Excellent
I purchased this mower two years prior to Katrina and it still starts on aleast the second pull when primed first. I didn't buy the warranty because the Sears store was closing the service department for return items prior to the storm and didn't want to travel the distance to another sears store. I have changed the oil every season and sparkplug and it runs great no smoking. I don't use the bagger since it gets heavy when almost full even with the big rear wheels and my lawn is thick but not to big. I originally purchased this as a cutter around my flower bed where my 42 inch craftsman riding mower could not reach and after the storm I used it primarily as the only cutting tool. I have replace my riding mower but every other cutting I use this for the clean cut no lines as a riding mower leave and for the excerise. Works great on my lawn since the terrain has divets that riding mowers don't expose since you're on them. Simple lawn mower maintence like change oil each season and check the oil prior to each use and take air filter off when dirty and you wouldn't have any problem. Any gasoline engine will require maintence regardless of the brand or cost. These are simple things that only require a screwdrive to take off air filter and a ratchet to drain the oil and replace the spark plug. Started right up after the storm and still runs great after 6 years of service for sale of $199.00 best I have owned. No problem with wheels even after dropping off pick up bed to street.

Don't waste your money - warranty is worthless!!

I operated my mower for approximately 1 1/2 years without any problems. I live in a residential neighborhood and I mow a flat yard with no obstructions. While mowing the center of my front yard my mower made a loud banging sound and began leaking oil. I immediately shut the mower down and determined that it was inoperable. I took my mower to the local SEARS Service Center to have it repaired and learned that my mower was still under warranty. Two of the SEARS employees indicated that a number of customers had brought craftsman mowers in for repairs to the Briggs and Stratton engines.

Approximately 6 days later SEARS contacted me and indicated that mowers briggs and stratton engine had a hole in its engine wall that was caused by an impact. I was told that an engine replacement would cost $218. Since a new mower with similar features cost approximately $229, I declined the generous offer. I can assure you that my lawn is the only thing the mower blade came in contact with. I keep my mower blade set at the highest level and I don't have any obstructions in my yard.

This was the 4th craftsman mower I have purchased and it will be my last! The comments made by the SEARS employees concerning the quality of the Briggs and Stratton engines lead me to believe that my experience was not uncommon.

I would rate this mower less than poor if that was an option!

Horse beat it and it still runs and cuts

I bought this mower in Albuquerque.  Our grass there really didn't require a strong mower or anything like that. This mower worked great.  A year later, I live in FL where the grass grows like mad and guess what?  The mower is still plugging away. I believe I have owned his mower close to 2 years.  I never changed the oil, plug, filters or anything like that and I still used it last Wednesday. It is a great mower IMO. It starts up right away and it cuts clean. I'm having it serviced this week by my maintenance guy at work and he assured me it will be ready to beat some more. I have a half acre lot and have no problems. Use the bagger and get some exercise while I make our yard look great.

The Craftsman Rear Bag High Wheels Push Mower is great

I bought one of these to do trimming in tight places and along embankments.  These mowers are not as heavy duty as some of the Craftsman products but I wanted a lightweight mower that would be easy to mow up and down a hilly yard.  A lightweight mower is not as tiring to use as a heavy push mower.  The engine is easy to start and it has worked well so far.  I used heavy duty self-propelled Craftsman mowers on our yard for years and have been worn out from pulling them up the embankments.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I like this mower, but if you're getting it for the "mulching"..

This mower has plenty of power and maneuvers well, but the "mulching" effect leaves something to be desired. One of the reasons I selected this model was that you could supposedly "mulch" the grass without using the bag. This hasn't been the case. If the grass is even a little long, it collects under the mower and bogs it down. You have to lift the front of the mower to let it shoot out. So instead of the rows of dried out cut grass I was trying to avoid, I have clumps of cut grass randomly spread over the thicker part of the lawn. Yikes! If I use it with the chute, like a "regular" mower, it works fine.

