It's lightweight but it's no lightweight!

This utility knife is one of my favorite tool purchases ever. The knife is easy to use, by opening and closing like a jack-knife. The blades change easily in three steps, and it uses standard utility blades, making it easy to keep stocked with fresh blades. The anodized aluminum body makes it very light but strong, and the knurled surface ensures a good grip even when your hands are a bit on the slippery side.

I actually purchased a second one during a rebate special, so it ended up being free. I probably use these knives once a week, for opening packages, or prying small things (not recommended), or cutting apart cardboard for recycling. I have yet to have any problems with either one, and even if I did have a problem, it's backed up by the Craftsman forever guarantee.

The only thing I think could be improved is the holster, which is nylon mesh. A leather holster would be nice as a separate item. If Sears sold the holster from the wood-handled version of this knife separately, it would be a great seller, as I've had many professionals asking if we carried them after the nylon wore out. For the average homeowner, this isn't really an issue, but for people using this knife as part of their job, it makes all the difference.

As a basic maintenance tip, give the hinge a little spray of WD-40 every now and then, and move the joint back and forth to work the WD-40 in, to protect it from dirt and moisture.

If you pick up this knife (which usually goes on sale for around $8), you will not be disappointed.

Standard Utility Knife But Needs Better Blade Lock

The knife I received was actually black, not red, but as far as how it performs it's great. I love the textured finish and belt clip. I did have some trouble replacing the blade however, it's simple enough but when it comes to putting the lock down it didn't want to go down all the way on its own, I had to use a hammer to knock it back into place.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

GREAT TOOL

I'm on my second one, (only because I lost the first one). Great to carry with you, if it gets dull you just replace the blade, and you are ready to go. Well made tool.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman Folding Utility Knife

This Craftsman Folding Utility Knife is an awesome utility knife. It is a very handy tool and beats using a pocket knife for opening cardboard boxes.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Utility knife

Good utility knife. The thumb stud is a bit too sharp but otherwise it opens and locks pretty well. But I really don't care for the way the blade is locked in.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This pretty baby will replace the ten or so other variants that have been cluttering up drawers. Folds up beautifully. Nice grip. Great price.

Good knife most of the time

I have owned 2 of these. My first one I used that thing all the time until I lost it. Fell off my pocket somehow. Never ended up finding it. So had to get another one. The 2nd one was working fine for a while. Til I had to cut up some plastic sheeting and it seems like something loosened in the knife or fell off, maybe something inside. Now when it is open it seems if your holding it and barely touch the release button, it will just start to close it. I think the screw just above the Crafstman logo is loose. Very dangerous if you ask me. It was tough to find a hex head small enough to fit it. But I think I've done what I can. It almost seems like using it a couple times to tighten it has rounded out the opening. Tightening that screw really only made the knife a bit tighter to close, but didn't tighten up the release mechanism too much. Won't be able to do anything now. Hopefully this helps or I can get another from Craftsman. They shouldn't use screws like this that easily round off. Worst case I'll have to buy another one.

Great Utility Knife

Have been using this knife on the job (builder) for about a week and am very pleased with it so far. Will have to see how it stands up to prolonged use, but it seems very well built and sturdy. It opens very easily (although I always use two hands) and the blade changing system seems to work well. This facet of the knife beats another I recently used which allowed the blade to pull out of the knife constantly when cutting with it. Just wish there could be some sort of blade storage incorporated into it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
