Worked for fifteen seconds

I had intended on using this pressure washer to clean some vinyl siding on my house and to clean my patio before sealing it.  I was all ready to spend the afternoon catching up on some much needed chores. I read the instructions before setting it up to make sure that I didn't do anything that might cause the pressure washer to overheat or run dry. Following the instructions, I proceeded to spray my house for 15 seconds. I released the trigger and the motor cut out completely. I checked the plug, kept the water on, and waited for hours for the unit to reset (assuming that it had tripped a thermocouple). I haven't been able to get it to run since. It's going back in the box and back to Sears. Hopefully I can get a model that is up for light-duty work around my house.  This one definitely is not it.

Not so great

I had two of these before I upgraded to another brand, gas powered. The first washer I bought blew a seal and burnt up the motor within weeks. I returned and the other didn't last any longer. Save your headaches and purchase a gas powered.

Black & Decker 1500 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

I'm thrifty, which is a nice way of saying "Cheap" and living in Florida on a lake with a in ground swimming pool with a screen en-closer that attracts dirt, grim and mold. We are forced to pressure wash every few months. Needless to say this got expensive. Watching the different service people clean the pool I thought to myself "I can do that" so off I went to Sears to see what a pressure washer cost. I had no idea what I needed or how to judge what would be the best for me. The salesman was very helpful with choosing the right one for a novice. We determined the Black & Decker 1500 PSI Electric Pressure Washer was the right choice. It is simple to use and does a fantastic job. I was shocked by how easy it was to use and clean up afterwords. The different attachments allows me to wash everything from the car to the house. It is compacted and stores easily. The price was well with in my budget.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Don't buy this junk product or you'll be sorry.

This is a horrible product to use and everything on it is poorly designed or user unfriendly! This product will pressure wash but not at the price of agravation most would put up with. Three parts broke first day! I wasn't suprised as the first thing that fell out of the shipping box was a paper that said "DO NOT RETURN DEFECTIVE PRODUCT TO THE STORE OF PURCHASE"! That should be an awesome heads up to even the slowest of us I guess. This is a sad case of a Brand name using its BRAND NAME to make and sell JUNK!! Be smart, don't even think about it.

high defective rate

I had to return this item 4 times so far.

I found that the first one I got from a local sears was a defective item that was returned by another customer.  Simply there was no power when I plugged in.

I returned it and got a replacement.  It worked for 3 min and again no power.  I had to return it for a replacement.  I figured that 2 defectives in a row was enough for my bad luck.  The third one I received worked great for 30 min and the hose burst.   The hose is consists of very soft rubber or plastic skin which can be peeled off very easily when it is rubbed against concrete floor.  And yes there is another layer under it but when the skin was weaken the inner hose burst.

I've explained this the sears associate and I was willing to pay for the hose but they didn't carry the accessory so they were nice enough to give me a replacement.

My bad luck didn't end here.  The fourth one, I found out when I've got home, was also a returned item.  The joint betwen the gun and hose leaks and I am afraid this will cause a pop soon.   Do I have a bad luck or this product has too many flaws...?

Disappointing

We purchased this pressure washer even after reading the mediocre reviews bc we needed a replacement to the one that "died" in the middle of our deck project.  The Stanley one we actually wanted, was only available online.  At first use, we thought that maybe this was a great bang for the buck.  It had a (3)spray settings, one of which-the wide fan-was great.  It wasn't as powerful as the previous pressure washer but it made the job a lot quicker with the wide setting.  However, day two proved to be a waste.  As soon as we turned unit on, water was leaking from the wand and at the joint where the hose and wand meet.  Spent close to an hour trying to adjust/fix it without success.  Because of the leakage, the pressure was that of a garden hose.  We returned it, borrowed a friend's to complete our project, and am now online to purchase the Stanley one we originally wanted.

Versitable--anyone can use

Love this pressure washer as I can use it! Not too heavy for anyone in the family to use and it works. I love it in the spring to wash the 'black' off the sidewalks. It is also the best thing around to use for cleaning all the lawn furniture that has collected dirt from last year as well as being stored. Blasts right through and makes it look like new. Economical.

did not work out of the box

i purchased this washer to do light work around the house (wash windows etc). salesman said it should be sufficient. the box was torn but he thought it looked intact.

ready to begin work, i read the instructions, set up the washer, turned on, it started and then stopped. never to return. contacted website listed on box. they told me to start over. did it and it still didn't work. then they told me to return it as it was defective.

i should have believed the reviews! 40 miles round trip to buy and return! PLUS 3 hours of QA testing for the product line. very disappointed.