Great Mower

I got this mower about a year ago to replace a piece of **** mower from murray and i must say this is the best mower i have ever owned/used. Put oil and gas in it primed it 3 times started first pull no problems. The engine runs great! Is very good on gas for not being OHV and it has A LOT of power for a flat head engine. It cuts great and the blade that is supplyed is great quality, i've hit many sticks and some rocks and there is still no dents on the blade. The high wheel makes pushing this mower a sinch. The bag is white witch is kind of dumb because it will soon turn black, but wash it out every so offten and its good to go, the opening in the bag is huge so all the clippings just slide out with out having to shake the **** out of the bag to get them out witch is great. Side discharge is an added plus making it easy to cut tall grass. This is one dependable mower and to this day the mower has started 1st pull everytime and has not givien me any trouble. Like i say if it dosen't have a Briggs and Stratton engine DON'T buy it. Many say Honda is better then Briggs but their not, If you take care of your engine then your enigne will take care of you, and every Honda i've ever owned never started 1st pull even after being washed down with water the Briggs still started 1st pull. This is a great mower, The high wheels make it very easy to push, the reliable Briggs and Stratton engine, make this one great mower that any home owner would LOVE!

Crafstman mower is junk and service is worse

I bought this mower in July of 2009 used it maybe 10 times or so on a 1/8 of an acre property and the first time I used it this year the baffle that surrounds the blade under the deck broke off and the blade bent it. Now please understand that I didnt hit anything Or misuse it in any way, even if I did I would expect it to stand up better than that. I would not have a problem with this if Sears would have fixed it but instead the were trying to charge me $175.00 to fix it, I only paid $200.00 for the mower. After getting the run around there has still been no solution. My little Boleen mower from another store lasted about ten times as long and that one sat out in the rain and other weather. Sears has lost me as a customer forever.

Craftsman Push Rear Bag Lawn Mower w/High Wheel needs more power

I put the oil and gas in it, gave it three primes and it started on the first pull.  This model is just like the Sears mower I have had for 25 years.  I destroyed it when I hit a rock.  I was hoping the new one would be just like the old one.  My only regret is that I did not get a larger engine.  This one cannot handle heavy grass, I have to go slow.  Otherwise it is a great machine.

good value

Only used this mower 5-6 times so far, but I'm happy with it for the price.  Starts easy every time and runs fine.  Only complaint is that the gas cap has vibrated off at least once each mowing.  I wonder how many tenths of a cent they saved by re-designing the gas cap.

good mower but with one bad design

I have had this mower for about three months and over all I am happy with this mower.  It starts one the first pull and cuts well.  I only use it to mulch with.  The one thing I wish that they had done diffidently is to make the seals tighter around the openings.   They allow for a large amount of dust to get in to the air filter.  After only 4 uses it was running very poorly.  I checked the air-filter and found it to be complete clogged.  After removing and cleaning it worked fine again.  You will pretty much need to clean after every use.

This Mower Rocks!

The first and best thing about this whole deal is purchasing online and picking up at the store.  I waited less than 5min.  I even got a text message on my phone letting me know that my mower was ready for pickup.  Fantastic customer service.

As for the mower, I love how easily it starts and the power is more than ample for the cutting I do.  Glad I chose a craftsman this time around.  Seemed a good value too compared to ********** and *****.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Poor quality - not what I would expect of a Craftsman

I bought this lawnmower last year halfway through the season.  Now one year later, it won't start easily and vibrates excessively.  I've cleaned under the deck, made sure nothing is loose on the mounting and checked the blade to confim it is balanced, and it still vibrates like a jackhammer.   It cuts unevenly and only operates at higher wheel settings.  I could take it to a shop, but frankly it's not worth the money to fix it.

disgusted due to grass blowing back up on to deck

I bought this lawnmower 8.29.09 and really like how easily it mows and how quiet the engine runs.  It started on the first pull which is also great.  I almost always mulch and to my disappointment this mower blows a lot of grass back up onto the deck from the back where the built-in mulcher is and also from above the side discharger.  I will check to see if there is one that has the guard for the mulcher.  This is very disappointing to me as I have to stop and clean it off all the time.  I have allergies and this is very rough on them.  I plan to return it tomorrow.

