Great bagger
Very quick and easy to assemble. I just got done mowing for the first time this season. My yard had some leaves left over from last fall. The leaves and grass clippings fell nicely into the bins. As described, the left most bin fills first, then the middle, and finally the right most bin fills last. Extremely easy to remove the bags and empty them!

If I had rated this a year ago...
If I had rated this a year ago, after using the bagger for a month or so, I probably would have rated it as 4 stars. After having used it for a year I can only give this product 1 star. My first hint should have been when I had to have it delivered 3 times as the first two came with cracked tops. The catcher does fill from left to right as each bag fills. After time, the weight of the left bag has caused the left support pole to bend out. The support bars are not a heavy enough gauge to support the weight of full bags. This makes the catcher sit uneven with the left bag hanging lower. This has had several negative effects. First, the bag hits the ground when I go through even a gradual dip in the yard. This causes the bag to bottom out and be lifted off of the support bars and onto the ground spilling half of the bag on the lawn. Because the assembly is leaning down, the support bars are also leaning down which will also allow the bag to fall off. I had to use bungee cords attached to the bag handles to keep them from slipping. This also adds additional time to dumping. Even with the bungee cords holding the bags, I am constantly reaching back to pull the bags back into place. Finally, I noticed that a crack had started to form in the hard shell next to one of the hinges. As I was cutting last week, the entire shell cracked in half and the bagger fell apart completely. Other than these problems, it's been great. One other thing worth mentioning, I have a craftsman 42 deck with 22 horsepower. I would recommend only getting a bagger if you have a minimum of 22 HP. I don't think that a smaller engine would be very effective at pulling the grass into the catcher when it is high or damp. For $450 to replace this item, I think that I'll be going back to mulching.

Outrageous

A price of $359 for formed plastic is just nuts! The gasket for the tubes running into the bagger is weak and produces blow-back. Be prepared to be the dirtiest lawn person on your block after a year or two. WAAAY overpriced!

Triple bagger

I've been using the same 3 bagger on my yard tractor for 10 years. I have to say that the earlier model was more flexible the newer version than the newer version. The newer model cover cracks way to easy. So I went back to my older model cover. It doesn't break like the newer one. I changed my bags to the mesh bags. They seem to work a lot better than the plastic bags that came with the attachment.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Didn't last 1 year before arm kept falling off

Bagger worked just great at first. Then it started to fall off the side clips late in the first season I had it. Then the next season, it was so bad I had to abandon using it altogether. Everytime I try to reattach it to the side, it both barely fits, and then falls off after 2-10 minutes of normal use. Keep in mind, this is after using it without issue for the first few months, so all was attached and working just fine initially. I am not sure what changed/broke on the bagger, only that it refuses to stay attached, even with modification.

They must have made improvements

This review is for the 42" 3 bin, not the 42-46 hybrid. I was hesitant to buy this due to some of the bad reviews but went ahead anyway. I have to say I have zero of the problems others have had. I was amazed how easy it was to install and remove when not in use. I don't see how the bins could fall off but would note that the instructions specifically state to load from the left to the right for proper bin overlap. Yea the bins fill from left to right but when you open it, at least the overflow can be rolled into the right bin before dumping. Not going to avoid this situation with any bagger system. There are 2 different mounting instructions to the mower deck. Mine was easy, the other involves an extra plate that comes with the unit. I am just using the original blades and the bagger works fine. It should go without saying not to try and bag wet grass or yes you will have clogging problems. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this product to anyone.

Leaf clean-up

Did what it was supposed to do. Glad to have more capacity than the two bagger. Fit much better on the deck than my old one. Nothing exceptional, but nothing to complain about so far. (Except price was a little high, even on sale.) $84 for delivery is rediculous, so we had to drive 30 mi. to pick it up.

A Great bagger system

My bagger is for a 46" deck. It does a great job sucking up all leaves and grass clippings. The connections from the deck to the bin have no openings for grass and leaves to fall back on the lawn. The blades do not blow leaves away before the deck goes over them. My old rider would blow some leaves away before being driven over.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

9 Bushell 3-BinSoft Bagger for 42" deck.

I am very happy with the purchase. It was well worth the money even though I paid more than the currently advertised price. I had this bagger attached to my riding mower for me by a friend. I was told it was easy to do (he was not an expert so he was happy it went well). The bags filled very quickly (my grass was long and loaded with leaves). The 3 BinSoft Bagger is going to save a lot of backbreaking hours of raking leaves & grass as I have almost an 1/2 acre of land.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The craftsman bagger makes big lawn jobs easy.

This bagger was easy to install on my craftsman lawn tractor. It took only about 15 minutes to assemble and attach to the tractor. It made clearing my lawn of leaves a much simpler job although it did fill up quickly. It is easy to dump and start again. I like the fact that each bag removes seperately. It does get clogged when you over fill it but was easy to clear and easy to figure out how not to over fill it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

3 Bin Soft Bagger for 42 inch deck

Love this thing. I have an acre lot and have raked and bagged leafs for years. The bagger works great, I haven't had problems with it clogging up or anything. It does fill up fast, but sure beats raking.

Poor Quality product

This is the first Craftsman product that has been disappointing

  • the nuts and bolts keep snapping out of their fixtures.
  • The Bagger stitching (where plastic meets the "bag") ripped and one of the bags is useless.

I orderened this product in Fall of 2009.  I must have used the bagger less than 5 times over the year (summer 2010) before the problems started and when I called in Fall of 2010 (a few days over the 1 year warranty.  with the problems - I got no help. So I ended up spending on getting new nuts/bolts and other parts.

Now this summer (2011) the bag stitching has come off. Now I have to order a new bag.

I'd recommend doing some research on other options if possible.

