Perfect size!
This freezer is exactly what our family of four needed to give us space to take advantage of sale items. We quickly filled it up with reduced-price meats and many quarts of homemade chicken, beef, ham, and turkey broth I've made using the holiday leftovers. Originally I had thought a 5.5 cu. ft. freezer would be okay for our family, but I am very glad I got this 7.5 cu. ft. one instead. It's completely filled now and it holds exactly the right amount for us. The freezer is quiet and has a very small footprint. Although we keep it in our garage, it would be almost unnoticeable in our small kitchen or dining room. I can't even hear it running! Austin, TX is very hot and humid. Add the humidity from the clothes dryer sitting a few feet from this freezer, and I would expect that it would quickly frost up. However, it's been running a month now and has practically no frost in it at all. It's very easy to find things in this upright. I put a couple of baskets in it to help hold the smaller items - everything else stacks up neatly on its shelves. I keep our freezer at minus15 degrees. Everything is rock-solid hard and it freezes very quickly. I would imagine it could stand a power outage of a day without any problems, even in this hot climate.

Unhappy with product
I previously had a Kenmore freezer for twenty years without one single service call. This new freezer is convenient, but I am constantly getting ice crystals in my food and have to throw much of it away. I had a serviceman come, but he said these new freezers are all this way because they no longer have freon in them. He led me to believe there was nothing that could be done. I am very disappointed in this poor product.

Dead from the start

Purchased Tuesday evening March 9th.  Leveled it, plugged it in.  Runs, but won't cool.  Might make a nice clothes closet.  Placed a cup of water in unit.  Left all day while at work.  Came home to find unit running and glass of water was still room temperature.  If not for fee to re-stock I would return it.  Wow.  Kenmore?

Service tech will be out Saturday, March 13th.  I've never had an appliance that was defective right out of the box.  Stay tuned!  In the mean time,  you might try a GE or Frigidare.

Great Freezer, quiet, gets cold, works great

I acquired a quarter of beef (actually a bit more than a quarter) and this freezer holds it very well, gets cold, is easy to move around.  It won't hold a full side of beef, but this small efficient freezer works great for a quarter.  Good product, well done sears, and they had it in stock!  thanks guys!

Worth Every Penny...

I have had this freezer for EIGHT years! I have not had a single problem. Actually came online to look at the current cost as I am considering selling. The size was what attracted me to the product. The house had an average sized area in the laundry room for the washer and dryer - we found that by moving the W/D closer together, this fit perfectly in the space! It is a manual defrost which I have to do about 2 times per year. It is virtually silent.  A highly recommended product.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

We love this freezer!

We ordered this Kenmore freezer after shopping for 3 weeks, reading reviews and looking at efficiency.  This freezer is a perfect second freezer to compliment a refrigerator freezer combo.  Its the right size, runs quiet and the shelving is just the right size.  We are glad we purchased!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

So far, so good

I've had it for about a month.  It's very quiet and its size allows me to keep it in my kitchen.  I will update my review if there are any problems.  I didn't rate it 5 stars because it is not frostfree.

Worked good for 2 years, then died.

I purchased this unit in January 2007. It worked well up until two months ago when the compressor started overheating. It was getting so hot that the paint on the compressor was cooking and you could not touch it.

I went to Sears and they gave me the 1-800-for-my-home. I called them but because I did not get the extended warrantee, I am out of luck. They are sending a tech out tomorrow, but could not give me any estimate on a cost to replace a compressor. If I decide it will not be worth fixing it, I will be charged $75 for the service call.

For only working 2 1/2 years, I am not satisfied. Glad I purchased it on sale. Make sure you get the protection plan.

What I do like is that this freezer is small so it fits anywhere. It is a manual defrost, so you have to shut it down every now and then depending on the humidity, but it's not that bad.  If I had purchased the protection plan I would be happy right now. Live and learn I guess.

Overall a decent little freezer

I bought this freezer to house an 1/8th of beef that I just bought.  I certainly didn't have enough room in my house freezer.  It does the job, and could probably fit a 1/4th of beef if you packed it right (if not all, it would fit 'most' of it).  The only two complaints I have are:

1) you can't pack as much in an upgright as you can a chest freezer of the same cubic size. (this is more for all uprights, not just this one).

