This pig loves to eat
I got this disposal to replace an 8ish year old Badger 5 that came with the house. What a great step up. Noise-wise, it's quieter when actually grinding (operating noise is the same, as we have a thin stainless steel sink). It also doesn't flinch when given bunches of food to grind, unlike the old model. We regularly had flooded sinks because of clogs caused by potato and carrot peels. Not anymore.
Installation is straightforward, with simple instructions. For the people who need a plug to hook theirs up: there are plug kits at Sears right where you got the disposal, and they're only $9.99. They're not included because that would raise the cost for the vast majority of people who hardwire theirs instead of using an outlet.
Most people don't realize this, but there are only really a couple companies that manufacture disposals. The largest in North America is Emerson. They manufacture Badger, InSinkEerator, and Kenmore. The base model Badger 5 is the equivalent of the Kenmore 6011. 1/2 hp, no sound insulation, plastic grind chamber, galvanized steel grinding elements, 1 year manufacturer's warranty. Unless you're only getting the disposal to sell a property, do yourself a favor and bypass the base model for something with more power, stainless steel insides, and better performance. You'll be glad you did.

26 months and it leaks
This disposer started leaking after 26 months. I called Sears Service and they assured me the 7 year warranty was valid and they scheduled a repair call. A Sears tech arrived 10 days later and refused to work on the unit because, "My paperwork doesn't say this unit is under warranty and I've never heard of anything being warranted for 7 years." I showed him that on the unit itself that it's labled "7 year warranty" so then he says, prove to me you're the original purchaser. I said "Are you going to work on this or not?" He said he would not and then said this was the last call of the day and that he wanted $65 for showing up and having his time wasted. I said, "Sears says this is under warranty and I bought it in Dec 2005. " When he saw he wasn't going to get any money from me he left. I called Sears to complain and they apologiized profusely and said their tech was wrong and if he had any doubts he should have called us to verify the warranty. They scheduled another service call for 10 days after the original. I hope this time it will be better. They said if the tech that responds for this call has any doubts regarding the warranty's validity for me to call them and put the tech on the phone and they will tell him the unit is under warranty. In the meantime, I still have a bucket under my sink to catch the leaking water.
Item was fairly easy to install, had a different footprint that required us to change our some of the plumbing but was doable. Noise level is acceptable and so far has worked without any problems whatsoever. Best this is having the Sears support behind the product.
Similar models elsewhere run from the same $190 price to $250, and none have the same 7 year warranty.
Everything you need comes in the box or can be taken off of the old unit when replacing it (the power cord, if needed, as an example) and it will mount right up to an insinkerator mount since it's basically an insinkerator disposal that says Kenmore. Because it's a bit bigger than the badger 5 disposal it replaced,I did have to shorten the drain pipe a bit, and in doing so I had to replace a gasket when I reassembled the drain pipe. But it was a piece that cost less than a dollar at the hardware store, so whatever.
It is a bit loud when it runs without food to chew up. I think it will quiet up as it breaks in, and I like the sound anyways. It has so much power that i can feel it turn on, and it chews through everything I've fed it so far without even breaking a sweat.
The main benefit is the all stainless internals....that's why i bought it.
The disposer is quieter and more powerful than my older disposer which I had to replace as a result of leaking seal. I also like the stainless cap for the sink. I really looks nice and will stay cleaner looking than the old black rubber cap. I had Sears install the item cheaper than a plumber would and the installers did a great job and the scheduling process was easy part of my online order. Picked the disposer up at my local Paint & Hardware store. Convenient and successful on line purchase.
I purchased this product mainly because of the 7-year warranty. After installing it, however, I am very impressed with the product. Installation was a snap, the parts are much higher quality than the leaky one I replaced, and it's very quiet. The only issue I had was it is larger diameter than our old one, so I had to adjust the drain pipe position a bit. Easy with the way my plumbing was arranged, but could require a little more effort with some pipe arrangements.
It is quiet, but not as quiet as I expected. It was easy to install, and works well. Directions are clear and simple. If you go by the online picture, you would think it's auto reverse, it's not. That pic is not the 60581 model in fact, it is 60554. Read the specs. They look alike, but they are different. Nevertheless, I'm very satisfied with the purchase.
First one bought had a defect in the outlet. Sears provided another without a problem. But this one has a poorly attached shroud that vibrates severely. The rotating parts are not balanced very well, contributing to the objectionable roughness. This is a replacement for a similar Kenmore model that worked well for more than 15 years. I'd ask for a replacement but expect it would be no different than this one. Very displeased!
Quiet & Efficient Food Waste Disposal. Installation pretty simple with good instructions. Remember to order p/n 60686 Kenmore Disposer Power Cord with strain relief to complete your installation. I was lucky and bought a 6 ft power cord and added my own strain relief.
We had to replace our old disposal, and chose this one based upon the price. My kids have a bad habit of leaving plates and silverware in the sink. A fork fell into the disposal that we were not aware of. When we turned on the disposal, we heard a strange noise and shut it off. I was amazed when I reached in a pulled out a fork that had been completely mangled - what power!!!
Had this garbage disposal for just over 2 years. Many years ago, an apartment maintenance guy/buddy of mine told me that garbage disposals should only be used as a last resort, everything should be scraped into the trash. Per that advice, we probably turn on the disposal twice a month, and never for anything big. Anyway, recently we noticed some flooding from underneath our sink and we tracked it down to a cracked "dishwasher inlet." This is the part built on the disposer that connects to the dishwasher. It snapped right off and caused the dishwasher connector (a separate accessory) to come loose. Therefore water was leaking from the dishwasher as well as whenever the sink was turned on. Anyway, I've scoured the internet and it appears that since this is a built on piece it cannot be replaced.
