Plastic Sandwich Wrenches

To their credit, these are some of the last Craftsman wrenches made in the USA. The outer plates are made of steel, the inner plate that holds the ratchet mechanism pin and spring is Plastic. It is just my opinion, but the only plastic tool should be the handle of a screwdriver or an automotive interior trim removal tool. I returned these plastic-sandwich wrenches and Sears was great about taking them back. Purchased Proto made in USA wrenches (at three times the price) to replace them and Protos are now made with plastic centers also! So I guess the lesson learned is, if you don't mind plastic center wrenches, these are as adequate as the more expensive brands--but they aren't that great. I recommend actually looking at these in the store before ordering.

GREAT Wrench Set

I recently had to replace the front lamp (headlight) on my car, in front of the cars battery. These wrenches fit all the bolts I had to remove to get the battery out and get to the headlight. They racheted well in "tight" spaces where there is limited wiggle room. Their strong and don't slip off the nut, even if the nut is "frozen" in place (I used a little WD40 to get these off). Overall, a well made and reliable set of wrenches!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Just right

I love using these wrenches. There are times when a bolt is in a tight spot and normal wrenches have to be removed and rotated countless times to turn the bolt. These wrenches eliminate all that because they work like a socket wrench does and simple back and forth motion is all it takes to get the job done. These wrenches are the first ones I reach for when I need to get a job done.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I was impressed with the ease of use.

I bought these for my son to add to his tool set and was very impressed with how the handle was twisted to make it easier to maneuver or switch around when using. Of course, as with any craftsman tool, if it ever breaks they will replace it free. The lifetime warranty just can't be beat.!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good set

Have had this set for some time now. Still come in handy. Angle lets you turn wrench without rubbing your hand on working surface. Switch on side allows you to change from tighten to loosen without turning wrench over. Will last a long time if you treat them right. (Don't use them as a hammer)

I would recommend this product to a friend.

six of one, half a dozen of the other

I'm not a huge fan of double box end wrenches, because I like each tool to be one size.  I don't appreciate the extra effort and time it takes to look at both ends of a tool to see if it's the right size.  Having said that, I caught these on sale, and decided to take a chance on them.

The ratchets on these wrenches are reversible, and in my experience, stronger than the ratchets on the ratcheting combination wrenches.  (The tradeoff is that the ratchet is coarser too, and requires more room to swing in.)  I don't have any measurements to back this up, but my brother managed to break one of my full polish reversible ratcheting wrenches, while none of these have broken on me.  That's too small a sample group for any reliability, but take that for what it's worth.  The reversing feature is different from Craftsman's other reversible ratcheting designs, but it's really no big deal to get used to them.  (The switch is on the handle instead of the box end.)

The offset is 25 degrees which is a bit more than Craftsman's standard 15 degrees.  Again, it's not something that takes too long to get used to, but it never quite feels right either.  The extra offset can be helpful if you have large hands as it will keep your knuckles clear more, but it's a disadvantage if you're working in close quarters.

With five sizes, this set reaches a bit smaller and a bit larger than the other ratcheting wrench sets.  If you need 1/4" or 7/8", this is the set for you.  The other ratcheting wrench sets don't even have these two sizes.

Ultimately, I decided that I prefer the standard offset, other switch, and higher polish of the other reversible ratcheting combination wrenches, and bought them instead.  I gave the three middle wrenches of this set to my dad, but kept the smallest and largest wrenches to complement my new set.

But don't let me put you off from getting these.  These are a great set at a great price as long as you don't mind double box end wrenches.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Ok for around the house

I am a Craftsman devotee and this will be the first time I write a review about a Craftsman product I don't like.

I bought these because I needed a set of ratchet wrenches and wish I had spent a little more on either the flex head or sealed head combination set.

I am ASE Certified so I use my tools everyday. The wrenches require too much movement for what I like to get it to grab the next tooth. Also I don't like that without the flex head the opposing end can get in the way. They are alright if you have a large open area to move it in but if it is kind of tight I don't bother with them.

I have found them to work best for me when I am removing an oil plug.

Craftsman 5pc Offset SAE RachetgWrench Set...Wonderful Tools!

These offset ratcheting SAE wrenches are very practical and useful all around the shop and yard. I really enjoy working with the angled design. It helps to keep fingers from pinch points and provides a wider arc of swing when in tight spaces. The simple reverse click pins are easy to actuate with the thumb or index fingers and provide quick reversals of movement.

Although the ratcheting mechanism is exposed to the elements, I find it to be strong and easy to provide maintenance. These don't appear to give you high torquing ability, but I've performed auto and tractor work with ease, busting loose stubborn nuts and bolts with ease!

The fit and finish is great and easy to keep clean. In all, I've been very pleased with the features and solid performance of this offset ratchet wrench set!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Set for many tasks!

Great set of tools, no tool box should be without them. Perfect for a variety of applications, from household jobs (like putting together furniture) to auto repair. Good price and an unbeatable Craftsman Guarantee! Bought a set for my husband for Christmas, then had to get my son one too (as he kept borrowing them). Great gift for anyone, especially for a young person just starting out as they can be used for lots of things.

The Craftsman 5 pc SAE Offset Ratcheting Wrench Set is great

I added these wrenches to my Craftsman roll-away tool set in my workshop.  I used them when I removed a trans-axle from a garden tractor and they helped to prevent knuckle busters because they helped to keep my hands away from the wall of the frame.  They have to be one of the best values in the Sears tool department.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