2) no auto-defrost (i haven't had this long, but it doesn't seem to be growing too fast that you have to defrost all the time).

all in all, it's a pretty good little freezer.

Very happy

We bought this freezer two months ago and am very happy about it. For CRGirl who is unhappy, I'd take it back to Sears and demand a replacement. Ours came from CR too and have no trouble. It could use a basket in the bottom.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Perfect size

We had just upgraded our old refrigerator (freezer on top model) to a bigger refrigerator with a pull out freezer drawer on the bottom. We were disappointed with the space and ease of use of the new freezer drawer and quickly realized we needed extra freezer space. This freezer just fits in our garage and feels much roomier than the freezer drawer in our fridge (which is also 7.5 cu ft). It's quiet and so far is working great. The only thing I wish it had was auto defrost. We haven't had to do a manual defrost yet, but I'm assuming we shouldn't have to do it more than once or twice a year.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Little Freezer!

I've owned this just over 2 months now and couldn't be happier. The small freezer compartment in my bottom-freezer refrigerator just didn't have enough space, even for just the 2 of us. I love the fact that it is a frost-forming model. The frost provides moisture and delays freezer burn from forming which means my food will last longer, unlike frost-free freezers. It will probably only need defrosting a couple of times a year at most. I love the low profile, even though the bottom shelf is only inches from ground level, but it doesn't stand so high that it blocks the window it's near and almost disappears into the room in which it sits. Would buy again in a heartbeat!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Perfect for slightly increasing freezing space

The thing I like about this model is that it is perfect if you don't want to have a "normal" size stand up freezer. Our goal was to reduce the total amount of space our former spare refrigerator took up but increase the amount of freezer space that we needed. This fit the bill perfectly. Another plus is that it runs quietly (compared to our old fridge that was rather noisy, so I could be biased in that opinion). The one disadvantage (for some) is that it is not a frostless freezer. But we were not looking for that anyway as those tend to dry out bread that we sometimes store in one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

5 stars

I love this little freezer, it is great for a small home or appartment. I also love the fact that it is a stand up model, it is so easy finding your food in this freezer than digging in a small deep freezer. I gave it a 5 star rating, but I do wish it was self defrosting.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good little freezer

I have owned this freezer for 2 1/2 years. I bought it to store my dogs' homemade food, and also use it for bulky items. It is the perfect size, and better than a chest freezer where you have to dig around and remove a bunch of stuff before finding what you need. Like another reviewer, the hinge on mine broke, although mine was the bottom hinge. I am glad to hear the part is cheap, and will be calling today. This freezer does not have an auto defrost, so you do have to defrost it manually on occasion, 2 - 4 times a year depending on how much the frost bothers you.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I like it!

I've owned this product for almost 1 year. Have a no problems or issues and I consider that a value :) I would always shop for the best value at sears and was raised on kenmore products and still trust them. This is a great upright freezer that not only does what it's suppose to but looks great too!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Happy with purchase

I have had this unit for about 2 months. This small freezer is compact and just the right size for my family of 3. It handles the overflow of my bulk grocery shopping. And, will certainly come in handy for those few times during the year when we have huge family dinners and need the extra freezer space. I am happy with this purchase.

I've had this product for two years...

We've had this product for about two years and we are making our first repair. The repair that we are making is replacing the top hinge for the door. I don't know if we slammed something heavy on it or what, but it's plastic. It at first cracked and now the hinge is broken in half. Today I called the customer service number to get the part, and it was one of the most pleasant experiences that I have had with a customer service rep.!! The part is easy to install and costs about $5. Otherwise, the freezer has served me and my husband well. We can fit a ton of food in it and it is the perfect hight to have our microwave on top of it. We should defrost it ever six months, but we still have yet to defrost it and it still runs great...although we do have some ice buildup on the top shelf. We fit our turkeys, frozen dinners, ice cream, frozen veggies, and more in it. It is a great thing to have when you want to get some things on sale...like those turkeys that the supermarkets give out before Thanksgiving after a certain amount of purchases. We liked our freezer so much that we got my parents one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not like Kenmore!

I bought this freezer in July and have had to have it replaced once and am about to do so a second time. The first time it did not cool at all. Customer service was kinda tardy but it was eventually replaced. The second one has worked for about two-and-a-half weeks! The technician said a valve or something was leaking. Repairs have not worked. Some improvement! I've just about given up on this model. No value for money here!
