Good lens for the money
A very nice lens and the one that spends the most time on my camera (350D Rebel XT) out of the three lenses I have. Good all around lens. I use it for flower close ups as well as zoom. The build quality feels very good but not excellent, adds a good bit more weight to the camera compared to the kit lens but it gives the camera a better balance in my hands. Image stabilizer works and is nice to have but be sure to turn it off when using a tripod. The lens is not "tack sharp" as you might expect from the "L" series but still good quality. Actually the very slight touch of softness produces some great portraits and pet photography. While I would like to have a tack sharp image for flower macro shots or photographs of the moon, I am happy with the results I get when visiting the local Botanical Gardens. I would like better (warmer) results for landscape photography. Did fine for action shots during a civil war reenactment I photographed and actually got some nice clear shots of the blasts coming out of the gun barrels. Hard to say about auto focus speed, sometimes fast sometimes it seem to "hunt", not a problem for me because I usually use manual focus. All in all...great lens for it's price. No problems so far and I have used it heavily for the past 8 months or so in ice cold weather as well as the heat of summer. This would be one of the first lenses I would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade the kit lens, for the results and the price, you won't be disappointed.
I would recommend this product to a friend.