The Black & Decker 1500 psi electric pressure washer rocks!

Because I heard so many negative comments about small electric pressure washers, I was reluctant to buy one, but I knew I couldn't handle a big one (I'm 66 and female). So I got this BandD from Sears and paid an extra $15 for the extra guarantee. Since the unit only cost me $99, I figured it was worth it. So if something goes wrong Sears will replace it. Well, today I did all the teak patio furniture which was covered with lichen and the mold-covered stone and concrete garden wall. I used the Turbo washer and it did a great job. I read all the reviews and was very grateful to the one who said to read the instructions very carefully. I did...and had no trouble at all. I'm a little disconcerted that I have to store it in the house because it can't withstand below 40 degrees temperatures. I think the garage would get below that here in No. Cal. I want to treat it well because it's such a cute little red baby, and it does such a big job for being so small. My only issue with it is the cord to the wand is pretty stiff and unwieldy, but I don't suppose they can do too much about that. All in all I couldn't be happier.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I got what I expected from an inexpensive pressure washer.

I brought it home and used it for about 5 hours straight to wash my 5th wheel and two cars.  It was easy to setup and ran without issues the whole time.  It is not the most powerful washer, but I knew that when I bought it.  The only complaint I had is the soaping bottle that comes with it runs out really quickly.  A full container wouldn't even soap down one side of my 5th wheel.  DO NOT put expensive concentated soap in the bottle thinking it will last a log time.  It will be gone in a couple of minutes.  Other than that I am please with it for the price I paid.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Black & Decker 1500 psi pressure washer is a great value.

I had the Black & Decker 1500 psi pressure washer for a little over six years. It worked great for pool deck, sidewalks, and other residential jobs until it fell into the pool (Oops). No problems, reliable, and the quick-connect for the hose was very convenient. I will be puchasing the same model as a replacement.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Broken out of the box

Avoid this pressure washer.  Black & Decker is no longer a reliable name in any product category.

I took a chance on buying this piece of junk knowing a lot of people had problems with it.  I paid for that decision.  Wasted three hours buying, unpacking, trying to get it to work (wouldn't turn on in any context), repacking, and returning to store.

good Bang for buck

I have very little experience with power washers, but this one works fine.  Cleaned my deck and driveway.  Was powerful enought to rip paint off of deck, so have to be careful.  Sure its not some high powered beast, for stripping metal or anything but it was $99 and it did the jobs around the house.  I ran it for hours and had zero problem.  Setup consisted of taking out of box and hooking up hoses.  Thats it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Very good and has paid for itself in a few uses.

I have had the pressure washer now for three months and have used it on my driveway, cleaning the house exterior and using it to clean autos. It has ample pressure to clean and not strip paint or remove the concrete or mortar from the bricks. I am very pleased with the washer and would recomend it.

B & D 1500 Pressure Washer Good Value for money

We've only used this a few times but so far it has been great value for money.  Very easy to use right out of the box.  As an average homeowner we used this to clean out cement patio and our wood deck.  Our patio has never looked so clean in the last 5 years and it worked so well on our wood deck that we will be needing to repaint it soon as it took the paint right off in some places (expected)!

The biggest con IMO is that the unit tips over easily.   And yes, it is noisy but I expected that without reading the previous reviews.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nifty Little Gadget

Having previously bought an "off brand" of pressure cleaner, I decided to purchase a name-brand machine this time and I am glad I did.

I use a pressure washer to clean up around my back patio and screened lanai and my husband uses it to clean the boat and motorcycle.

This machine is loads more powerful than our last one and I am able to clean in a fraction of the time.

It's a good bet for sure and I am glad I bought a Black & Decker.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

good utility pressure washer

This is a nice little washer for use around the pool and to keep the pesty spots around the house pressure washed and clean. The only problem is it is a bit of a pain to screw the garden hose into the water inlet. Again, for use around the house, boat, car, pool this is an economic solution.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great unit for every homeowner!!!!!

