Excellent option in Hydrostatic transmission
This is the best/cheapest yard tractor in the market now for multi-tasking. After a lot of research I purchased this and I am very happy about it.

A decent tractor, but could be better
I had been using an LT2000 the past 7 years with a 20Hp, 2 cyl B/S engine and wish I'd still had it, but it was lost to fire. This was my replacement and it definitely has a rougher ride when I thought that I was buying a step up. That one is restricted to a single cylinder until you get up to 24Hp needs to be looked at as these high-Hp one-lungers do vibrate. Also, whomever designed this with the battery directly over the axle (where maximum shock occurs) and with the gas tank next to the engine under the cowling (where I had my fire) needs to find a new line of work.

I bought the 917.288620 46" 21hp electric start riding tractor in 2011. When I got it home it would not start. Called sears, they got it to start. In the 2 years it was repaired 4 times, the minute the coverage ended, went to start up, won't start. I have a 15 year old craftsman that starts everytime, but the newer one is not the tractor that the old one is. Sears won't do anything about it. Sears used to be dependable, but what happeded. I guess return customers mean nothing to them. I will not buy another tractor from them. Oh I also bought a extended coverage.

Better than most

is this tractor perfect,no,but for the money it is the best value u can get. The hydrostatic works flawlessly, makes mowing a pleasure, the deck cuts very well, lawn looks great, turning radius makes cutting around obstacles much easier, the Briggs platinum motor starts and runs great, does vibrate some when blades engaged, safety switches are a pain but are there for a reason, mows in reverse, hood flops around, secured with industrial velcro, works great, unfortunately a few reviewers have had problems, and have said this craftsman tractor is junk and have given this item a negative review, and i guess unstanderably so when spending $$$ and the product does not provide the service it should, however this is true with all products,TVs washing machines etc, in closing i guess u could take 4K and visit your nearest Kubota dealer in hopes of buying the perfect man made piece of machinery guaranteed to be defect free, but for $2500 less the Craftsman/Husqvarna made tractor is best bang for the buck!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good Tractor, poor mower

We (my neighbor & I share) are in our 2nd season with this machine. As far as the tractor, it has plenty of power, comfortable to operate, and easy to maintain. It negotiates hills as long as you mow when dry and use common sense. The mower is another matter. We ordered with a mulching kit. The chute cover is supposed to installed with the deck flap on, however, for storage we installed it without the flap. The cover is held on with bungi cords and does not provide a seal, so grass blows up through the crack (duct tape to the rescue). What I find irritating is that when mowing, grass blows out from under the deck towards the right front tire. When dry and windy you will be covered with grass and dust. This condition also results in an inordinate amount of grass collecting on top of the mower deck. Lastly, the right blade does not cut well, have sharpened the blade and leveled deck to no avail. Must overlap by 1/2 per pass so essentially has become a 21" rider.

Piece of junk! Engine died at 2 years 2 weeks. Warranty Nope!

I purchased a 2010 Craftsman YT 3000 yard tractor with this engine. Ran ok. Then two years and 2 weeks went by and it would not start after just starting it. Too much compression. By the way its not under warranty by 2 weeks. I read about others with compression problems and most point to valves needing adjustment. I checked the valve settings and all was good. Sent it to a local repair guy and he found that the comperssion release on the cam was shattered and in peaces inside the crank case. He had to replace the cam shaft because the part that broke is part of the cam. Now 4 month later the same problem as come up again. Replaced the cam again. Now a week after replacing the second cam the high compression is happening at speratic times.
This is the biggest piece of junk! I dread the day I ever walked in to Sears! I called Briggs and Stratton about the first problem and they never got back to me. And I called Sears and they told me I was 2 weeks too late for warranty help. I don't know if its a design flaw or just my engine. I will never buy another Briggs and Stratton engine again.

The mechanic said he has done many of these repairs so that leads me to think it a design flaw. Most likely will repair and sell and buy a Kohler Engine!
B & S 2 year warranty, they know how long they last! All most to the day!

Also my seat cracked after one year and sears said it was not under warranty. I thought it was 2 years on the mower and 10 years on the frame. Guess not.

