Great but know what you are buying
i will not go into how great induction and the cooktop both are as there are 30+ reviews here. However you can put a towel under a frying pan to keep spatters down. The cooktop is shiny glass and shows every small smudge! The other thing to be aware of is the cooktop needs a 40 amp circuit many 30" cooktops are 30 so you will need to upgrade your electrical in order to have the cooktop work. Your pots and pans need to be magnetic. If a magnet does not stick to the bottom of the pan then it will not work! All that said we both love our cooktop and we got rid of over 20 pots and pans we had accumulated and now have 3 frying pans and 4 pots!

Buyer Beware
I had a Kenmore Elite installed in Dec 2008. After a power outage, on Christmas day, the cooktop had an error message and an annoying beep that wouldn't stop until we turned off the breaker. Every time we tried to restart the cooktop, the annoying beep persisted. It took 2-3 hours before it would restart. We continued to have power outages during January and the same thing occurred repeatedly, but each time the cooktop took longer to reboot. Once it took 3 days before I could use it again. In Feb, serviceman came, couldn't figure out problem so replaced the entire guts of the unit ($1300 their cost). Since that time the hobs have been slow to boil water. Some take over 10 minutes which is not acceptable for induction. Also, the electronic controls do not respond well to my fingers and it is very frustrating to get them to work. Others mentioned this in reviews, but I didn't listen. Thankfully, after going to Sears store where I purchased cooktop, they graciously agreed to replace it with a Bosch which is on order. I was pleasantly suprised with the excellence of their customer service! The salesman said that Electrolux which makes Kenmore Elite is junk so buyer beware! I read the reviews on Sears.com and many were positive so I was swayed because the Kenmore was decidely less expensive for the budget conscious. In retropsect, I wish I would've heeded the negative reviews. If you decide to buy Kenmore Elite, make sure you get the protection agreement as you may need it.

Love this product

If you haven't tried an induction cooktop, then you are missing out!! They are fabulous! I love being able to cook stuff while not having to worry about touching the cook top because it doesn't get hot. The only negative is you will get so use to this wonderful feature that you can never go back to a regular cooktop ever.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore Elite 30" Induction Cooktop has made me a huge fan!

I am a long time Italian cook and we were remodeling our home and after much research decided it was time to try induction.  I am so thankful I did, I will never go back to gas or electric.

This product by Kenmore has exceeded my expectations. The boiling of water is amazingly fast. Large stock pots of water boiled in 3 minutes or less, smaller sauce pans boil in about a minute. My favourite is when boiling and i turn down the reaction is immediate. The control & accuracy will make any experienced cook extremely happy and will make the novice feel like a pro.

I have had our stove 2 years now & have been extremely pleased. In comparison to the Electrolux it is very similar but slightly less costly & has sears to back it up.

It is quiet & you are able to clean it quickly & easily and has a great feature if there is spillover the stove will shut off automatically for safety. Built in timer is great.

I would and HAVE recommended this to many people and would encourage anyone shopping for a new stove-top to consider it.

Be aware you can NOT use less expensive, aluminum, or low quality cookware on this stove-top.  You will need high quality cookware. As my wife said" oh darn, we have to buy new cookware!" She meant it as a joke,  it is well worth the investment.

Also if you plan to use any heavy iron cookware you can place a piece of wax paper between the glasstop and the bottom of pan to keep from scratching and not burn the paper.  Nice feature. Also u can wipe spills while hot and not burn towels.

If buying a new stove highly consider this product with confidence.

the only Con has been the cleaning cream gets trapped in indentations for the controls and leaves them looking white.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This is a very sensitive cooktop - buy the extended warranty

I will start by saying that I love cooking with this cooktop. It heats up fast, cools down fast, is energey efficient, and the varied heat controls make it as good as cooking with gas. Unfortunately, within one month of purchasing th cooktop we had an error message for high voltage. After 2 weeks and many calls to the electric company, the voltage to our house has been turned down so as not to cause a problem. The problem persists however, and everytime there is a power outage, the cooktop stops working for at 2-3 days. This time, it has been out for a week. I actually had the power company come out to check the voltage again, but it is within the acceptable range. We have a technician scheduled to come evaluate the cooktop and I fear that this may be the end - luckily we have the extended warranty... I am a convert to induction, but would not buy this particular product again.

Easy and fast

Have been using this unit for approximately 1.5 years.  It was the only 30" full induction cooktop in the price range at the time (all 4 eyes are induction).  Cooks wonderfully and is easy to operate.  Only issue I've had is that the touch controls respond to random objects at times other than my finger.  If it is cool and dry in your home you might have issues controlling it.  Just hold down for a bit longer and it should work just fine.

