If You Don't Has a Set - You Would Not Understand

Another great Craftsman branded tool that is "Temporarily Unavailable" Viewed by some as a gimmick tool, known not to be a true statement by those of us that have a set. Their not a replacement for Vise Grips they serve to supplement your pliers selection. The self adjusting feature and the ability to adjust the force of the grip are two very distinct advantages. In the event you missed out on these pliers fear not, A search with the term "E-Z Lock Professional Locking Pliers" might just get you a set. These pliers are another item that should be considered for reintroduction.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

automatic self sizing locking pilers

wow.... craftsman all your tools i think are very awsome except this tools this is the new version of the craftsman vise grip if it's not broke why fix it? The craftsman old vise grips were great. I understand wanting to improve a tool but this was not an improvement. I love craftsman because they stand behind there tools and will replace damaged tools. You can't take this one back though cause it sucks to begin with...

After Reading the Other Reviews, I Had to Chime In

I make it a habit of reading all the reviews that haved been previously written about a product before I weigh in on the subject. this isn't to sway my opinion, I have no problem speaking my on mind, but rather to see how other view the product in hopes of determining if they truly have used it and honestly reviewed. You might be surprized at how many folks review products on this site that totally miss the point of the tool. Does this mean that they don't understand the intent of the tool or are they simply writting reviews. This is most often demonstrated when you find several reviews issued by CRAFTSMAN-FEED. These reviews are an assortment of different people that have been imported from the main Sears site. I find many of their reviews misguided.

Here is my opinion of these Craftsman Automatic Locking Pliers. When they were first introduced they were termed Craftsman AutoLock. The design really hasn't changed by by calling them a more generic name I feel that Craftsman has lost the focus of exactly what makes this tool unique. These ARE NOT to be compared with Vice-Grips as so many other have done. The unique feature of this tool is it'a ability to SELF-ADJUST and SELF LOCK on virtual any size fastener.

FixNMowers got it right in his review. It is obvious that he has used and understand these pliers.

A traditional set of Locking Pliers or Vice Grips have an adjustment screw that is located by the handle end of the tool. By turning this screw you can rough size the jaw opening of the pliers. Turn the screw too far and the Jaws will not close on the fastener. Don't turn the screw far enough and the pliers will lock, but the fit of the jaws will be too loose to adaquately torgue the fastener. It really comes down to multiple attempts of trial and error.

The adjustment of these AutoLock (sorry, couldn't help myself) is automatically made as the jaws are closed. They continue to reduce in opening sixe until the reach an obstruction which is created by contact with the fastener. Then they securely lock into place.

Vice Grips - No they are Not! Monkey Wrench - Np they are Not! Great tool - Yes they are!

Better than a Monkey Wrench

I have never been a big fan of monkey wrenches or vise grips because I always end up hurting myself or breaking something I wasn't suppose to .  But sometimes the use of them are just warranted.  Thats where this wrench has really been really helpful.  The self adjusting feature is a great positive unlike constant adjusting of the monkey wrecnh.  Mine pair seems to hold tight but they are a little large so you might have fit problems in tight spaces and work different than most tools so you just have to get use to how they work.  Still not a great fan of these devices but this is better than most and very handy when needed.

Good Pliers

Craftsman 9 in. Pliers, Automatic Self Sizing Locking are pretty good pliers overall. They lock to just about any size and you don't have worry about adjusting, then checking if it's tight enough and then readjusting them again and continuing this process until the you get right on most conventional vise grip type pliers. There is a bit of a learning curve when you fist get these type of pliers, but after that, they get a lot easier to operate and use on whatever your project at hand is. If you have do do adjusting, it's usually by trial and error. I have 2-sets of these pliers & use them mostly in my shop while working on small engines and other yard equipment, but have on occassion used them in the house for home repairs. Make sure you keep the pliers clean and lubricated after use, so that it does not start to rust. These are not chrome plated & will rust with moisture if not kept lubed after use. I recommend laying with them & getting use to how they operate before you decided they don't work. The handles have decent grip, but I think they might could be a little more rigid. My only draw back on these pliers is they are bulky when you are in a tight spot & does take some time when you first get them to learn to use them the right way. These pliers have a space in my tool box and they do have advantages over some other simular type pliers, but I do not use them as regular as my slip joint pliers. I would recommend these pliers to you, but take time to learn how to use them.

Easier to use than normal locking pliers.

The Craftsman automatic locking pliers are pretty cool.  You don't have to adjust anything like on standard locking pliers.  And they are also easier to release.  They are somewhat bulky though.  If you are trying to lock onto something in a confined space, these may not fit.  For anything else, they work great.

I love it and think it's a great piece of innovation.

I have these in two sizes. To me, it's a time saver, because I don't have to adjust/readjust like I would with an adjustable or pipe wrench. It's self adjusting capability allows me to click and go.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsmans visegrip/autolock

What I find that these locking pliers have over the Visegrip is they will lock on any size nut or bolt or whatever. Visegrips have to be adjusted for every size piece you are working on. They are the smart locking pliers that are also lite. They are a little thin, maybe Craftsman can make a thicker pair and see how they sell? One last thing. This may be a good thing or bad. it depends on how you see it. There are no cutters built in, but they are a darn good grips or locking pliers. Kudos to Craftsman.

Pliers Sturdy Enough to Replace Monkeywrench

I really appreciate the though that went into the design of these pliers & the ease at which they can be adjusted with minimal effort while working in tight areas like under the sink. I've found them to be both sturdy, & yet not too cumbersome for most tasks that I've used them for.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
