Canon EF-S - Telephoto zoom lens - 55 mm - 250 mm - f/4.0-5.6 IS - Canon EF-S
This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness, in response to demands of photographers. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88 - 400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. This EF-S telephoto lens with great features delivers excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers.

Great affordable Digital SLR lens June 01, 2009

I realize that this is by far not the greatest lens, but for the price it is to me, a newcomer to the Digital SLR world, this lens great, as far as price in concerned. I would rather get real acquainted with my camera a lot more, before I go out and purchase an expensive lens. That way later I would know what I want in a better lens, and I will truly see the difference, between the two. It really compliments the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my XSi. I am sure that I would probably need more reach, but that would have to come later.

When looking to add a lens to the regular kit lens, it doesn't get any better than this lens, for this price. It is not going to rival the higher end L class lenses, but is also not going to be over [$]as well.For this price, you get a sturdy, fairly sharp lense, that can perform excellently in good light. You do really have to look deep at pictures to tell the difference between this and the[$]more expensive 70-300mm IS lens. This lens is the perfect companion to the 18-55 kit and will give you great shots, time and time again. Buy it, and a good size flash unit for the same price as just the 70-300mm lens. Use it and you will be happy.