Good product but beware of bin falling through supports.

My brother works for Sears and recommended this product. I am very happy that I purchased the 3 bin vs. the 2 bin. I don't have to empty as often. My brother says that most people that buy the 2 bin always wish they had bought the 3 bin. However, there is one down fall to this product. Looking from the back, the left bin fills up first. Therefore, this bin is the heaviest and falls through the supports. The bin will then dump lawn clippings all over your lawn. I read another review about this problem before purchased this product and indeed, it is a problem. I did two things to rectifiy the problem. I load the bins from right to left instead of left to right (like the directions tell you to do.) Second, I put a long strip of velcro on each side of the left bin. These two things create more friction and prevent that bin from falling through. Since I have done this, the bin has not fallen through. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the product. It works well and is easy to assemble/disassemble. However, I shouldn't have to put velcro on the bin to prevent them falling through. Sears should come up with a more robust design.

easy assembly, easy to use, convienient 3 bushel bags

Easy to assemble, all hardware included. Took less than ten minutes to mount on the mower.

Bins are plastic and easily washed, The total capacity of the bins combined is nine bushels but are separated into three easy to manage interchangeable compartments.

The pickup tube from the mower deck is two separate pieces that fit together easily into the bagger housing.

Only two problems in the whole thing is the bolts that hold the pickup tube elastic bands to the ejection port are reinforced with small washers and are easily pulled through the plastic if you accidentally hook something. I changed the washers to one inch washers to beef it up against pull through. The other minor problem is the red fill indicator stopped working after two, three hundred foot passes. It would be nice to have a way to fix it but I noticed the grass falls out of the bagger when it is full.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Don't waste you money on this one!

I've had this bagger now for 3 years and have had nothing but trouble with it. The only time it will pickup clippings is when the grass is bone dry and already short before cutting. If the grass is in the least bit wet or long, forget it. I have to cut my lawn, and then go over it a second time to pick up the clippings. Even then it still leaves at least 1/3 of the clippings on the lawn I think my craftsman mower is great, but the bagger is a big waste of money and and time. Don't waste yours with this product!!!

I saved days raking and hauling leaves.

Best money I ever spent.  I had read the reviews before I purchased and was a little worried about the bags not all filling so I wasn't surprised when it happened.  However, I found the solution.  Let the bagger fill and keep mowing so the leaves are muclched.  Once the yard is done empty the bagger and go back over the yard.  The mulched leaves pack evenly and allow you to fill the entire compartment.  You'll make less trips dumping the bags and get at least 12 bushels each haul because everything packs so well.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Why did we wait so long to buy one?

We were very pleased with this product. It was easy to install and easier to use. It only took us 15 minutes to install and all we needed was a 9/16ths wrench. Removing the original bolts from the mower and putting in the shoulder bolts was kind of a tight squeeze between the bolts and the rear tires, so my ratchet didn't work, but a flat wrench worked just fine. The primary reason we purchased this bagger was to pick up leaves since our house is completely surrounded by maples and oaks. The biggest challenge was knowing when to empty the bags, which really was dependent upon how many leaves were on the ground. If you waited too long to empty it, the tube would get clogged, so you'd have to turn the mower off and unclog it. It was easy to do, but just took a couple extra minutes. You could tell when it clogged because it left a trail of mulched leaves, but after a few rounds around the yard we figured out how often to empty it and it saved a lot of back breaking raking. We found it was best to have two people cleaning up the yard because everytime the person on the mower got off to empty the bags you'd have to turn the mower off or else the kill switch under the seat shut it off for you. So as not to wear out the starter we let one person stay on the seat while the other emptied the bags. Next fall we'll be sure not to wait as long so the bags won't fill up as fast. We originally considered buying the unit with the hard sided bins, but found the soft sided bags worked great. Frankly, I think the soft sided bags are better because they expand as they fill up and they are light weight. Even our seven-year-old could empty them. I don't know why we didn't get one sooner.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great capacity and easy removal for tow-behind accessories

I bought this bagger for my new PYT 24hp 42" tractor.  The 46 inch width does not interfere with close work except for one sign post in the yard.  I just stay back a bit and use the weed trimmer.  I'm happy I decided to go with the 3-bag unit.  The stock blades that came with the tractor provide ample "lift" to fill all 3 bags.  The one to the left fills first, followed by the center, then the right.  Not sure if the latching system on the overhead cover will hold over time, so I will monitor this closely.  If the cover is not fully latched, the grass clippings will blow out over the bags.  I love the dual handles on each of the bags, and this makes for very easy removal and emptying.  The bags go on, and come off with little effort.  Make sure to clean the exhaust vents each time you empty the bags.  There is some blow-by around the main seal if the vents get clogged.  The little red wheel that is supposed to let you know when the bagger is full is not a big help so just feel the bags from time to time, or wait until you see it is not picking up the clippings.  All in all, I am very happy with the bagger when compared to more expensive options.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nice but not Perfect

Second bagger unit I have owned. Upside: (1) 3 bags and third bag is gettig filled. (2) Has not clogged on me yet. Downside: (1) Frame attachment came with hitch pin welded to bottom of frame, which then goes through tractor frame. This is no good. Too attach a dump cart, this would require me to remove bagger frame from tractor! I removed welded hitch pin and replaced with regular old hitch pin. Now I can keep bagger frame on tractor and easily attach dump cart. No idea why Sears has hitch pin welded to bottom of bagger frame. (2)No problem yet, but suspect plastic frame around catch bags going to split for break over time. Wish bag frame had been metal. (3) Bags are a little small in my opinion. Was disappointed in their length but guess helps keep full bag weight down. Good overall although never understand how this plastic devices cost so much money. Crazy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