I don't understand some people, they try to save a buck and are always disappointed with the purchases they make; this unit works great! This is a "LIGHT DUTY" washer, not a professional gas powered washer. I have owned it for a month now and really, I don't have anything bad to say about it. Yeah, "I" can use more power, but really that's only because I am a guy and want the biggest and the badest. I have never owned a power washer before, like everything I buy; I research the heck out of it. What I found is if you are a homeowner that does the regular car wash, wash off the house, and so on, this unit is for you. I told myself if I really need more power I will rent a unit, but for the cost this was a great buy. I washed my car, cleaned off my driveway, and cleaned the brick on my house, and so on. The power out of this unit is more than enough for any homeowner!! I would love to have a nice gas powered unit, but for the price, this one takes the cake. I loved this washer so much I bought it for the father-in-law!! Enjoy this washer and happy cleaning!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Terrific for Home Owners!

I bought this unit when it went on sale 2 weeks ago...  Then I got home and read all the bad review, and started to get nervous.

I'm writing this now to reassure you this unit works just fine!  I spent 3+ hours cleaning my sidewalks and siding yesterday, and had NO PROBLEMS!

This power washer is:

  • Powerful enough to blast moss, mold, algae and dirt off aluminum siding, sidewalks and rock walls
  • Light enough to carry with one hand
  • Uses only 1.5 gallons of water per minute
  • Quiet enough to talk over - my vacuum cleaners are louder!
  • well-designed, with power cord bracket in the back, big power switches, and easy-to-grab handle
  • Small enough to store almost anywhere - but NOT WHERE IT MIGHT FREEZE!
  • Includes a Turbo Washer lance (wand?  tip? attachment?)

CAUTION:  This is NOT a 'plug-and-play' power tool.  You MUST read the instruction book to use it safely, easily, and without problems or surprises.

So if I like the unit, why do I put in the statement above?  Because I thought it would be 'a snap' to use this machine, but it is more complex than I expected...  It works GREAT, but you have to understand HOW it works.

EXAMPLES:

  • When you turn it on, it runs for only 1 or 2 seconds, and then stops.  The pump motor doesn't run again UNTIL you have pulled the trigger, and water has come out for about 1 second - THEN the pressure sensor turns on, and the pump motor starts pumping again.  When you stop spray washing, and let go of the trigger, the pump stops running again.
  • The pump motor stops running from time to time, because it has a BUILT-IN SAFETY SWITCH.  If it gets hot, or starts pulling too much electricity, it AUTOMATICALLY STOPS.  In 3+ hours of work, this happened every 20 minutes of non-stop spraying - and it was ready to run again WITHIN 1 MINUTE.  (A good time to sip a beverage or light up a cigar!)
  • When the pump motor safety switch senses that it IS SAFE TO CONTINUE, the pump motor runs for about 1 second, and then stops.   Then you can start spraying again.
  • If the motor stops running, it might not be the motor safety switch - it MIGHT BE THE GROUND FAULT POWER PLUG.  This happened once in 3+ hours of work.
  • If you use an extension cord, MAKE SURE it is protected with a ground fault circuit.  In my case, I plugged the unit into a ground fault surge protector.  The 5th or 6th time the motor 'took a break', I waited for about 30 seconds, and realized it wasn't going to start again.  I checked, and the ground fault surge protector had popped its circuit breaker.

None of these are major problems - UNLESS YOU HAVEN'T READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!  Otherwise, you will know why it stopped, popped, blinked or paused.  It is a bit intimidating at first - but after I read the instructions twice, and ran it for about 20 minutes, I felt like an expert!

One GREAT feature?!?  The turbo wash power lance!

This unit comes with 3 washer wands (or lances?) that attach to the sprayer handle.  They are:

  1. A soap dispenser/sprayer
  2. An adjustable tip sprayer (from fan to pinpoint)
  3. A turbo wash sprayer

I didn't understand what the turbo wash sprayer did until I started using it - and IT ROCKS!  While the power washer pump is running, the water squirts out the tip - SPINNING IN A CIRCLE!!  This means you can hold the wand away from the surface and clean a 1-foot wide area,  or hold it really close for higher pressure, and clean a 1" or 2" wide area.  No more switching power tips while washing!  Need more pressure?  Get closer...  Want to cover more area?  Move away from the surface...

This unit cleaned black mold staining my sidewalk without any problems.  It blasted moss and algae off a rock wall, and cleaned the chalky coating of oxide from my aluminum siding.  I NEVER had to change tips or adjust anything - just kept using the Turbo Power washing wand.  I love it!

This unit will clean sidewalks, patio furniture, stained wood, boat bottoms, siding, and even windows.  It is perfect for a home owner, or a boat owner!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