I don't get it - or, am I doing something wrong?

Maybe its me - am I doing something wrong???

I bought this nice new mower - started & sounded great.  But, I noticed that debris was blowing on to the engine from a gap between the plastic (lame) cover of the side discharge.  Huh??  I have used this mower once & its covered with dirt and pieces of grass....  (I live in the southwest and our lawns tend to have more dust than the lush green lawns found in other parts of the country.)

I don't know how long it will be before the debris clogs the air filter & causes general havoc to the motor.

The other item, although not as much of a concern, is that the cross piece of the handle doesn't allow you to hook up the bag without letting go of it and then regrabbing it between the cross piece & the plastic (lame) rear discharge of the mower.

My last mower, a Craftman, lasted over 10 years before the engive finally died.  I'm considering having it repaired & taking the new one back.

Flimsy Piece of Junk !!

Am EXTREMELY dissappointed with Craftsman.

Have been using Craftsman for years, USED to be good products

This Mower is an utter dissappointment !

It has a nice powerful engine, therefore it gets 1 star .

When you push down on handle to turn , deck is so thin you can see it bow.

Wheels are flimsy and bow out under it's own weight even without bagger.

Adjusters are so flimsy the jump out of position , if you cut a 75' X 150' lawn,

you have to readjust 6 or seven times.

I would NOT recommend this Mower to anyone

And I have purchased my last Craftsman Mower unless they return to previous Quality

Excellent Power Mower #071389020

My 1991 Sears mower came to the end of its useful life this summer so a quick on-line search ensued for a replacement.  The new mower was supposed to supplement my riding mower (also Sears) on a property of just less than an acre.  Ordered on-line and picked up the same day.  Mower was already assembled and only had to secure the handles plus add oil and gas.  Primed the engine according to instructions and it started on the first pull right out of the box.  Purchased the rear high wheel model and I will never go back to the smaller wheels.  Effortless to push around the yard and I am now mowing the entire front of our home with this mower and relegating the riding tractor for the rear.  Gives a nice even distribution on discharge of clippings but even more impressive as a mulcher.  I have yet to use the bagging system but will try it in the Fall.  The mower had continued to start on the first pull, which in itself is very impressive.  I was concerned as this mower does not have an engine speed switch.  The manual says the speed is set at the factory for optimal performance and emission control.  Thought this might present a problem but it has not.  It has performed very well in extremely tall grass as well as short.  Time will tell about overall quality as longevity is more important than first impressions, but I am very satisfied during the first two months.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good warranty

Sears does a great job w/their warranty- in the 2.5 years I have owned this mower, I believe I have had it serviced 5 times, all on their dime. I have always maintained a clean air filter, fresh gas & oil, but have to get it serviced a couple times a season because it quits starting. The time before last, they rebuilt the entire block and I was back w/in 4 months because it wouldn't start AGAIN. I have always used Craftsman mower, trimmers and tools and appreciate how they honor their warranty. Maybe I just ended up w/a lemon- looks like most other reviews are decent. However, I am so fed up w/dealing w/this mower, I will be trying a new brand soon.

Quality mower for the money

I purchased this mower in July 09, it replaced a new one that I bought a Wal mart that ran only once and never started again. Not Wal marts fault just a poor workmanship. Got this mower home, hardly no assimbly require, after putting oil and gas it and two pumps on the primer it started right up, runs very smooth. The wife and I like the big back wheels make it easy to push and I think moore control on slopes. Have use it several time and it has not missed starting yet, two pump on the primer and one pull, that all. I really did not want the one with the grass catcher, so I use it with out. Overall good quality that one would expect from Sears. I did purchase the extented warrenty that I hope will not need.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
