The Craftsman 2 pc Strap Wrench Set is a good value

These are not the same quality I expect with the Craftsman label but they work okay.  I added these to my tool set in my workshop and they fit well in one of the drawers in my tool chest.  The small one is used when I change the oil on small engines with spin-on oil filters.  I haven't tried using it on an 18 HP Onan.  These old garden tractor engines have a blower housing that covers most of the oil filter body.  It might work but I question if the strap might get cut on the blower housing.

cheaply made & poorly designed
Like most of the others that have submitted their reviews, my experience was very disappointing with these strap wrenches. I tried using both of these to remove an oil filter that was mounted vertically which required using the wrenches "upside down." Because the straps are designed to slide down into a channel instead of through an enclosed slot, it was very difficult keeping the straps in the handle when using inverted. Further, the anchor for the strap on the small wrench drops into its anchor point instead of being entirely encased like on the large wrench, so it almost immediately popped out when pressure was applied while inverted. And, finally, the rubber/elastic nature of the straps cause them to slip out of position unless constant pressure is applied.

Does it's job well at home

Good tool for home owner. Will do the job for plumbing or jars in the kitchen, both big and small. I don't know if it would hold up in an industrial application due to the plastic, but for at home it's just find. The rubber strap is good and thick and seams like to won't snap like the cheap dollar store item I had before this one. Recommended for at home use.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good strap wrenches

Seems to do the job, grips oil filters and other odd shaped items pretty easily. The rubber rolls up and coils neatly for storage.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Rubber strap wrench

Great useful tool for many items from oil filter to plumbing nuts. They do not mark up brass nuts like pipe wrenches. Very good purchase.

Works Fine for Occasional Uses

I've owned these wrenches for 15+ years. I use the large (red) one weekly to remove a pool filter (similar size to an oil filter) and it does the job excellently. Good grip - no marring. I've not used the small (blue) one very often, but the strap on that one does have a tendency fall out before you can tighten the wrench on whatever you're trying to grip. Some minor engineering should be done to secure the straps better, I ended up squirting a bit of silicone caulk in the housing and that seems to keep the straps in place. Of course this would not work if you had an application where you needed to thread the strap independently of the handle - but I've not found such a situation.

Great tool for what it is.

This is the only tool I use to take my oil filter off on my large diesel truck.  I have had this for at least 9 years and it has worked like a charm everytime I have used it.

Indepence Day

My son-in-law bought me a set of these 7 years ago, I think they got tired of me calling to come open up or unscrew something. Ever since I got mine it's been like independence day. I've lost the small one somewhere along the line so now buying me a new set and the oldest her own set. Just used mine to take off a shower head. Grannys unite and get you a set and get your independence back also.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

NO LONG DRIVE TO TOWN

My Sons gave me the 2 pc. strap wrench set for fathers day over six years ago it sat in my tool box and never used it. This past weekend my son came over to change my oil in my truck. To my luck I couldn't find my oil wrench. I live 25 miles from the nearest store. Well my son ask me to find the strap wrench that him & his brother gave me for fathers day. Well it worked great to remove the oil filter in my truck if you ever changed a oil filter in a new cars or trucks there just no room to play with. I'll give the strap wrench all 5 stars, working great and not have to drive 50 miles round trip to buy a oil wrench. I Know now there is alot more uses for the strap wreach. Well its not at the bottom of my tool box any longer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Cool product

I've had these for about 12 or 13 years now. Maybe the newer ones are not a durable as the ones I have, not sure, they look the same. I use them for removing oil filters, kind of a pain in tight spots but they work good. I have also used the larger one to remove clutch fans on V-6 and V-8 engines. Their not designed for that but most of the time they work for it. The one time it really impressed me, I did not have a special tool to hold the harmonic balancer on a foreign car so I tried the large strap wrench, it did the job of holding while the fastener was removed with an impact. I thought for sure it would break. Did gouge the handle up bad though.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 2 pc. Strap Wrench Set is not for automotive industry

These wrenches of both size isn't strong enough. When I try to turn, the strap gets extended. So it never loosen something tight.

I bought this set for loosening the oil filter of mostly european cars. I didn't want to damage or scratche on the cap of oli filter. Because the strap is made of rubber I believed it worked as I thought. But it doesn't.

This concept and idea is really great. It works in the kichen when you open a jar of sauce or something. But this set is not a tool for auto mechanics.

works with modification

Bought this wrench to remove a pulley from a transverse mounted engine in tight quarters.  In order to make use of it, I wrapped electrical tape around the handle, forming a channel to keep the strap in place.  If not for the fact that this set of two was only $12 I would be dissatisfied.  I'm not a professional mechanic so it met my need but if it's quality you seek, keep shopping.

The Craftsman 2 pc Strap Wrench Set is a blessing to old ladies

There is no jar or bottle that I can not open thanks to the strap wrenches. I suggest that you include this item in your Housewares Department. Do not keep it hidden in the Tools Department. I am 76 years old and my hands just are not as strong as they used to be and I live alone; therefore, it was essential that I find something that would make it possible for me to open all those tightly closed jars and bottles. Your strap wrenches was an answer to an old lady's prayers. I have yet to meet a bottle or a jar that I can ot open. Thank You!

Craftsman 45532

I bought this over 13 years ago to open kitchen jars. Works like a charm. Now, my daughter wants mine and I have to get her another. Though I can see how it might be large and clumsy as a tool for the removal of oil filters, it works great as a jar opener. Never found anything it couldn't open.

OK as long as item is not too tight

I bought a set of these to loosen one inch tubes screwed into a base.  The tubes were polished, smooth metal.  The plastic straps could not get decent purchase on the tubes, the wrenches would slip when pressure was applied.  To be fair to this tool, I finally had to use a machined barrel vise on the tubes with the base tightly secured in a vise to get the tubes to move.  So I tried the large wrench on an oil filter, normal amount of grime and excess oil on it.  The straps still wanted to slip, had to keep constant high pressure on the wrench to get it to work.  I have a very old Craftsman metal oil filter wrench that I will keep using, works every time.

strap wrench not worth it.

Just a cheap strap wrench with the craftsman name.  It cheapens the brand CRAFTSMAN.  You can get the same quality at harbor freight for 1/10 the cost.
