Okay, we all saw that one coming!
We have had this vacuum for about a month now and our floors haven't been this clean for some time that's for sure! My wife says it must be a great vacuum since the kids all seem to fight for it and are always vacuuming their rooms! I suppose I should say thank you, Kenmore, for that !
Now, on to the review.
I like the power of this thing. It is a 12 amp motor spinning the impeller and it creates more suction than I have seen in a vacuum cleaner in some time.
I can go from carpet to wood floors simply by turning off the brushes in the head.
It sits on the stairs allowing us to clean the carpet on the stairs (nice).
The Pet PowerMate and Pet Upholstery Tool actually work! This is a big plus as we have a cat and a dog and they like the furniture!
Of all the features, my kids love the cord retraction system the most!
It seems to take more effort than it should to get it to turn a corner. The handle turns a lot before the head actually turns in the direction you want it to go so it isn't as effortless as it could be. For me it is a design flaw that is easily forgotten when you look at all the positive aspects.
Most vacuum cleaners will allow you to lift the power head for whatever reason you may choose and this unit does not allow for that. When the head is unlocked you can lay the handle on the floor and the head remains flat. If you never have to lift the head you're golden, if you do (like the wife needed to today) then you're out of luck.
I think, for the most part, Sears/Kenmore got this one right. Aside from a couple of nit-picky complaints I liek the way the unit functions and my favorite feature is the "Exclusive Stair Grip" which is really just a piece of foam set at an angle but at least it shows someone who uses a vacuum was involved in the design of this thing! It works and that is what's most important.
Not happy with this vacuum...I have purchased 5 Kennmore Progressive canister vacs in the last 15 years. They were the BEST vacuum anyone could own. The older model, couldnt be "killed. The first one I purchased is still working! it is 15 years old...my son stole it from me about 7 years ago...I bought another and two years later my other son took that one...still working...this has happened 3 times. I purchased this one with great apprehension due to the obvious changes they made. The wand is shorter, the wand is also wider, and the (couplings??) where the attachments go on are so big that they dont fit anywhere the old one did. (under dressers, behind furniture) The "easy release" foot thing is so big that it catches on the bottom of the bed and disconnects the power-mate. It wont get into corners the handle is not comfortable to hold...I could go on endlessly! I dont think the person who designed this vacuum ever used one. It LOOKS all pretty and "steamlined," but it is not functional. Perhaps if someone never experienced the previous model they will like it , but this vacuum was not made better. Lots of plastic...including the button that releases the attachments....(used to be metal) that little clip broke today...Ive had the unit for 3 months....will not be purchasing another! Sears, you should have stuck with the Tried and True!

cleaning was very good, but find the size of the wand to be at the outer limits for small hands. while trying to release tools, it required both hands & it was a struggle. and, the dust brush is a big joke....did anyone try cleaning in tight places with it ??? a small, round dust brush with long bristles is a far better "weapon" for walls, woodwork, & all 'round attacks on dirt. I have such a brush and 2 extension wands to reach ceilings, but alas, they are smaller than the opening you built for those massive attachments provided. another location to store the crevice tool would be wonderful......was afraid it would be in several pieces by the time I managed to free it from the hose. I also have another crevice tool (without all the suction control vents), that is longer & far better but again, alas, it doesn't fit the oversized hose diameter. the pet power brush was awesome for carpeted stairs, and did a super job getting dog hair off car seat, but again, it's cumbersome also. the canister does follow well, and appreciated how quiet it is. the handle is also big & clunky

I needed a good vacuum to clean my stairs and going from carpet to tile/wood all with one machine. Before I had to use 3 different cleaners to do the jobs. Saves so much time. Power is great, built in attachment on the handle is perfect to do the stairs and get the dog hair. The machine balances nicely on the stairs. 2nd favorite thing is I went back to bags....no more dusty bagless dumping!

The dusting brush attachment is too large and inflexible; also the bristles are too short. Very awkward to use and I haven't found a different type to replace it on-line. I gave this vac two stars because I do a lot of detail vacuuming as I live on a dirt road and the dust in my home is actual "dirt". Other than that the vacuum performs as well as previous models I have owned.
Everything about this product is perfect. Lightweight, the part for removing pet hair is excellent. Just difficult to put back the small nozzle like vacuum part to remove dirt from corners or shelves or small places. It should be easy to just clip it back. Need to redesign this for convenience. Also the cord should be easy to coil back to its compartment after use. Have to push and pull to keep the cord from recoiling back
This is a terrible vacuum. It doesn't pickup well. All of the dirt gets clogged in the bottom of the sweeper and you have to clean it out by hand. I hate this vacuum! Kenmore products aren't good quality anymore. My last one!
This is my third Kenmore canister vacuum. Every one has stood up well to heavy use and adverse environments. The canister model makes it easy to get suction power to any location, and being able to detach the independent carpet head allows one to save on power consumption. Better to pay more for this model than the cheaper Kenmore canisters because it is built so much more sturdily. Durable with powerful suction. The best, most convenient vacuum on the market in it's price range. Kenmore vacuums are dependable and guaranteed to work well for years.
I haven't had such clean carpets in a while, this vacuum has been wonderful so far. The cord is nice and long, the suction is powerful, and it did a great job on my stairs, I'm very happy with this purchase!
I have always used a Sears canister vacuum cleaner. Bought my old one about 1985. So the time came when it needed to be replaced I bought a replica of the one I had. Will last me forever!! Love it.

Love this canister vacuum. Have the Kenmore Intuition for my primary residence just bought the Progressive for my summer home. Did not want to spend as much on my summer home. When i started looking at other brands, non could compete with the features and power of the Kenmore Progressive in that price range. Cost less than most other brands and still had the power and mobility of a Kenmore canister. I have been married 32 years and I just purchased my third Kenmore canister (not counting the Progressive for my summer home) Every other vacuum I bought I returned. The Kenmore lasts forever. (We use the old ones as shop vacs)
I purchased this vacuum 6 months ago. I have owned Kenmore canister vacuums for 30 years. The handles have always had adjustable heights and I didn't look closely before I purchased this one to see that it didn't. I am 5'10" and now with this one I have to bend over to vacuum. I am disappointed that they changed a good thing and assume everyone is short!!!
This vacuum was everything I expected. This was my 3rd Kenmore, I am a very happy return customer. Lots of power, easy to tear down and put together when changing different attachments.