Don't know how I ever lived without it

Induction cooktop Stoves are the best thing I have ever used to cook like a gourmet pro in my kitchen. It saves me time, energy, heat and money on my electiric bills. I use my iCookware with this cooktop and it's a match made in cooking heaven. This cooktop is the most valuable tool I own. It's easy clean up since I can cook directly over a towel on the burner since it is induction it only heats up the steel of the cookware. This way I do not scratch my cooktop or my cookware and they both look as new as the day I purchased them. No more greasy drip pans in my kitchen.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Unresponsive touchpad

1. Yes it is true Induction heats up really really fast

2. Yes it is much easier to clean than my prior experience with Glass tops

Unfortunately our experience with the actual cooktop has been bad from the start.  From the beginning I frequently could not get 2 burners to turn on at the same time.  Additionally I didn't realize how awkward it is that all the small pan spots are inthe back ( I am 5'11"  so being able to reach isn't usually an issue I consider).  I also find that the unit sits high off the counter which gives it less of the sleek look that I wanted.

Anyway after 5 visits (1 by the home warranty and 4 by sears) by repair guys our cooktop is still not working properly (it appears that every part that could have been replaced was!).  In fact the touchpad responsiveness has declined.  I can't even always get the cooktop to turn off!  What a safety hazard.

All the parts are electrolux making me really question the quality of that brand.  Now I am "waiting"  because while Sears says that it will be replaced they haven't contacted me with the amount I can spend towards a new cooktop.  After 2 months without a quality cooktop I am fuming!  Additionally I am concerned that now I have a hole in my counter that limits my options among new version and that I will have to pay for installation all over again.  Just not the most pleasant experience!

I will never go without induction again!

It's been over 3 years now that I have had my 30" induction cooktop. I was remodeling my kitchen, had done some research on induction four burner cooktops but all I could find was super high end products that cost over $3,000. Then I saw on ad on "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" and checked it out on the Sears website. For $1,700 I had a four burner induction cooktop in my new kitchen and cooking has never been more pleasant. I had a couple of time it freaked out on my and I had to flip the breaker. No big deal though. I brag about it to anyone who's considering new appliances. I feel bad for the review on here who did not have good luck with this product. I can't find anything bad to say about it. The touch pad can take a little to get used to. But when I consider the easy cleaning, energy efficient, safe around kids, and heating quickness, I can honestly say I will never go without induction again.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Positive review turns negative

I loved this cooktop for the 2.5 years it worked. Cooked well. Looked beautiful. Cleaned like a dream. But it sort-of popped a month ago--and showed error #35. $700 later it still isn't working and they are saying it needs an additional $365 part. If I were to buy an induction cooktop again, I would invest in the service contract. I hate service contracts! and never get them -- but this would be the one thing I would get it for.  (Note- for the $700 a year this induction top has averaged-out costing me, I could have bought a new, decent electric cooktop and thrown it out evey year for a new one if I couldn't keep it as clean as the induction top!)

Expensive yet worthless accessory. I need a lower rating system

I purchased the Elite 30 Induction Cooktop November 2005.   I bought it for a vacation home that we rarely use, yet alone cook in.  The few times I used it was to impress friends boiling water.  On a recent inspection I discovered the cook top reading a "2" on all burners, an error code 80 and inoperable.  Sears first sent a technician who stated that these cooktops required a special tech familiar with these products.  Sears then sent a 2nd technician who stated that the main board had failed with a cost of under $400.00 to fix.  I agreed to the repair, but was then shipped the wrong part two times! My last visit yielded a new (3rd) technician who stated that even if the part was right, the previous tech's assessment was incorrect and his new estimate was $1200.00  Not only was their service incompetent, for these products, but the repair, for an obviously defective unit, would cost as much as a new unit.   I'm now shopping for a Bosch or anything but Sears or its manufacturer Electrolux.   Enough of the bells & whistles.  Any one need parts?  No guaranty on what is good.

Great appliance

I have had this cooktop for about 4 months now and I'm very happy with it. I would prefer a gas stove, but am not set up for that, but as far as electric goes this product is great. The positioning of the elements is a little strange, I feel like they are far away from me, but getting used to it. I love the touch pad and the speed in which things heat up and cool down. It is very easy to clean and looks great when it's clean. One thing to consider before purchasing this appliance is whether your cookware is magnetic. I found out the hard way that most of my cookware did not work with this induction type cooktop. Revereware is NOT magnetic and I had to purchase all new pots and pans. That was a cost that I did not expect. Check the bottom of your pans with a magnet to see if they will work with the induction system. All in all, I'm very happy with this appliance.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

LOVE IT!

