the ProForm XP Trainer 580 is quiet and powerful... August 12, 2010
This treadmill is quiet and powerful. It has some great preset programs and seems to be rock-solid and a great deal for the $$$.
Once you get this puppy put together you will feel like you've accomplished something for sure. The instructions were so-so and, oh yeah... here's a good thing to know... IT WILL NOT WORK without the safety key inserted. So, don't think you did something wrong when you're finished assembling it and the belt won't move. Go back to the plastic bag with the accessories and retrieve the key and plug it in. THEN you'll be in business.
Go get one... you'll love it.

Decent for the money May 02, 2010
This treadmill was to replace an older model profrom the finally gave out. We purchased this on New Years, and within the first month, we have had to have 5 repairs done at home by sears. The memory board for retaining the height position malfunctions and loses the height so you are not able to fully recline or raise the incline. It will get stuck and stay in that position till you reset the memory board inside the machine, or replace the board altogether as in our case. After 5 replacements, it finally is working properly. Out of the box, the set up took approximately 2 hours to set up. We noticed that fresh out the box there were broken pieces on the foot. Sears sent a replacement in the mail in about a week. As for the "space saving," you may as well forget it! this only folds up to about a 45 degree angle, the is held up by a very tiny bolt that could easily snap or shear off at the weak welds. This is a safety hazard for any kids or pets. The tread is very heavy so I recommend keeping it in the down, not folded position. The motor in this machine is powerful and can handle me fine at 200+ pounds. The ipod speakers work but are a joke, better off with headphones. Overall after all the repairs, for the price, I still would recommend this one. Apparently there is now a recall or fix for the positioning error, I have not confirmed this yet. Have fun!

Pros:
Great speaker system for your ipodI have owned the unit for one year. Prices are coming down, but the real reason to purchase was weight loss. It's heavy and my 5 year old (extra hands) and I put it together with no problems.
I have used the unit for one year and have had no warranty issues with it. It performs well and it a good basic unit for weight loss. I like the iPod/MP3 speakers and the speakers do crank out the tunes.
The only problem would be with the heart rate monitor. I know I am doing a good work out, but it may read 53 beats per minute (bpm) or any other number. Sometimes the bpm scare me if it was true - - 185 bpm, etc. I don't trust the pulse monitor. It's a shame that a basic electronic device is not accurate for any duration.
Overall, good unit. I would purchase again and I would recommend it to a friend.

Pros:
Fun to useThis has been a good tredmill but, sometimes it will not start when I touch the speed that I want to walk. The timer and distance start moving as though the tredmill was turning however the tredmill does not start. When this happens I have to push stop and then push the speed that I want to walk again.
I am very disapointed in the service contract that I bought. I have never heard from them in around a year.

Pros:
easy to fold/move,super quiet beltLove, Love, Love this machine. I am 5'4" and 150 lbs. This machine flies and is super quiet! Much quieter than others on the market or even the ones used at our gym. Our workout room is next to our babies nursery and on the 2nd floor of our house. No one is disturbed when I use it day or night. Mine was assembled by the store and transported to our home, so no problems there. I would highly recommend the Proform XP 580 Trainer to ANYONE! A great investment!
