I love a canister vacuum and Sears does a great one!!! The suction is very good and the maneuverability is excellent. I know uprights are useful and good but give me a Sears canister any day.
I have used these vacuums for over 10 years at all my Asheville NC vacation rental homes. They work well, reach under sofas, beds, etc. AshevilleVacationHomes.com

I bought this vacuum after owning several different Kenmore vacuums that I adored. I saw that consumer reports had rated this vacuum very well so I felt safe when I purchased it. After I had brought it home and removed it from the box I was shocked when I saw they changed the attachment pieces and hose assembly. If you are accustomed to using the older type vacuums... I recommend not purchasing this vacuum. The attachments are horrible. They really don't do the job like the my old vacuum did. The brush attachment does not resemble the older one at all and has no bristles to dust. The upholstery attachment feels like it doesn't pick up anything as well. I am so upset with this purchase and wish I could have returned it after I used it and was so displeased. My mother purchased one as well and is not happy with it either. Sorry sears, but please bring back the old attachments and hose assembly.
This is my third kenmore vacuum. I love the power and suction and the rug beater works great. Unfortunately, the parts were designed by someone who has never vacuumed. Let's start with the crevice tool....it has holes in it to mount it to the wand...which makes the wand fat, heavy and bulky, but come on...have you ever tried to drink thru a straw with a hole? You can't do it. And, this model could really use a crevice tool as they put HUGE plastic fittings over the ends of the hose that don't fit in corners, under heaters, close to edges on stairs and where the wall, carpet meet. Of course that leads to the next item...the floor wand. It pivots...a little bit too much so that it won't stay in one place...and when it pivots, it closes the hole thru which the suction occurs. It will only suck up dirt if its directly under the floor wand as it seems to touch the floor everywhere leaving no room for things to slide under...so instead of sucking up dirt, you push it into a pile and then have to lift the want to suck it up...but you need to be sure the thing is in the most upright position or the hole is closed. It won't do edges, corners, crevices...oh but wait...there's a crevice tool for that...oh, but it has holes in it.. The carpet beater has power and does a great job and the motor is strong, but it doesn't do edges, corners, close to walls etc so you need the attachments to work. The handle is nice a long, but way too bulky and awkward with the mounted useless crevice tool and the very strangely designed upholstery brushes that are extremely hard to work with as the smooth one is inside the brush but the brush keeps sliding down over it and won't stay locked into place. The wand has all plastic fittings which I believe are designed to make the vacuum lighter, but because they are cheap plastic, they break. Instead of improving on the weak spots of the old design...the plastic fittings that break...they added more. I would love this vacuum if it had real working attachments to a normal sized metal hose end that would actually reach into corners. I am hoping Sears will fix the mistakes and send customers parts that actually would work!
I have always loved Sears canister type vacuum cleaners for a few reasons. The most important for me is.. you need not drag around the heavy motor like an upright and I can easily maneuver behind tables and furniture by slipping the hose off the beater attachment to add another attachment to get under, behind or even above furniture!! Good suction and easy use. Even easier and more effective than previous vacuum's I have owned. I gave up my last SEARS canister vacuum because a friend worked for Kirby and we purchased one. Part of the purchase was, I had to give them my old vacuum. I was not thrilled about that and should have said NO! I could have always used two vacuums. I will NEVER agree to that again!! The Kirby may be good for some uses, but everyday use it is not...it is VERY HEAVY and hard to maneuver. I am so glad I purchased another canister vacuum from SEARS!! I am very happy with my purchase so far.
It has great suction, and handy attachments. I like the light, it helps you see in dark corners. It is easy to go from carpeted floors to tile or wood floors with a touch of a button.
For more than 10 years I had been using my mother's old kenmore canister vac. What a work horse that is. It still works but the hose has broken in several places over the years so it was time to get a new one. I wanted the new one to be a kenmore because of the longevity of the old one. I have waited a couple of years to write this review. I agree with much of the good points brought out by other customers. The suction is good, the choice of speeds and floor levels are also good. The number of attachments you get are very helpful. However, I also agree with several of the negative comments. The handle is large and awkward, it's hard to fit into small spaces. The connector on the wand is plastic. Easily broken if you happen to step on it, as I found out. I also have trouble keeping the hose and wand attachment standing, hence the stepping on the wand. The dusting head is large so using it in smaller spaces is not possible. I think my bristles are plastic, not the horsehair noted in the description, and because the handle is so large it's very clumbsy to dust with.I still prefer it over the uprights I have owned in the past.
Had a previous Progressive vacuum and when it finally died, purchased this model. Design flaws on this model sacrificing onboard storage for attachments to build slightly larger motor...attachments currently lying on closet floor, so inconvenient. Also, handle/wand no longer extends like previous models, which is a real "pain in the back", literally for me at 5'1" and especially my 6'2" husband. Think men must design these appliances, because if women were consulted in the design process, this would have been built better. For me, I wouldn't recommend this vacuum to anyone. Should have just kept my older Progressive and had it repaired.