I have had this cooktop for three years. I use it at least three times a day and usually am using all four units. I will be building a new house soon and I will also purchase this cooktop for that house. I like it THAT MUCH!!! The only problem I have had is the trim strip came loose on the front. I did purchase the extended warranty, so no hassles there.

Awesome Cooktop

With my Fabulous New iCookware and this Induction CookTop it's marriage made in Cooking Heaven! They work excellent together. Great to cook on top of a towel. I dont scratch cooktop or Beautiful Cookware. Everything I cook comes out like Gourmet! Both these things has made cooking even more fun than before. I love not sweating over any heat. Once you buy the induction Cooktop along with my iCookware, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner. You will also want to upgrade to the correct cookware.

one and a half years and still happy

before we bought we read the reviews and added the warranty at the lat minute. So far so good 1.5 years of cooking and the cooktop still looks like new and performs great. We are also only using a 30 Amp circuit and it has never blown (instructions call for 40 amp). I find the buttons a little frustrating to adjust in a hurry. sometimes it reads my finger sometimes I have to try a few times. I bought this one because I wanted a 30" and I was also price conscious. I really really like induction!

Induction Cooktop

I have had this cooktop for a few months now and have found a new love of cooking. Not only is it fast to heat up but on low simmer actually keeps food warm similar to a crock pot. Even delicate rices stay warm and do not overcook. I cook a lot of soups and they can be left simmered unattended instead of requiring frequent stirring. The surface is easily cleaned with vinegar and water and stays clean as glass. you can clean it right after cooking as there is no heat from the surface, there is no heat generated you dont get cooked on food that stains and clumps. I had a radiant cooktop and that was an issue with that style. The only issue is the touch buttons take a few seconds to respond. Would highly recommend and it is worth the extra $1000 for the cleanliness and time savings.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Just fair

Do not buy this cooktop without a 5 year service plan. We got the cooktop in Sept/2006, and it failed Aug/2008. Just turned off during use and after 4 visits from Sears ($1000+ in parts and labor, not charged to us) they declared it "not economical to repair" and gave us an authorization number to go shop for a new cooktop. We've been without a cooktop for about a month now. Now for a review of the cooktop itself: it worked well, but there were some annoying things: 1) most induction cooktops have two separate amplifier circuits so that you can boost on two separate zones at the same time; not this one 2) no auto-off timers. It's great to be able to set the timer for something like oatmeal and have it turn off after 30 minutes while you're still in the shower 3) the trim on the front and back made it hard to clean 4)no quick access to low/med/high Other than that, we love induction cooking for all the reasons outlined in the other reviews here.

Works great when it is working, but...

We owned this units since Nov 2007. The induction technology works great. Boils water rapidly, heats instantly. However, after one brief power outage, the unit has become unreliable. Intermittently, the unit would show various error codes which resolves with cutting the power to the unit 48hrs minimum. We have contacted Sears for repair. After two technicians, 3 visits, 2 incorrect parts ordered and replaced, we are at 7 weeks without a functioning cook top. Both technicians (one of them with 30 yrs of experience) eventually admitted that these were very new units and both haven't seen many of them and therefore were not able to diagnosis the problem precisely. Meanwhile, much time was wasted ordering parts that were not going the fix the problem. I think most people would consider 7 weeks with no cooking facility to be unacceptable. We have requested a replacement. We have yet to hear from this request. I will update my review when the replacement arrives in our home.

Can't wait to use it all the time

I have this cooktop in our home in Florida which will ultimately be for retirement but we use for our very frequent vacations there in the meantime. We finally finished remodeling the kitchen and now the cooktop is in and working GREAT!!! It's everything I expected and more. Now I just can't wait until I retire so that I can use it everyday instead of once a month or so. Just got back from vacation and miss it already. They' say gas is the best, but I have cooked with gas all my life and all I can say is where has induction been all my life?'.

Still in Love Two Years Later

I believe in reviewing a product after I have used it for awhile. Two years after purchase, I am still so in love with this cooktop. I love how fast it boils water. I love how instantly you can change/control the temperature. I love that spills don't burn onto the surface. I love how I can polish it back to looking new - and the flat controls means no knobs to try to clean around. I love that it is extremely energy efficient, AND does not heat up my kitchen (I live in Arizona, so that is a major bonus in the summertime). We have actually annoyed guests in our home with our enthusiastic demos of the the cooktop! "You gotta see this!..." The finger touch pads do take a specific touch to respond, but you get used to it. Your fingers can't be wet. Also, I had a heavy pepper grinder in the cabinet above my cooktop, and it slipped out of my hand, cracking the back corner of the cooktop. I was heartbroken, but the crack is hardly noticeable, and the cooktop still works perfectly. So just don't store heavy stuff above the cooktop. It is glass. One more bonus: the unit is so slim that we regained the cabinet space below the cooktop.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
