more then expected
More then i expected. I started photography as a hobby. Now is about to turn onto my business. The camera is pretty fast a lot of options. Impressed by the low noise in pictures. mostly i use my on ISO 100 up to 400 no matter you can expand and boost it up to 6400. Well of course there is better cameras and of course they don't start at 800$ with the lens. At least maybe double price of d5100. Plus if you have some more knowledge in photography and creativity you really can make pro photos. I have pics taken with d5100 on istockphoto.com approved. And besides this it records amazing video not only as resolution but as colors and clarity and affordable sound. Very well possible that because this camera is so robust in technical options that we aren't using it correctly. But the picture quality hasn't blown us away with any "wow" moments.
Less than 6 months of use and the video stopped working. It has been a pain getting service and support locally. Our next option is to pack it up and ship it directly to Nikon. This is why I hate dealing with these expensive electronics that go to **** on you so quickly. For $800 it should hold up longer.

Only one word, IMPRESSIVE!!! It's really a high upgrade from a point shoot camera. If you are an amateur and thinking whether you want to buy this or Canon T3i, definitely this is a good choice. I don't know how T3i will impress you but, this D5100 will definitely make your money worth while. I am an amateur myself and I found this camera really do its job outside my expectations. However, please do not compare this camera with others that have higher performance cuz it's just simply does not make sense. Go to Google and type in the best 10 entry level DSLR camera and it will give you range of options. Sony Interchangeable Lense camera is also good if you want to have in between point shoot and DSLR. Originally I wanted to buy Sony F3 but, I saw this camera on a deal in Sears. I got it $630 for cheap compared to manufacturer price, it was $830. Sony F3 is AMAZING and I still want to have it but, this D5100 really gives me a really high performance and plus I like photography myself. It produces very fine pictures if you know how to take a good one. If you just want to take pictures that even does not have art on it, then buy cheaper ones. This camera, from my point of view, was only made for people who are serious about taking GOOD pictures with GOOD moments with also ART in it. I am hoping I can attach a photo here as a result of the camera but, it looks like I cannot. Please do not need to buy this camera for the sake of "I just want to have it" because this way you won't be able to use this camera to its edge. Have fun!!!

Versatile DSLR
The D5100 is, in my opinion, perfect. It provides solid, excellent engineering and build. For me, it is very easy to operate with more picture control functions than, from what I have read, most other dslr's and is superb in low light. Very pleased and Sears provided great price and service.
I would recommend this product to a friend.

Excellent camera, great low light picture, great colors.Richness of colors. I've been in numerous situations . This camera makes switching between two modes especially fast when needed. Excellent feature and video capacity. Recomiendo esta camera fuertemente

Great DSLR!
This is my first DSLR and I really like it, easy to use with quick access to most used functions, it also has in camera effects and hd movie capability. Very nice picture quality, sharp images. The kit lens does a very good job as well. Overall the camera feels solid and worth the price.