CRAFTSMAN STATES
"The Craftsman Exclusive Platinum Series? engines are available exclusively on select Craftsman tractors. Qualified to 25% longer life, created for medium to heavy-duty use, they feature automotive-style lubrication that protects and cools critical engine components - even on uneven terrain and under heavy loads."

SO I guess other engines only last 1.5 years if you go by what my engine lasted!

Cons- Noisy, junk, unreliable, b & s know when they die, maybe needs to be a twin.

My Crafstman YT 3000 42" riding mower is awesome!

My son and I bought this mower refurbished from a Sears Outlet store, found it online and drove about forty minutes to the store. I know you're not supposed to but, we mow seven lawns, (helps my son save for a car), and this mower has been trouble-free! I'd buy it again in a heartbeat!

A very nice mower

The Craftsman YT 3000 42" Briggs & Stratton 21 hp Gas Powered Riding Lawn Tractor is a very nice lawn mower/tractor. The seat is extremely comfortable, so you won't mind the hours on the tractor you'll spend with this cleaning up your lawn. Not to mention that, but this lawn tractor is also very reliable. My last two lawn tractors broke down a lot but not this one! I can see myself using this tractor for years to come. But not just that, it also has a cup holder built into it! That's always a nice feature in a mower, and lets you enjoy a drink with your quite, comfortable mowing. Even though the price is a bit steep, would you rather have a good, comfortable, mower with cup holder goodness, or a cheap one that breaks down a lot? I'd go with this. If you're looking for an awesome lawn tractor, you might want to seriously consider this one for sure.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Lawn Tractor

My wife purchased one of these products about 7 years ago for our anniversary: she got tired of watching me use a push mower. In all of this time, I have not done anything to it but change the oil, regularly, change the blades once, and change the batteries twice. This is an aweome piece of equipment, which I highly recommend to all my friends. Craftsman is awesome and tough.

Great Product YT 3000 Lawn Tractor

This is a great lawn tractor and seems to have all the power needed. Have just over an acre of land and have had for two seasons now. Have also bought and used a tow behind roller that it handles with out any problems. Would highly recommend this to anyone that has a yard that is too large for just a push mower. This also seems to have a fairly tight turning radius. My property is mostly flat, but does have a few up hill grades that this has no prolem with.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Real workhorse

I bought my YT3000 and picked it up at my local Sears store filled it up with gas and started right up the reverse mow feature is very handy. I had alittle trouble going up a hill I think the problem was with getting traction on wet thick grass I will update after I try on dryer grass. The ride is rather smooth at mowing speeds if you put it in 5th or 6th gear going across the grass you will get bounced some. The turning radius on the tractor is about as close as you can get to a zero turn without the cost of one. I also noticed while looking over the tractor that it is made by Husqvarna. So far it has been an outstanding tractor I look forward to mowing now seems to be rather easy on gas too with gas prices going up that is good I have mowed about 5 or 6 acres on less than 4 gallons of gas. I will update after I work this tractor some more. By the way some of the grass I mowed was up to the rear fenders and wet so it was not easy mowing for it at all.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman YT 3000 42

I purchased this machine on a mark down at sears. The price was right saving 35% from the list. It really cut down time cutting from 1.5 hrs to half. I noticed the automatic trans which I like. Gas cap is problematic with vapor lock causing hard starts after long period of use.

A lawn tractor that does the job

I just purchased this at my local store, it arrived on time and looked fantastic when they took it off the truck. Start up was very quick and everything worked as it should. It pulls a loaded utility trailer full of wood around my yard with out an issue. I had the mulching blade kit put in when I ordered it but haven't had a chance to run them yet. Overall I am very impressed with this mower.

Great Value

This is a great mower.  I have used mine for about 1 year now and have not had any problems with it.  This mower has a great turning radius around flower beds and other obstacle's in my yard.  The only con to this mower is  the blade switch in the seat is too sensitive, when i try to shift my weight to mow on some inclines it turns the blades off.  Overall this is a great value for your money and I would recommend this product.

The Craftsman Lawn Tracktor is reliable and does the job!

