I bought this vacuum about 3 months ago. Using it the other night the motor started slowing and died. I took it to the repair center and they said it wasn't covered under warranty. I thought a one year warranty was just that......one year. Their CSR was very rude and offensive and they gave an excuse the filter was clogged, but the owners manual says it only needs to be replaced every 6 months. I wasted my money and I don't recommend this or any other Kenmore vacuum to anyone who wants a quality product. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!!
Hands down, this is the best vacuum out there for the money. PERIOD! Sears has designed a great vacuum, and here is why. Ever clean a bagless? Nasty! Even outdoors. Try cleaning stairs or underneath the bed, chairs, tables etc. This orange wonder has a Hepa filter and the replacement bag is 99% allergen free. It goes under the bed, chairs, tables with ease. It has an easy on off switch from carpet to hard floors. Super suction with indicator, floor light, and retractable cord. Easy change filter and nice inside tool carpartment and much more. I paid with a discount coupon, and on sale $154.00. Don't listen to the idiot's who do not change the filters when reguired by the amount and type of cleaning there doing. Keep up the good work Sears. I ventured off and tried others. Never again.
Bought a Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum Cleaner-Red, model #21714 in April 2012. It worked fine until August 2013 when I lost power to the head. I had the wand replaced at a cost of $202 and it worked fine again until March of 2014 when I lost power to the head again. Diagnosis...I need a new wand at a cost of $202. That's $404 in repairs in 7 months for a vacuum that cost me $366 less than 2 years ago. Not having it repaired...I'll buy a new vacuum that does't need repairs every few months, and IT WON'T BE A SEARS PRODUCT!!! My advice, don't buy this vacuum.

Buyer Beware--- Yes, this vacuum does have good suction but I'm disappointed that I can use only half of the dirt bag---a waste and expense. The dirt bag area is half the size of the older models and the "engineers" haven't adjusted the bag sizes.
Purchased this model after returning the "progressive" vac. for lack of its accessibility. This vac. is much lighter and can get under our furniture where as the progressive could not due to its bulky plastic couplers. Don't care about the color, as its "legacy" design has everything we look for in a vacuum cleaner with no useless extras. It picks up the animal hair in one pass and comes with a smaller compact powermate attachment which I find to be more versatile to use. Defiantly satisfied!
I had a Sears Kenmore for over 30 years. It was the best canister vacuum cleaner I have ever had. This one is a similar to the one I had. The first one I purchased the on/off switch would not stay on. It was returned and exchanged for the same model. The second one has NO SUCTION. I will be returning it. I still love the Sear products in general. I have found in my dealings with Sears that they always are willing to make good on their products.
I bought this model because it was higher rated than other full size progressive models. Sears doesn't tell you that the bag compartment is smaller than other progressive models so you only get to use 1/2 of the very expensive bag because you have to fold it to fit. Now the check bag indicator is permanently stuck open/full even with a new bag. The bracket where the bag slides in is very tight and I have torn more than 1 brand new bag making them unusable. I'm taking it back. Don't waste your money on this one!

Easy to set up ,and works good out of box. Will see how long motor and attachment tabs hold up. Everything seems to be plastic, so we will see how long till something breaks. Price was good and initially impressed
Bought this for someone who loves canister vacuums and wanted to stick with that style. For it being on the lower end of the kenmore line, I was amazed how flawlessly it worked. For the price it cannot be beat. Vacuuming is a ease with this thing. I don;t see any reason to pay more for a vacuum after using this.
I loved the suction and design of this vacuum. I changed the bag and cleaned the filter every three months with once every two weeks usage so it was maintained I thought well enough. But alas the vacuum died after nine months. The motor started burning as it came to a grinding halt. Yes, I expected better.
I have a owned this particular vacuum in the past, as well as the Kenmore Progressive Canister vacuum. I own a cleaning business so it was time for a new vacuum (I prefer the Kenmore brand). I purchased the latest Progressive model approx 10 days ago. I was not pleased with its 'upgrades' at all. I returned the Progressive and purchased this particular model again. I am quite pleased with this one as they have not made any changes with this model (other than the obtrusive bright orange color that I will learn to live with). I firmly believe in the quote "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". This model is just as powerful as all of the other Kenmore 12 amp models. It does not have a few of the bells and whistles, but I certainly do not need those. I need a good quality vacuum that isn't heavy, as well as one that has all of the practical attachments, as this model has. Great vacuum! I am very, very pleased!

I love canister vacuums and this one is no exception. I've been using Kenmore canister vacuums for the last 30 years and even though this one is a little on the cheaper end of the spectrum, it still rocks. Runs awesome and has excellent sucking power. Love all the attachments and the compact size without sacrificing power.
I purchased this item to replace another vacuum which wasn't as big and the quality of the suction wasn't very good. Love this brand of vacuum - have purchased many of the Kenmore Canister - the ease of removing the beater bar to get into corner is great. Love the color orange also - also have a yellow one.

I've always had Kenmore canister vacuum cleaners because they're light, easy to maintain, and effective. The only problem with this one is my daughter loves it too, and it spends more time at her house than mine. One tip: There are two (2) filters in every vacuum cleaner. Regularly clean the little one or you will think the vacuum is broken and buy another one.
Our second Kenmore canister vacuum cleaner in eight years just died. I had already spent over $100 to repair a short in the wiring, replace the clip that holds the wand upright and a defective headlight. Now the entire vacuum head fell apart. Replacement cost- $155 and I won't do it. The old Kenmore quality apparently no longer exists, so neither does this old Kenmore customer. We've bought another brand vacuum that costs no more than Kenmore but gets great reviews. Adios, Sears. We will not return.
After enjoying the durability, reliability, and excellent performance of a Kenmore Whispertone that lasted for 14 years, I bought a Dyson Animal 2 years ago. It's been non-stop aggravation as that machine just is not cut out for life on the farm despite its name; so today I treated myself to a new Kenmore canister. Love it already, it has cleaned my hardwood floors and area rugs better in one pass than that other machine has done in multiple uses. It's quiet, powerful, and well-built (so far), sharing many of the same features as my previous machine. I did splurge and buy the 5-year warranty for $59 which is peace of mind and means a discount on bag purchases. I should have bought this two years ago, lesson learned!

The vacuum cleaner is relatively quiet and light-weight. The top of the wand detaches so that it can be used to dust or clean crevices with the handy attachments located in the canister.
