So far after i bought this item it has been great for the season here in NYC. It gets really REALLY cold for the btu rating. For living on a top floor apartment where it gets like an oven in the summer, it has kept the temp at bay for the last few hours now with the energy saver feature. I would reccomend this to every person looking for an affordable unit and is still a brand name product. Just make sure you have an elevator apartment, it does weigh about 70 lbs and lugging it up four flights of stairs is a bit of a pain but totally worth it. Overall satisfied!
I was happy with it's cooling capacity. It kept our bedroom cool. We bought the unit 2 years ago and kept it in the box during winter and plugged it up in the spring. 18 months later it stopped working. Thankfully we paid $65 for the 3 year warranty. The repairman told us it would have cost around $300 to repair. The computer chip went out. He said it was common for this product.

Got this unit at a great fall clearance price, but won't be able to report how well it cools until next summer. My installation was through-the-wall and therefore much more complicated than a window install. Overall, I think the quality of this compact AC is about as good as you can expect from the Chinese. The fan is very powerful, hence it's not real quiet even on "Low". But I need strong air circulation for my situation, so I can't complain. It does seem ridiculous that products made for an aging US population have such small print on the onboard and remote controls. The airflow louvers do not allow for directing air downward. But installed at normal window height, it would be inefficient to direct cool air from the unit downward anyway. I will be using an outlet timer on this unit when I'm away for more than a day, so the fact that this AC retains the last settings when the power goes out is a must-have feature for me. I think the auto fan and energy saver features will also be useful. The AC won't be cooling my bedroom, so I won't have any need for the sleep mode. Our hot season is short here, so I'm hoping to get many years of use out of this unit -- we'll see.

We bought this hoping to cool off our downstairs rooms. The layout of the rooms makes this difficult, but we do get some relief. I think the 12,000 BTU might have done more, but this unit was more affordable.

Bought this to replace a 7 year old Frigidaire. Installed easily with the help of another person and runs great. Remote is nice and the unit keeps the bedroom very cool. We also use it to keep our house cool, which it does a fair job it is approx. 1100 sq ft.. We did have to return the original one which was damaged in the box but Sears exchanged it no problems. I should have checked before I left the store as I did notice the box looked a little buckled.
We have had this for 2 weeks now and with the current heat wave it cools our entire main level of a split level home. Use the energy saver. it was easy to install and not very noisy. Definitely a good buy - we got on-line special.
this is the best air conditioner I own. Living in Maine, it gets miserably hot in the summer and no one air conditions hardly, I refuse to live like that. I had a ten year old 8000 and it could never cool as well as this one. When I open the door from the hallway, it's so nice and cool and dry in my place, the hallway is hot and sticky, especially on a 97 degree day like today. It's happening more and more in Maine lately, used to be you'd see maybe 101 every five years. Now it's every summer. While I don't believe at all it's something that's man made, I definitely believe in global warming. It's occurred all throughout history, and this air conditioner will cool a rather large space and very efficiently at that. I've never ever seen an air conditioner that can dehumidify like this one. Water doesn't drip it POURS out this one. I got it for 200 dollars when Sears here was closing down last January. I learned that's the best time to buy one.
This weekend had its tryout. So far, I'm pleased. I rent & had to replace the landlord's 1982 Amana which ate up electric & didn't cool. I've been looking at A/Cs since the fall & kept coming back to this. I ran it 3 days straight & love the sleep feature. I didn't have to turn the TV up and it didn't keep kicking on & off. I keep the remote on the top - I lose everything! Sears installed it for an additional fee but that was okay..This way I know it was done by professionals. I did have to sign a waiver since they drill into the vinyl window (not my house). Since it's on the 1st floor, it would be easy for someone to pull out & walk away with it so it's in securely. They did it in no time, took all the boxes, etc. out, sealed it. They were nice, professional & took the time to explain it to me. I'm still working on the 8 way directional - not what I thought but it cooled my open floor plan fast, I know my electric bill won't be eaten up, Planning on a cool summer!!

I live in a smallish ranch with open concept kit/livingroom. This air conditioner did a great job keeping the whole house comfortable on muggy new england summer days. Very pleased with this product
