I have had mine for a few years. The only thing I am disappointed with is the fact that my bearing on the shaft went out and it is not user friendly to replace. This has to be done by someone with special tools. I have removed many bearings and this is one that uses the brother-in-law rule. I'm sure it will be more costly than it should be. Now my overall rating on this product is average only because of my issue, but as you can see I've had mine awhile and I am happy I bought it.

This machine is all I expected and more. I have only had it about a month but I have put it through extreme conditions and have had no problems. It is easy to start, easy to replace line and easy to maintain. You will need lots of line though and extra air filter. It isn't very easy to push, but that is expected from any similar machine. This machine is also less than half the price of some of the others like it. Only complaint is, took over 3 weeks to arrive after making order, then it came without owners manual. Sears is still working with me on that issue.

I kept borrowing a friends and was very impressed with it. Decided to purchase my own and the price was right. My friend didn't have the string on right but I corrected that and the glide ball adjustment needed some cleaning up to stay adjusted. No big deal it's easy to work on. The trimmer glides easy and debris stays for the most part away from you. Wear safety glasses for sure because the tuff stuff will fly and pants are highly recommended. This is not your little weed trimmer your playing with here! Good quality machine made in america.(I Think)
I have had my trimmer for 4 months. This thing really eats thru the grass and weeds that are around my property. I have cut weeds as high as 4ft tall and this thing eats right in. My only issue for the money I spent is the trimmer head assy. Within 2 mths I had to replace the bearings in the glider and now after just 4 mths of avg cuttig I need to replace the glider. Compaired to the 800 DR.TRIMMER I thing I got a great deal. Watch for small ropey grass wrapping under the trimmer head and glider. I think this what ruined the bearings at first. Bearins are under 5 bucks at local auto shop but the glider is 33.00 bucks from Sears plus shipping. I think this is horrible for a high wear item on these. For 33.00 bucks you would think it would last longer than 4 mths.
Starts great on the first try and cuts thru the toughest weeds and undergrowth. My only issue is with the spindle head assembly, think something better than the resin plastic could be manufactured to allow the front of the mower to "glide over terrain".After 2 years(of extremely hard use) the rod inside the trimmer head wobbles and has rendered the cutting head useless.I also wore down the "glider" as a result of bumping against rocks,so take it easy with the cutting head!Overall, good product for most folks.
Iwas thrilled when I found this trimmer since I have about 2 acres of high weeds and vines. I loved that it basically came ready to use - just flip up the handle. I used this for over 5 hours the first 2 days and only had to change the string once due to hitting wire - and it was very easy to change. It cut through wet, high weeds with ease. I highly recommend this trimmer.
I've just finished clearing away about 3/4 acre of black berry and Vinca major plants with no problems. I've only had two wrap-arounds in two days (one being wire). The ball and bearings are doing just fine. I have a fixed maintenance cost of $60 over the next 3 years, with the Sears Protection Agreement. Considering what kind of tough work this type of machine does, I think I made a wise choice investing in a Protection Agreement, along with period user maintenance I will be performing. The Craftsman brand name tool has been with Sears since 1927. There was no buy out. The main drive system of the unit is a belt and pulleys. The units engine is a Briggs and Stratton. If they want to use nylon gears for their engines, I trust their Engineers and manufacturing staff to continue producing rugged and reliable engines. Wish I had invested in this machine years ago.

I read reviews of other makes and models costing twice as much. Thery all seem to have complaints about the quality & problems they had, especially for twice the money. I needed this right away knew sears had these in stock. Thought if I was waisting my money I should only waist half of it. Boy was I suprised at how well this thing works. I used this for 4 hrs straight only used a tank and a half of gas. I had to put on to sets of blades brcause I hit large metal objects hidden in the weeds. This does not work very well on yuccas & telephone wire. Very pleased, great deal and very tired now. It does not wear you out as much as a hoe. I recommend this item if you need one.
This things a tank. Works great and the price is perfect. Only issue is the adjustment for the trim height isn't built that great and seems not to stay at the preset height. It's not that important for me anyways.

