on the day of assembly until I was happy with the position.

The bike computer is very no frills. The heart rate monitor doesn't appear to work at all--and other than that you get very basic statistics that amount to no more than how fast you are pedaling (in a few different ways) and the length of time the session has been active. I use a separate heart rate monitor, so I wasn't very interested in any of these features to start with.

The batteries I put in the computer lasted about five months, and after they ran out, I haven't bothered to replace them. I am thinking about removing the computer altogether. You can still see a television over the handlebars and over the computer (not so for many recumbent bikes!) but it still gets in the way a tiny bit and I'm personally probably better off without it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

GARBAGE!!!!!

What a piece of garbage this product is. I'm so happy I live less than a mile from a Sears store and used the store pickup option instead of paying a ridiculous amount to have this crap shipped. Don't get me wrong, the bike works alright and I could "feel the burn" in my hips and thighs, but after ten minutes on it my tailbone went numb and started throbbing when I got off of the machine. I thought maybe it was the position I was sitting in so adjusted the seat, but to no avail. I will be returning this to the store first thing tomorrow. It just proves, once again, that you get what you pay for.

Quality bike with a great price

I found this bike to be easy to set up but I did not use the included Hex wrenches. If you have a decent set of tools, these are what I used: 3/8” Hex head sockets (4, 5, 6mm), 3/8” ratchet, 3/8” sockets (10, 13, 16mm), #0 & #2 Phillips screwdrivers, and slip joint pliers.  I had no trouble attaching the seat but I did not tighten down the bolts (#62) for the seat frame nor the seat/back screws (#61) until all the screws (#61) were partially inserted. I also found that the flat washers for the bumpers (#57) could not be used as the screws were too short to gain purchase on the frame.

After assembly, I found that adjusting the seat frame near impossible. Part of the reason are the screws (#66) holding in the frame bushing (#56) with the other reason being the rough surface of the seat frame itself.

The completed bike is very quiet, stable, and easy to use with a wide range of pedal resistance.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Welso Pursuit CT 3.8R recumbant exercise bike

Can anyone tell me if they have a problem reaching the pedals on this bike. Am asking because I am only 4'11" and would like a heads up on this before ordering.

Any vertically challenged people out there like me?  Thanks for any input.

Nice workout for the money.

When I got this bike I didn't think that I could put it together because it was heavy and cumbersome. I decided just to take my time, put on some music and make the best of it. To my surprise it was easy and although the instructions suggested to have a 2nd person help in attaching the top handlebar computer seembly it was a breeze and I got it all put together in less than an hour.

The unit works great and I really sweat after 15 minutes of pedaling.

The only drawback is that the batteries for the computer unit drains very quickly but I prefer to use my own heart rate monitor anyway.

The price was excellent and the unit is very strong and sturdy and not too big.

Get something else.

My wife bought this to replace her older worn out weslo. We could never get all the tension off the bike and then to top it off, after about 5 miles of riding it, the crank bearing went out. Now we have a loud, clunky piece of junk that weslo won't take care off.

Great value and easy to use

I purchased the Weslo 3.8R for my 82 yr old mother to help her exercise after a knee replacement.  She was not able to use an upright model due to the difficulty of getting on the seat.  The 3.8R design allows you to step through for easy seating, and the large adjustable seat provides stability and perfect distance for her legs.  The 3.8R does not have some features available on higher priced models, but for basic exercising it provides great value.  Ordering online was easy, the shipping was fast and it was delivered to my door making for a very pleasant shopping experience.

Went together very easily and works fine for the casual user.

I read all of the reviews before buying and decided it was worth trying.  Everything lined up just fine and it went together quickly.  The blister pack for the screws, washers, etc. made the process even easier.  The seat adjustment method is fair and the pulse meter is hardly accurate but neither of those issues are of major concern.  Overall I think it is a good value for the casual user to have available for the days you can't get to the gym or the weather makes riding a bike outdoors impractical.  Since my girlfriend is going through rehab after knee surgery and will be doing the other knee in several months, this was the ideal product for home use.  Definately recommended.

don't waste your money

I ignored the negative reviews and bought this cycle anyway. What a mistake. Two of the holes under the seat would not line up and two of the holes on the main pole also would not line up. All four had to be redrilled. I don't like the fact that you don't feel like you are sitting correctlywhen you sit on this thing. Everything we've tried in adjustments don't make it feel right. We consider it a total waste of money.

nice, quiet & efficient

Aside from the fact that my husband had to take it apart again after it was assembled to fix the tension cable, I really like it. It's very quiet and effective. I've had it a little over a week and my husband and I use it every day. It's comfortable and once he fixed the tension issue so that the tension dial actually worked it gives a wide range of different pedal resistances. Adjusting the seat for different height people is thankfully not an issue for us because my husband and I are roughly the same height and adjusting it is hard to do. Right now the only fault I have with it is that the LCD screen is pointing a little too upward so it's a little hard for me to see.

Great Value

I purchased this after looking at some of the Proform bike reviews - I was concerned about it being quiet and I'm pleasantly surprised - it is extremely quite. good value for the money although per the other review I did not get the sale price of $159 (would have been nice). It is difficult to adjust for different people (length) but since I'm the only one using it it's not an issue. Overall, I think it's a great product.

Seat issues but ok bike

I just purchased this 2/28/09 and set it up same day. This product has a few issues: The seat is really uncomfortable if planning on using it for 20 min, you may need to buy a pad or foam before using. Did not care much for the Hard Seat that makes it uncomfortable when exercising, almost to the point where one wants to stop their exercise. The second is trying to adjust the seat for different users, it is impossible. Set it up per instructed but had to release 2 tiny screws to allow the center post to slide in and out for adjusting the seat so that others could use bike. Overall the product is good at the sale price $159, it's sturdy and I really like the center console that displays the time and speed, so overall I will have to rate this a 3.

exer bike

I was a bit skeptical ordering a bike like this on line not seeing it in person. I could not have been more wrong. To me a screw driver is a drink and the assembly of this was very simple. It is fun to use and I love that it documents for a brief moment how I did on that ride. The only negative for me is that I am 6'4" and my knees sometimes hit the handle bar. I would suggest if you are my height or taller not to order this. Product works great and I use it everyday.