I used my Craftsman YT 3000 42" Briggs & Stratton 21 hp Gas Powered Riding Lawn Tractor for the first time and it went great.  I live in New England and got it just in time to pick up leaves with the bag attachment.  It worked well and I look forward to using it next summer to mulch the grass.  Installing the bag attachment was easy.

Craftsman YT3000 is reliable and easy to use

I bought this YT3000 a year ago and I am impressed.  I checked other reviewed on several before deciding on this model and it was a great choice.  Easy to use, takes corners well even though it's not a zero turn, great feature set, and it's been reliable. Just follow the maintenance instructions and it will do well for you. Only thing I don't like so far is after installing the mulching blade, it does mulch well but it has trouble with the grass coming through the discharge chute and fills the mower deck.

Sears was great for this order, provided a good discount and they were offering free shipping at that time. Way to go Sears on such excellent customer service for us as well. The delivery drivers also were great, showing me the features and making sure it worked before they left. Excellent!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This bad boy can hold up to the urban lawn environment!

This tractor was my first purchase of a new lawn mower, so I was overly critical on my final choice. I looked at *********** and Husquvarnas previously, but the price & feature comparisons of the YT 3000 kept bringing me back. I talked with at least two local lawn repair people (one of who I trust wholy), and he said that there was no difference between ************ simliar model and the YT 3000--except price (the Deere was significantly more expensive). This was September 2009.

In the end, the YT 3000 had everything I needed and the price was right. I also ordered the plow attachment as well and mulching kit. Sears ordered and delivered the tractor & parts promptly, and in only a few minutes I was making my maiden voyage, cutting grass with ease.

A little about my yard: I live in a urban area on a 3/4 acre chunck of land in the city. I have a large slope on one side of my house, and at least 20 trees and bushes that dot the property. Additionally, my yard is mostly dry, but there is at least one 10-foot-square section that can get pretty sloppy when there's a lot of rain. Lastly, I have a small, paved driveway, about 20 feet wide and 40 feet wide. This is what I bought the plow for.

It is now June 2011, and I've used the tractor consistently for both mowing and plowing for the past 1.5 years. I have only had one problem with it, that was of my own doing...I left the key in the ignition and the battery died. So TIP: REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION! Other than that, I've never had a single problem with the tractor. It's only stalled on me once when I ran over a large dog toy. It powers through the thickest & wettest of grass, even with the mulching kit. This mower also corners and turns on a dime...a very important feature for me since I have a lot of trees & bushes to mow around. I've never been stuck with this tractor, either. It cuts along my sloped hill just fine with no problems. I'm very, very happy with it..

In winter, I was able to plow my entire driveway AFTER I bought the wheel weights and chains. The chains help, but the wheel weights make all the difference in the world. So if you plan on moving snow with this thing, get the chains & wheel weights. I never got stuck after moving snow in my driveway--even heavy, wet Wisconson snow. I can push all the snow to the end of my driveway, and then push the row off of the alley as well. It does a good job. Another tip: don't expect this thing to be able to plow back snowbanks...there's just no torque there for this. But if you want to clear a driveway, this will work for you.

I also just recently did my own service work on my tractor, including changing the oil and air filter. Both are easily accomplished. The oil change took 15 minutes, and the filter took about 5 minutes. Everything is easily accessible. Taking the mower deck off and removing the blades is an easy, single-person job, too. You can pretty much service any part of this tractor by yourself and the manual.

My neighbor has seen me on my YT 3000, asked me about it (and I recommended it), and also recently purchased one (he was still using a push mower for his large yard). He's also happy with his decision and is looking forward to moving snow with it as well.

In all honesty, I have zero complaints about this lawn tractor. I'm happy with the price I paid and the features I have. I can put a snow plow on it, or I can haul a dump trailer with it if I want (something I'm contemplating). The tractor is easily serviceable and has all the features I need (the wheel weights go on in about 2 minutes, compared to smaller models where you have to drill holes in the wheel wells!). I've recommended this tractor to two people already, and I'll continue to recommend it to more. If you take care of your tractor (cleaning it and servicing it regularily), I don't see any reason why this tractor won't last for many years.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
