I bought this vacuum about 3 months ago. Using it the other night the motor started slowing and died. I took it to the repair center and they said it wasn't covered under warranty. I thought a one year warranty was just that......one year. Their CSR was very rude and offensive and they gave an excuse the filter was clogged, but the owners manual says it only needs to be replaced every 6 months. I wasted my money and I don't recommend this or any other Kenmore vacuum to anyone who wants a quality product. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!!

I really loved my vacuum until a year later I started having issues with the hose that connects to the base. I didn't buy the warranty and now I'm out of luck.
This is my fourth unit. The reason we buy them often is that we use it on a daily basis, sometimes more than once a day. Dogs, allergies, cleaning habits, you name it. The use of machine is pretty simple and straight forward, it picks up dirt and pieces of food, hair, etc very efficiently. My favorites are the tools, they work. My only complaint would be the need for bags, and the fact the bags do not fit perfectly, meaning, it slides off place sucking the dirty out of bag inside machine, within bag compartment. So because of it you need to constantly clean the filter. Its worth it, not high priced as a Dyson, and not as heavy as other brands. If you know how to clean, this vacuum will do its job!!
I had my previous Kenmore canister vacuum for nine years. I absolutely loved it! Due to a son's malfunction in using it, and my husband's well-intentioned attempt to fix it, it unfortunately needed to be replaced. After reading a lot of the reviews for the new Kenmore canisters online, I was very leery. I cannot be more pleased with our choice in replacement. This new model has more power than the last, a brighter light, and the same metallic connectors that were important to me in finding a replacement. I did not want a plastic connector that could possibly break with teenage sons. Without a doubt, the Kenmore canisters continue to be my model of choice.
WOW! THIS KENMORE CANISTER VACUUM CLEANER IS THE MOST WONDERFULL VACUUM I HAVE HAD IN YEARS. THE POWER OF THIS VACUUM CLEANER IS GREAT. LIGHT WEIGHT TO PICK UP OR PULL AROUND, EASY TO HANDLE. i HAVE HAVE ABOUT 3 VACUUM CLEANERS IN THE LAST 6 YEARS. THIS ONE BEST THEM ALL. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ONE TO ALL MY FRIENDS, AND FAMILY TOO. GOOD JOB, SEARS.
Very good vacuum, have been using for a long time and only one that we use. It does work very well and will continue to use it for a long time.

Just purchased this vacuum to replace Electolux Oxygen. That one wasn't great either, but at least the nozzle was small enough to go under my radiators. This won't fit under bureaus either. Changing nozzles every 2 minutes is not a very efficient use of my time. I'll use it for my 2 rugs, and bring out the Swiffer for now. The wand keeps rotating out of the slot when I change directions, hence the handle goes with it and twists in my hand. It's also not long enough. The suction is good if the nozzle is directly over the dirt. It's terrible in corners and edges. Oh, I guess I'm supposed to change the nozzle for that too! I did shop around, and found that most vacuums are made with large nozzles now. I don't see the advantage, unless your cleaning a ballroom. The vacuums with the smaller nozzles don't seem to have power or wheels. The only good thing about this one is the cord is long and rewinds itself. On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this one.
I bought this canister as a replacement for my Kenmore Progressive Canister vacuum. After about 10 years, it plum wore down. The Kenmore Canister has a smaller profile than my previous vacuum and it comes with the power mate attachment. The vacuum has good suction on carpets, wood and hard floors. The canister stands really well on the stairs. However, it is more difficult to use the main unit on the stairs. One main reason for buying this vacuum is that it had the power mate, an attachment I used mainly for the carpeted stairs. Thi s power mate is smaller than my previous one. So, it takes more effort and longer to clean the stairs. The base canister does not house the power mate as it does with the rest of the attachments - a significant disappointment. Without a "home" for the power mate, makes more of an inconvenience in storing the entire vacuum.
Great vacuum. Good price. The variable speeds make a huge difference when it comes to wood and carpet cleaning. The Filter also helps with vacuuming large quantities of dust up. Overall good product. Bag has a decent capacity also.

My wife owned one of these when I met her 17 years ago. After years of use and abuse, we finally had to get a new one. The same kind! This vacuum is still a great performer and probably one of the best products Kenmore has made for the price.

This is the fourth vacuum I've purchased in the last 30 days. It is much better than the Dyson's. It has more features and picks up everything. My housekeeper uses one and has suggested it many times. I finally went with her recommend and wish I hadn't wasted the time on the Dyson's.

As a house cleaner who vacuums all day I can tell you I have owned a lot of bad vacs...this one is simply the best. Buy the five year plan, if you use it once it will have paid for itself off! Few things actually make me want to write a review and this is one of them.
I went for this vacuum because it offers HEPA filtration and stores all of the extra fittings on board. I bought plenty of extra bags and additional HEPA filters. The air coming out the exhaust vent smelled really quite good. Unfortunately, it has nose-dived and it would seem that the motor has failed. I am currently trying to find the on-line Owners Manual so that I might be certain that I have done everything I can to get it going again. It would definitely not be worth it to take this in for repairs. I am not used to vacuums failing so quickly (3 years) and I am really flummoxed as to what to do now. I don't look forward to spending the amount of time that I spent looking into this one.
Hands down, this is the best vacuum out there for the money. PERIOD! Sears has designed a great vacuum, and here is why. Ever clean a bagless? Nasty! Even outdoors. Try cleaning stairs or underneath the bed, chairs, tables etc. This orange wonder has a Hepa filter and the replacement bag is 99% allergen free. It goes under the bed, chairs, tables with ease. It has an easy on off switch from carpet to hard floors. Super suction with indicator, floor light, and retractable cord. Easy change filter and nice inside tool carpartment and much more. I paid with a discount coupon, and on sale $154.00. Don't listen to the idiot's who do not change the filters when reguired by the amount and type of cleaning there doing. Keep up the good work Sears. I ventured off and tried others. Never again.
Bought a Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum Cleaner-Red, model #21714 in April 2012. It worked fine until August 2013 when I lost power to the head. I had the wand replaced at a cost of $202 and it worked fine again until March of 2014 when I lost power to the head again. Diagnosis...I need a new wand at a cost of $202. That's $404 in repairs in 7 months for a vacuum that cost me $366 less than 2 years ago. Not having it repaired...I'll buy a new vacuum that does't need repairs every few months, and IT WON'T BE A SEARS PRODUCT!!! My advice, don't buy this vacuum.
