Simple to use out of the box yet great tech features..
With basic instruction I was shooting like a pro on the first day. I take alot of action shots of horse and riders from Dressage to Cross Country and Stadium Jumping this camera is a dream to use. Light weight,accurate, easy to switch modes, clear crisp pictures in all light and shadow settings.

If you have seriously thought about photography as a hobby, this is THE camera to purchase. Takes clear, crisp pictures. The detail is phenomenal. It has more options than a Sony or a Canon that I was also interested in.

THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL CAMERA WITH THE 14.2 MP'S. IT ALSO HAS A VERSITILE KARL SIESS LENSE AND FUNCTIONAL ZOOM PROPERTY. IT'S MY PIC OF A CAMERA TODAY. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS DIGITAL AS WELL AS SLR. FOR THE PRICE I COULD NOT FIND A BETTER CAMERA.

Best Professional Camera for the Novice
Bought the Nikon D3100 for Christmas 2011. Pictures are outstanding. Very easy to use; never had a camera before with exchangable lenses. Like the auto focus. Got a good zoom lens and could see much better with the camera from where I was sitting in the audience when my son was performing. Excellent sound. Used the video option and had excellent video playback on my 50" HDTV with USB flash drive. Still haven't read the manual...

Great camera for a great price
This camera is a great buy. It takes amazing pictures and has all the settings as a more expensive model. When looking for a great camera as either a student, amateur, or pro, look no further than this model. I debated long and hard between this model and the 5100 but with only a few differences and the pull out screen, It was not worth the extra money. I barely use my screen except for viewing the menu and a quick review of pictures taken.

Love my Nikon Camera one of the best birthday/Christmas gift I ever received! It takes great photos and video. We have 4 kids and it takes great fun spontaneous photos of them. Would recommend to any one looking great camera. Beginner or expert would be happy to have this camera.

Great First SLR
I've had this for about 3 weeks now and am totally pleased! My sister has had a D40 for years and using it was always incredible - ! It seems like a great camera for our home - manual and custom features aren't shrouded behind layers of menus, but point and shoot auto mode is simple for when other members of our home don't want to worry about details. Some time reading the manual paid off - the "workflow" of this camera feels outstanding. Low light shots with a tripod have been really exceptional. Nikon software no better than iPhoto, but better than some stuff - if you're a pc - it may be good. HDMI connection to tv is WOW!!! Video is ALSO really great - but I might still need to learn about vdeo focusing... lense noise is present in video, as is true with almost all cameras that also shoot video. Great camera!
