I purchased this in the fall, expecting it to last a while. It was used with caution and care through the first two or three months it was in use. I set the temperature delay and let it sit for use as a backup heater and made sure that all of the directions for safety and longevity were followed. It died uneventfully and without reason or warning while failing to perform it's light duty task. Perhaps it was a lone lemon among all of the good ones. I also paid for the extended warrenty and I do not know why I was allowed to do that since the item was going to be discontinued, but so it was to be. I took my sad, pathetic Kenmore IR heater back the the Traverse City Mi. Sears Store where I learned this is discontinued and there are no more in stock. The best they could do is have me pay the difference on a model that looks the same but costs significantly more and pay the difference ($100+) or take a refund, but my warrenty that was not going to be any good regardless was not refundable, so I still only received a portion of my money returned. Sometimes You get a good deal- Sometimes you get hosed. I suppose I will stick with Craftsman Tools and forgo the rest of the offerings.

I live in a 1920 something house where the attic was converted into two bedrooms and storage (I would say 700sqft area). It was not insulated properly, maybe not at all. We went from freezing to being toasty some nights too hot for blankets and keeping it at 68 all the time, I especially like the energy saving option on it and would buy another one in a heartbeat!
We use this to supplement the central heating system in our great room which is 30 by 17 and drafty. This works wonderfully. It heats up quickly and cools down quickly. We have left it on by accident when leaving the house with no problem. It is cool to touch as well and looks quite nice with our leather furniture. Would recommend!

During the cold months this winter, our heating system refused to cooperate and we were really cold, this heating unit took care of us during the minus degrees wind chill. Would recommend!
I read many of the reviews here, and was surprised to read that for some other people this unit didn't heat rooms smaller than mine. I use this heater in a decent sized family room (about 20 X 24) and it does a fine job. My son even complained about being hot. Before buying, I was concerned that my room would be too large for this heater but even at the low heat setting it does a nice job of raising the temp in our normally cold room to a comfortable level. It's also nice looking & fairly quiet. The fan sound was another concern I had since it's sitting right next to our main TV, but I have to say when TV is on at normal volume; it covers up the low fan noise from the heater. One feature I really wish this heater had is a shut-off timer like most other heaters I've owned. Like most heaters, this unit cycles on & off to maintain the desired temp, and during the "off" cycle, there is no indication that the heater is "on", no lights, no sound, it appears like its shut off, but it's not.
I got this unit because I was wanting to lower my electric bill, but I find that I have to run this unit pretty much non stop in order for it to heat a room. If I do turn it off, it takes too long to re-heat the room. It does put out a decent amount of heat, just don't expect to heat a room quickly.
We bought the Heater during an extreme cold snap and our furnace wasn't able to keep our home warm enough. It was a huge help in keeping our large living room warm. We even put it in the bedroom over night and it kept our room nice and warm. I would highly recommend it. I
It heats good, but fan motor is loud. The first one we bought we return , because of a odd noise when heating, that was separate from fan noise. This second one has a loud fan noise as well. The digital display is on top of unit , so the remote is useless, you have approach the unit to see the display and for remote to work.

This little heater does the job. I bought it for my nephew for Christmas and it heats his entire 2-car garage in just a short period of time. He loves it and really likes the remote feature and the temperature display on top. He said it's easy to use and he doesn't have to worry about his toddler getting burned if he gets close to it.
I received it for Christmas, tested it out a few times briefly and seemed fine. Turned very cold here the last 2 days so we set it in living room to supplement our furnace in the extreme cold... didn't seem to help much, however today we noticed an odd smell while eating dinner and I ran in living room and the thin was stinking like it had melted, felt extremely hot, the temp said 95 tho it was set for 74... there were no lights, no blue or red and no fan on... thank God we were home to turn power off in back and unplug it before it burned something down!! Performance as listed. Using this heater as a supplement to a large 960 sq. ft. family room. Warms the room easily, very quiet. The remote doesn't work well unless you are almost over the heater.
This has kept our home warm the last few cold days. We needed something extra with our regular unit and we purchased this model. I would have purchased a couple more as gifts but our store was out of them. The sale price was excellent. I have ordered another online since the store cannot seem to keep them in stock. Hopefully it will be here in a few days.
