Awesome bike, you can't go wrong with this model

Every person having their own variances on what "comfort" is to them, I have to say this bike floored me.  I've never had a bike this comfortable.  Once the bike was home, I aired up the tires and took it for a test ride in the neighborhood.  After a few minutes of riding, on the way home I decided to try out the dirt trails along the ditches to see how comfortable the ride was on more rugged terrain. While you can feel bumps, it a bike not a limo, the bike handles the trails well. The suspension does a great job of smoothing out the trail.  I found that the bike still needs some fine tuning to get the gears adjusted. My test ride ended up a 30 minute ride. Overall, this is a great bike and I highly recommend the "Comfort" model.

btw, I took the internet add in with me and got the bike for the internet price, in-store price was $299.

No "Cons" noted in review. Nothing broken, bent, or missing. My impression is that EVERY bike will need gears fine tuned and if that is ALL there is to complain about this bike, someone needs to pound nails into a metal pole.

Good - But Could Be a Lot Better

While this Schwinn 26in Mens Suburban Comfort Bike is OK "as is", it could be a lot better.

The good: Aluminum frame; just as strong as most steel framed bikes & a lot lighter.  Highly adjustable handlebar & stem.  You can tilt the handlebar forward or back, and raise or lower the stem to your specific needs.  Suspension seatpost with a direct rail mounting system.  This is much safer and stronger than the older style clamps.  Older seatposts are made from simple "pot metal" and the clamping system tends to shift or give way over time.  The tires look good for both on road & light trails of packed earth or finely crushed gravel.  Sorry...end of the good.

The bad: As on most big box store & discount store bikes - the cheapest possible components (parts).  The Shimano Tourney rear derailleur is the lowest one Shimano makes.  A lot of plastic incorporated in the making of this model vs. at least a Shimano Altus derailleur.  While the 7 speed rear cog (gears) appears to be a Shimano 7-spd Megarange Freewheel, 14-34 teeth, it could have been made with a Shimano HG50 7-Speed Cassette with either a 13-34 or a 14-32 range.  The key words here being "Freewheel" vs. the better "Cassette" hub.  Cassette hubs are much stronger & will withstand more weight, use & abuse.  If an over-weight person rides this bike on a regular basis, sooner or later the rear wheel will start popping spokes at the hub faster than Orville Redenbacher pops popcorn.  Single wall rims vs. stronger double walled rims.  Again...will take more weight, use & abuse.

One frame size only for those of "average" height - whatever that might be.  Real bicycle shops will carry bikes in various frame sizes to fit anyone from roughly 5' tall to 6' 6" tall.  All the bikes will have the same tire size - just made in different frame sizes.  Assembly: Just how much training & knowledge does the bicycle assembly person have?  I've seen so many bikes slapped together in 15 minutes or less.  Wheels out-of-true, gears that don't shift properly, brakes not adjusted properly, etc.  A real bicycle shop will take at least one hour to assemble & test ride a bike before it's even placed on the showroom floor.  In my humble opinion, any bike purchased from a big box store should be taken immediately to a real bicycle shop for a thorough inspection and/or adjustments.

I'm not saying this is a bad bicycle, I'm just saying "Buyer Beware".  Know ahead of time exactly what you are buying and the bikes' capabilities.  For the casual cyclist or week-end cyclist of average height & weight, this could be a great buy.  For the serious cyclist or an over-weight person - look elsewhere.  You need a stronger, better bicycle.  I looked long & hard at this bike & decided to spend or "invest" (as I like to say) my money in a better, shop quality bike.  No matter what bicycle you purchase, take care of it properly by performing routine maintenance or have a shop tune it up minimum of once per year.  Keep your tires inflated properly (check often) and lube the chain every 100-150 miles.  Happy cycling!

Bottom line: For the "casual cyclist" I'll still give it a thumbs up, but not by much.

Great Comfort Bike

The Bike rides and shifts very well.Only about 5 + miles so far and no problems.I have been comparing this bike to many others costing twice it's price and the Schwinn came out the winner.I did very minor adjustments to the brakes and gears after receiving it.It climbed a very Steep hill with no problems also. The saddle is also very comfy.Love it.

Looks great!

The bike looks great, was easy to assemble and rides wonderfully! I am upset that it came scratched on the side or was damaged during shipping. For the money I paid my bike should be flawless! Definitely don't get it shipped to your house, pick up from the store!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

VERY NICE BIKE FOR THE MONEY!!!

I know a lot of people have some troubles with buying a bike from other than a bicycle shop but with being on a budget this bike hit all the marks I was looking for within my price point. After seeing it in the store I was a bit hesitant seeing how the bike was loosely put together..but I figured it was a "diamond in the rough" and I am somewhat mechanically knowledgeable so I figured I could work things out. So after getting it home and airing up the tires then with a short ride found a few things not right, I set out to do some adjusting. May I say after the adjustments wow what a nice bike! I recent sold my Schwinn I had for 13 yrs and didn't know how much I missed it until this bike. Has some really nice features..not high end but a good bike to ride and it is reasonably smooth with the shocks in the seat and forks. I know people say Schwinn isn't anything anymore but I think their building a comparable bike that will last for years with proper maintanence. Built in China..but so are the others..Trek being one of them with shimmano tourney direalers ta boot. So I feel dollar for dollar this bike offers nice features and with a quality build and name.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good bike, but beware

I bought this bike two weeks ago and am fairly pleased with it overall. The only problem was the assembly and the fact that the brakes were locked down tight. Oh, and the back wheel was badly misshapened. Oh, and the shifter needed major adjustments.

Other than those things...well, and the fact that you can't lower the seat because it hits a screw...it is great. I bought it from Sears because ut was convenient. You pay a price sometimes for convenience. This bike was very hazrdous in the condition I received it. BE CAREFUL!

Overall
Schwinn Suburban bike is comfortable and high-quality for price

Great entry-level bike for road or light trail riding.  Bike is light-wieght and components are of high-quality for this price point.  There are no assembly instructions...if you have never put a bike together, take it to a bike shop for assembly and comfort adjustments.  The seat does not go down as far as it may appear because of the spring in the seat tube...it will lower if spring is taken out (unscrew at bottom of tube...although this may void warranty).

The only problem I have encountered is with gearing...shifting is not exact, you have to adjust quite often while riding to get rid of chain rattling.  This seems typical for entry-level bikes.

Overall, very comfortable and responsive for an everyday bike for male or female riders.  Have not had any major problems thus far with brakes, frame, or any components.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
