After reading both positive and negative reviews of this washer and matching dryer, we purchased them at the end of May,2012. We purposely waited two months before making a written evaluation. Both washer and dryer have been used several times a week and we are very pleased with both. While at the store, the saleslady mentioned several times to "follow directions in the owner's manual". This we carefully did and have had very positive results. The clothes are clean and the water usage is down. The dryer does a better job that our old electric dryer did when it was new. We can recommend this washer/dryer. Just remember that it is a little different technology so you have to actually read and follow the owners manual.
Doesn't wash your clothes if you put more than 2 sets of clothes or if you mix something different with them. Takes all day just to get 1/2 of your laundry done. It will stop in the middle of the wash cycle and you have to keep restarting it. Even on clean clean washer cycle it still stops in the middle of wash cycle. Not sanitary at all. Bought in Nov. of 2010 not happy from day 1. DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY!.

I waited to write a review on this washer. I followed the manual and also received great info from the tech that installed my washer and dryer. The new he machine sounds completely different than a traditional washer. The lid locks, unlocks, and then locks again when first starting the cycle and can not be opened to add clothes w/o pausing. Watch the "locked" light before trying to open the lid. Washing similar clothes and picking the correct settings is very important!!!! Also, learning how much soap to add is key. Always treat spots before washing. Finally, shake clothes out before placing in dryer to eliminate wrinkles. I love that the dryer can actual keep up with the washer.
Thank goodness we purchased the warranty! Since owning this product, we've had to have it repaired twice causing a weekends of clothes building up and trips to the laundry mat. When it does work, my clothes come out clean, but I'd think again before purchasing a Kenmore product.
I'm from San Antonio, TX and was raised with Kenmore appliances. They don't make them like they used to. This machine has given me nothing but problems. I had to call repair man out after first month to repair sensor. It wouldn't run through a normal cycle without stopping. The washer would then just sit there and think and think. When it did go all the way through, clothes would come out still dirty and smell funny. Now the lid won't unlock and it's out of warranty. I refuse to pay Sear's or any repair service 75 dollars just to show up at my house before there's even any repair cost. This washer is going in the trash. Thanks Kenmore. You failed this time.
I agree this washer is different and you shouldn't over load it. Other than that, I think it works great. Saves on water and cleans very well. But you MUST read the instructions. It's not like old machines.
Worst machine ever!!!! This machine is so bad that on the THIRD service call the repairman CALLED and said he wasn't coming because there was nothing he could do. Machine does not put in enough water to cover clothes - sometime I have dry spots - leaves soap film (I use HE soap and don't even use recommended amount) and leaves lint. You can watch your laundry by unscrewing the lock from the lid...you will need to insert it in to lock slot to make connection for machine to run (same as if it were still connected to lid) You will be amazed at how this machine operates - OR DOESN'T - . We purchase Protection Agreement and was told there was nothing that could be done to help us. Purchased 3/10/11. We are going to keep pursuing this to see if we can recoup any of our money and so should everyone else. THIS IS RIPPING HARD WORKING PEOPLE OFF!!!!!!! I went last night and purchased a new machine at *****'s - old style with agitator ( friends have and it works great actually WASHES.
This washer is 19 months old and we have only had problems. It was only my husband & I the first 15 mths we owned the washer, so it got very little use. Then we had a baby and used it a bit more the last 4 mths. Now we are in the market for a new one because it doesn't even work. 1)it won't spin or agitate 2)It won't drain 3)The lid lock sensor freezes in blinking mode and sometimes it won't even start or sense a load. 4) Sometimes there wasn't even enough water to wet & wash all the clothes even small loads. 5)Powdered soap always just cakes into the clothes. 6) Even the Sears rep told me it will be better to just buy a new washer because if this one is already broken we are l going to keep spending money repairing it. 7) Seems like the control board/touch screen is fried. We are going to get an old school washer without electronics that can fail. Please save your money and don't buy this!

