I searched on line for an 8 quart Pressure cooker and found that they can be very expensive. This Manttra, from Sears, was only around $80.00 bucks. I had been using a 4 quart aluminum Presto that I inherited from some great, great grand aunt or uncle from some Indian tribe in Outer Mongolia. I've had it for close to 40 years. I only used it to cook my beans and chili. It served me well but this Stainless Steel Manttra can do so much more.
It's a 5 pc. set and can be used for a stock pot, steamer and pressure cooker. It cooks just about anything. I am looking forward to my wife's approval as I do more and more of the cooking. Fish, roast, steamed vegies, and it will hold a whole chicken. Watch out for the heat produced by the aluminum sandwiched between the stainless steel at the bottom of the pot. It insures even heating and no hot spots but really transfers the heat. I lucked out when I burnt the first batch of beans because I caught it in time. I carefully removed what wasn't stuck to the bottom and fortunately no burn taste contaminated my beans.
When it came time to clean up I couldn't believe how easy the burnt beans came out. A little scrubing with the nylon side of a sponge was all it took.
If you have been shopping at Sears for any length of time you already know they take care of you. I had ablolutely no fear of trying something new.
Aluminum is not considered to be good for you (don't know why) so I feel better about the stainless steel.
If you're in the market for a larger pressure cooker my honest, unprofessional opinion is try this one. I highly recommend it.
Can't wait to try a roast.
Enjoy
I recently bought this 5 Pc Stainless Steel MultiCooker Set SKU # 38283 from Sears. The first one I bought I found the steaming basket was cracked in 3 places. I immediately returned it and got a replacement. The first time I used the replacement I was concerned the pressure regulator was not working correctly. It seemed to float too freely between the settings. After I inspected it closer and compared it to the picture in the manual, I noticed the little knob on the bottom of the regulator is broken off.
Now I need to return the replacement. This time I'm getting my money back. I will never buy a Manttra product again! I also put blame on Sears for selling me garbage!

After having this for less than 2 and a half years it will not hold steam and drips water every where. We purchased this 10-15-2009. Have replaced the gasket twice to no avail. Yes it looks nice and will work for about 1-2 years and then you will have to purchase another one, so save your money and buy a different brand. Sears only sells junk I am so glad they are closing in my area, have not purchased anything from them for over a year and a half

GARBAGE! Sears still do not understand how it continues to sell

I had my Presto Cooker for about 20 years. I purchased Manttra about 3 years ago. This one started leaking steam and water in about a year. I always replace the rubber seal many, many times and it still leaks. The lid does not lock properly anymore. I have to press down on the lid when it first starts to build up steam to minimize the water dripping out of the rim and steam will leak from the handle on the lid. Once the steam has built up and the pressure is better inside, I can let go of the lid and the water will stop leaking down the sides of the pot, but steam will still leak from the handle on the top Yesterday, the pressure setting knob broke so I will be buying a new pressure cooker. I will not buy another Manttra brand.

A solid built good but simple pressure cooker. I have shopped around and most cookers are 6 quarts and under. Then I found this one at Sears. It is 8 quarts which is large enough to cook a whole chicken in or make a nice soup for 6 people. It is very easy to operate. Is UL listed and made in India NOT China. Love the way it has 3 steam release settings, Low, High, and full open. The steam cock is also heavy duty stainless metal with a heavy duty plastic cover so as not to burn your fingers when you move it. The top has a nice arched handle to move the pot or can use the 2 side handles if prefered. Stay away from those fancy shmancy cookers with the digital readouts. They are NOT accurate. In my opinion this is the best one I have seen out there on the market.
