Craftsman 1/4 in. Drive Quick Release Teardrop Ratchet

Is this not the benchmark for all ratchets of this type? For many years a ratchet such as this has graced my tool box until it was borrowed...never to be seen again.

I recently bought the replacement and, while a little shocked over the price, I was truly happy to see that the quality was still there if not a tad better than before.

You cannot go wrong with this ratchet as a stand alone or in a set!

Craftsman Hand tools--Now made in China??
I have been purchasing Craftsman tools for 30 plus years because they are proudly made in the USA and carry a lifetime warranty. You can imagine my disapointment when I opened my newest ratchet and it no longer says Forged in the USA. In fact, it doesn't even say where it is made on the tool itself. The words Made in China are very small and on the back of the cardboard package. Sears must be embarrassed that they are outsourcing so they are not making it obvious where it is made. I can no longer say I am proud to use Craftsman tools that are Made in the USA.

Small But Strong

This 1/4? drive ratchet with quick-release button is small but very tough. It has great balance and feels good in your hand. I would - and already have - recommend this to a friend.

great little ratchet

A great quality ratchet for the price... Good length, not too short or too long and it has good weight-balace, as well...Not as fine-toothed as some of my other 1/4" drive ratchets, but for the price it's still a good ratchet....

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Awesome!

Perfect just like any other Craftsman tool! I love the fact of the lifetime warranties. If it breaks just take it right down to the store, no questions asked.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good price on sale

Useful as a quick stocking stuffer for minor around the house use. Packaging couuld be more efficient for storage, lots of waste space and material to make it look bigger. Useul for small jobs.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great addition to my set of Craftsman tools

I have a complete set of 3/8" drive ratchets, sockets (short & long) and extension bars. Sometimes these tools are not the right tool for the job because of a tight fit or close/small environment in which to work. The 1/4" line of ratchets, extension bars, long sockets and short sockets make for an ideal tool for those situations where the working room is small and a small wrench just won't work.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This is now made in China.

The look and feel of the ratchet is the same. However, I cannot accept the fact that this is now made in China. I will be returning this item as soon as I have the opportunity to. I have purchased and used mainly craftsman tools for somewhere in the area of 15 years. The three main reasons being that 1. they where USA made and 2. they have a lifetime warranty 3. I could afford them. This shift to outsourcing the production to China is unacceptable. I refuse to buy and keep any Craftsman tool that says "Made in China" on the package. Craftsman is sacrificing customer loyalty for the bottom line. If they where loosing profit or wanted to increase the profit margin they should have raised the price of the tools, not sacrificed their 50+ years of American manufacturing heritage.

Great Product

Very solid product and we'll built. Handle is not too long or too short, so for light work it comes in handy but if you are looking to use it heavy job then consider something with longer hand. Worth the money for this little guy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good ratchet

Haven't had any problems with this ratchet, I use it all the time at the wrecking yard to dismantle small fasteners inside doors, in the engine compartment and under the dash. Works fine and is one of my reliable tools.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

very poor construction

I use this for home use and it is a very poor product. It is almost like the gears inside are/were stripped from the time i got it. Looking at replacing with snap-on as I'm tired of having the skin removed from my knuckles. it skips and free spins about every other turn.

This rachet is a piece of crap

This is the worst rachet I have ever owned.  It never lasts more than a few months (with only occasional use) before it starts to slip.  I would just as soon use a Taiwanese rachet as this one.  It is definitely NOT dependable.  Save your time and money.  If this is your only choice, use a cresent wrench instead.  It can't be any worse!

1/4 in. Drive Quick Release Teardrop Ratchet- Craftsman -44807

A while back I bought a new one made in the USA, this week the toggle switch part broke, so I returned it and was given one made in China. Back when I bought the ratchet the big selling point was the Made in USA part just as much as the guarantee, I could have gotten a similar guarantee from ********** and spent a lot less if I wanted to buy junk from China. A replacement with a inferior tool made off shore is not a full warranty, plain and simple.

A quality rachet ! A quality warranty !

Let me start by saying , it is made similiar to the ones from 40 years ago. I have V ratchets from the 70's. If you take that one apart and take this new one apart. They are similiar. A center gear with a Pawl that flips back and forth to stop gear from rotating. Granted, the cover is thicker, however concept is the same. The abs switch moves the pawl back and forth. Do not kill the switch when moving it, you should hear a click. Remember, each size ratchet has a purpose. I own the 1/4, 3/8. 1/2. I also own flexible breaker bars in same sizes. The tool should fit the job. I have seen guys putting helper bars on wrenches and wrecking them or using the wrong size on a higher torque job. Also if you clean and re-grease once every couple years, they will last a life time. If all else fails, Sears have a GREAT return policy. You do not have to wait for the truck to show up to find out they are out of stock. These are made similiar to high end if you took them apart. A center gear with a pawl attached to a switch. I own a S_K and it has a center pawl which engages teeth around the parimeter of circle. Had to have new pawl, company sent out new center pawl however what about teeth in parimeter of cirlce ( they were worn ). With this design, everything gets replaced when rebuilding. With the price of these , you can have 2 or 3 backups and still pay less. If sears moniters these reviews. Please make CRAFTSMAN in the USA. I have one that is made in China and the grinding of handle is bad in comparison.to USA version. Thanks for Listening.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not the best for repeated use

I tried using this ratchet as a daily use tool on aircraft engines which is what I work on, but I found out that the internal mechanism tends to fail. After having to take the ratchet in to get repaired four times I decided that I had to upgrade to a Snap on ratchet. However, I still have my Craftsman 1/4 in ratchet and use it occasionally around my house and on my vehicles. It works great when you do not have to use it all the time, but like I said if you have to use it constantly like my work requires it just does not hold up. Another downside is the low tooth count on the ratchet, I wish that it was around 78 or 80 like my Snap on, but it feels more like a 48. If you are going to be using a ratchet constantly then I suggest that you spend the extra money and buy a Snap on ratchet, they are warranteed for life just like the Craftsman ratchet is. If you are just going to be doing small jobs around the house and garage then this ratchet will do just fine. I have had my ratchet for over six years now and it is on it's fourth set of internal mechanisms.