We bought this in 2011. We were very happy with it, other than the fact that it sounded like airplanes taking off over our house when it ran, until after just about one year (still under warranty) it made a horrific grinding metal on metal screeching sound and had to be fixed. Then, another year later, same thing. Then, a few months later, all of a sudden it quit draining. We're junking a less than two year old machine because repair costs would exceed what we paid for it.. This is a horrible product and I couldn't be more disappointed. DO NOT BUY THIS!
We bought this washer in July, 2011. We were fairly satisfied with its cleaning ability and quietness. After only 20 months it ceased to spin clothes, leaving them wet after a rinse cycle. It appears the sensor control was defective and Sears wanted $320 for a replacement. Even then they would not guarantee that would fix the problem. Sears does not seem to know what causes the spin problem or if it can be repaired. The quietness of the machine is due to an underpowered motor. We are tossing it and replacing it with another brand. Over the years we have purchased several appliances from Sears but never again. They should be ashamed to sell such trash.
This is the worst washer I have ever bought. It does not clean my clothes, and it transfers the dirt to other items in the load. I have to re-wash my jeans everytime. This is supposed to be a water saver and I have to re-wash my jeans everytime so how is this High Efficiency? With my old washer I was able to soak my jeans before washing, the sales person at Sears assured me that I would'nt have to do this anymore with this new washer, that it was a great machine. :(
This is the most frustratingly awful washer ever made. I have had it for over a year, and still feel so annoyed when using it. Can't soak, takes over an hour per wash, many times have to rehash, wringer does not always wring, door is a pain to open if you forget to throw something in, the efficiency part has me very puzzled...while the machine cranks and makes groaning sounds nothing is actually happening, no water filling..I could go on and on but I'm getting pissed off thinking about it....
I've had this washer for 2 weeks now, and I can confirm mine is very quiet. If you've ever heard an ink jet printer, then this is what the washer sounds like. It's quieter than the old agitator style it replaced. After about 5 minutes, the sound is rather soothing to be honest. It can get a little louder during the spin cycles, but that's to be expected. As far as its cleaning features, I've had no problems. My whites are actually whiter (again, this is compared to the agitator style it replaced). I can also confirm my electric bill is going to be cheaper... KCPL allows you to see daily usage, and on the days I've done laundry, my kWh usage barely changes (+/- 1 kWh change). I'm very happy with MY unit, but I guess your milage will vary. The matching washer is also great... thanks to the washer really getting the water out during the spin cycle, the dryer doesn't work as much. Clothes are done very fast with this combination of machines. I hope this review helps you.
We bought this washer because of a tremendous Washington Birthday sale discount and then we were horrified after reading the negative reviews . Well after a month's use we found no trouble with its cleaning ability and no soap residue, noise or vibration problems , The lid is only slightly slanted and we can place all kinds of items includiing piles of clothes on top. I think the problem may be a failure to read and or follow the instruction booklet. However, it is too early to vouch for its durability. The companion dryer is just fine.

Bought my machine in Sept. 2011, am so disappointed in it overall. Cons: Clothes just dont spin dry & you can put it on heavy instead of normal and get a little dryer but not much.. Had repair man here says that's how it is. Dungarees constantly come out twisted & wrinkled even though they are evenly distributed. Washer still vibrates a lot even though it is balanced, again Sears repairman said "that's normal". Dark clothes come out with some white even though I use 2-3 tablespoons of detergent. Pros: Clothes do come out clean. I have been a Kenmore customer for over 45 years, but never again will I buy this washer. I strongly recommend another brand.
This washer clean clothes very well. I do not like that the lid locks, have to pause cycle to put in another item. Also the beginning of wash cycle is VERY noisy and last a while.
The reviewer indicated they received a sample of this product.
The control panel went out mere months after warranty expired - so I have to constantly stop/restart/stop/restart/stop/restart before it will begin washing. The fabric softener component cracked broke (I never use it) so I could never reattach it. For the past year, I can't even get through a spin cycle without it giving me an error. Terrible terrible terrible machine, I regret buying this. If I could afford it (I can't) I would have replaced it sooner. 5 years use for a washing machine (that worked terrible) SUCKS. I will buy another Kenmore, but NOT ANYTHING CLOSE TO THIS ONE.
I purchased this machine a year ago. Fine for a few months but then noticed that spin cycle was inefficient. Shortly before the warranty expired I called for service. Had to wait several days and then another week before parts arrived. To be without a washer for so long when I have a very ill husband who creates much laundry was not a good experience! Very frustrated that Sears offers no emergency service! Now, a month or so later, the washer keeps stalling early in the cycle and will not complete a wash on any cycle. This time I have to wait two weeks for a service call, and who knows how long after that for whatever parts might be needed. My previous Kenmore washer worked perfectly for almost 25 years with no service calls, but this new breed is already failing after 14 months. I am disillusioned and disappointed, to put it mildly. My advice to anyone contemplating buying this machine: Don't!!
i have only had this washer for 2 years and wash maybe 4 loads a week- it no longer will spin all the water out of the clothes and i am having to use the spin cycle several times after the wash just to be able to place the clothes in the dryer. i do not suggest buying this one if it goes out after just 2 years.
I am totally disappointed with this appliance!!!! I was really excited to get an HE washer and go green, but this washer fails horribly at the job it's supposed to do. My clothes never come out clean and sometimes they even come out of the washer dry. The other comments are correct, the washer sucks! I wish I would have kept my 20 year old Kenmore washer. It did a great job, but the dryer was going so we thought we should buy a set if we were going to get a new dryer. We bought it February 2012 and I wish I?d had more time to pay closer attention to it (going to Afghanistan and starting a master?s degree really eats up your time) because now it?s too late to return it. I would just advise you to never, never, never purchase this piece of ****. You might as well just save yourself the money and hand wash your own clothes, because that?s essentially what you?ll have to do, since it can?t manage to wash anything sufficiently.
This machine is horrible! Do NOT purchase this item. The clothes do not get clean and it stains my clothes with blue Downy on every load. I have had sears repair out 5 times with no help! I am shocked at the poor service I have received and will never purchase another sears product.
i have had this machine for a few weeks now, got it early for Christmas, and so far it's great. It took out some old stains that i had that did not come out in my old washer, i got this machine and my local Kmart store, it was lot cheaper in the store then the price online. I really like this machine it is different but it seem to do a very good job, and it's quite. This works for me.