This is a great machine for the money. This is the second one I have owned. The improvements are good, it's easier to replace the lines. Motor is very prowerful and it cuts through weeds and brush with no problem at all. My only complaint is that it can eat up line. But the line is inexpensive and easy to change.

I have a great deal of overgrowth, grasses, bushes, etc., and this cuts through everything as well as a bladed trimmer. The string is easy to change. It starts easily. A little heavy to horse around, but doable. Never had any trouble starting, even after winter.
This mower was by far the best price we could find. It was nice to have it available for pickup locally, even though we had a hard time locating it since the mower was at the warehouse and not the store. Other than that, we have been completely happy so far. This came out of the box complete, started on the first pull, and worked as promised. It's well balanced and handled uneven terrain well.

I love this trimmer. I have 5+ acres, some on hillside which has been partly logged and then overgrown. This trimmer tackles the tall grass, weeds, blackberries, etc and I can trim all day unlike the handheld weedeater. The trimmer line is easy to replace and having the double lines makes cutting really efficient. There is sometimes a problem with clogging in tall, thick, damp grass but any clog is quick and easy to clear. I've had no problems starting the trimmer even though I am rather short for starting most items with a starting handle. Always starts first time. There's a good size gas tank so you don't have to constantly refill it. My trimmer goes lots of places my mower can't and does just as good a job. It's great as well for simply cutting grass - just wheel it along like a mower. Cutting around trees or buildings is a breeze, you can accurately cut right up without damaging what you are trimming around. A relative has already bought one on my recommendation and loves it, and a co-worker is in the process.
This is my second high wheel trimmer. I lost my first to Hurricane Katrina. This trimmer started up right away out of the box, after priming. I have rotor cuff problems and have no trouble starting this mower, usually one pull will do it (unless one forgets to prime) I am unable to carry a regular trimmer, so I went back to the high wheel even though I have down sized my property. At times it is hard to push on unlevel ground, wish there were a self propelled option. I think this would help people such as myself to enjoy the high wheel even more. It doesn't seem to throw out as much debris to the operator as the hand held models, to me. I am a physically challenged female amd I find this high wheel the best method for trimming. I would most surely purchase another.
This is the 2nd Craftsman High Wheel Trimmer I've purchased. These trimmers have tremendous power and easily cut down tall grass and the like. This is a must have for yards that border woods like ours does.
I bought this trimmer 3 years ago, and I love it. I have Diabetes and was concerned about injuring my legs with flying debree with my hand held trimmer. I bought this and will never go back, now my legs are much safer. After primeing with primer push button it starts on the first pull, even after winter storage. It's very quite compared to 2 cycle hand held models, and no mixing of oil with gas. The sring lasts forever and is easy to change, just takes seconds. Have not had anything break in 3 years of use. Easy to push but for very ruff or hilly it would be nice if they offered a self propeled model.
I bought this trimmer to supliment my lawn tractor and string trimmer, it gets to all the places a conventional mower cannot and does well on high weeds and in the places where you might encounter a kids toy or dog bone, you will need to replace the trimmer line often if you have fencing, or posts, All in all a good purchase in my opinion.
I've wanted one of these for years and I just couldn't pass up the sale price. My question is...Why did I wait so long??? Out of the box I used this unit to mow fence lines, my dog's lot, and some rocky areas. Had the weather not been so hot I'd have used it all day. A great time saver, I actually look forward to weed eating now...how cool is that!!!!
WOW !!! I purchased this trimmer last fall and did a whale of a job on fenceline weeds and close brush. It does make little work of that kind of clean-up. Would recomend it for serious users and experienced people only.
I just came inside after using or new weed cutter....WOW........it was easy to start, light enough for me to use it. (I'm a short, age challenged person) It cut through very high grass and weeds and blackberry bushes. Now, if I could only get my hubby to use it on a regular basis......Does Sears have a "Hubby upgrade" kit??....
The price of the trimmer fits what it is worth.Had mine for three years. First year worked fine except for having to remove weeds wrapped around the shaft all the time. Second year replace the bottom mow ball and shaft bearings because they fell out. Third year replace bearings agin they burnt up and going to need another mow ball which not going to buy. Would not buy another one or recommend it to anyone.