I just LOVED loved loved my old kenmore cannister. It was 15 years old and died. Bought this one. OH my gosh I hate the horrid way the plastic is so huge on the wand end.. you can't just use the wand like the old model for edges. And REALLY stupid is the holes in the small wand attachment.. I plugged those holes up first thing, you WANT the most suction you can get when you use that. It's "okay" still... but I hate the new wands. AND I already knocked the floor brush OFF while going in and out and under the furniture, knocked it on a leg.. right off. I can tell this is the beginning of it becoming sort of useless.. it's going to keep popping off on me now. The older models never ever came off, they were so so much sturdier. The suction is still good however and still the ease of using it everywhere.

We really enjoy the look and feel of this vacuum . The accessories are perfect for us. We have a two dogs and two cats and this vacuum seems perfect for cleaning up hair and litter.
Having grown up with a Kenmore vacuum, then having one for nearly 20 years which recently needed replaced, I expected the same practical useful quality. The suction is good, but there are several design flaws that make this model a big hassle to use. For one, the pet attachment was appealing since I do have pets in the house that shed so must vacuum often. The pet attachment on furniture works good. I also have carpeted and hard floors. The carpet attachment is fine, but the bristles on the hard floor attachment collect every piece of fur and hold onto it tight! I use to just metal edge of the suction tube to clean it off, but that is no longer an option, - which was a very useful and simple feature. Only fingers can remove the mass of fur the bristles collect. Gross! I also miss the soft dust brush of the old style, because the new one is not nearly as useful, and ... there is no place to store it on the canister! So it is never handy. I also would never have chosen white as the color. I've never had to clean a vacuum before, but this collects dirt quickly and looks dirty. This Kenmore Progressive vacuum has made a simple household chore a huge hassle.
I love the machine but can not stand up straight to use because the wands are so short and do not extend. I use the machine bent over and I am only 5 feet one inch tall. Wish I had paid a little more and bought the sweeper with the extender wands. Other wise the machine is great.
This "Progressive" vacuum is by far the worst I have ever used and bought. It will not stand up by itself, so if you leave it to do something, it will fall over. The cord frequently gets in the way, as you have two different parts of the vacuum to avoid. But the worst part about this vacuum is that the canister is constantly getting caught around corners, flips itself, and in general, is always in the way. Do not buy.
Had my old Kenmore canister for nearly 20 years and loved it. When I decided to buy a vacuum for my stepdaughter for Christmas, I did extensive research of all of the top brands out there, shopped the stores, tried some of them out, spoke with friends, read articles in Consumer Reports, and came to the conclusion that the Kenmore Progressive was the best. I was so excited, I bought one for myself too. My stepdaughter loves hers because it is so great on dog hair. The new one is even better than my old favorite---same great suction, sturdy but lighter, more new built-in conveniences, and easier to use on the stairs. This one's a real winner.

The house was not lived in for three years. The wall-to-wall mauve carpet was a mess from pet stains and other spills. It's over 25 years old and we had little hope of restoring it, but with a good spray-on cleaner and our new powerful vacuum we were successful enough to be able to clean the carpet well enough to be able to continue to use it. It was a huge savings for the cost of a new vacuum.

The vacuum performed well enough when it was running, but it kept tripping the arc-fault circuit breakers required in newer homes. Exchanged the first one to see if it was a one-off anomaly, but even the second one did the same thing. Sometimes the breaker would trip immediately, sometimes it would take a few minutes. This never happened with our older vacuums - either uprights or the older version of this Kenmore canister. Brought it back for a refund. At least the return was easy with no argument at the store.
