A very good fryer October 18, 2010
I bought this fryer to replace a small one that I had. I wanted one with a lid to keep the grease smell to minimum and one that was larger than what I had.
This one is large enough to do a fair amount of food at one time. It has a lid which helps keep the grease from spraying. There is still a grease smell after cooking but it isn't as much as my old one with no lid.
It does take a lot of oil at one time, so go for the jumbo bottle of oil when buying oil. For those concerned with safety, the plug has a magnetic catch. If bumped or pulled it will unplug from the unit and not pull the unit with it. My old unit didn't have this, but it was about 10 years old, so this might be a standard feature on fryers today.
I got my fryer last year during one of the Christmas sales, so that also made it a very good deal. I would recommend this unt.

We really like this Hamilton Beach stainless steel deep fryer. It's not too big for storing in the cupboards and it still makes perfect serving sizes (AND I live with a family of seven!). We have just recently purchased it from our local kmart store (Greenville, MI WOOT WOOT--keeping them in business ;p) and have already made french fries, egg rolls (yummy!!), potatoe chips, and a bloomin onion (you know, from outback steakhouse :D)--you can fry everything (lol not that i am recomending that :p). Love it :]

Pros:
doesn't take up a ton of spaceI purchased this to replace my small Fry Daddy. I have used it for 3 months and love that it is so easy to use & keep clean. The oil stays a constant tempature and when frying a basketfull of frozen chicken wings, once dropped in the oil it doesn't take long to bring temp back up. We have a family of 4 (healthy/big eaters) this fryer can handle our load! I have fried whole pieces of chicken, okra, fried cheese, shrimp, chicken fried steak, sweet potatoes, corn dogs, fried okra just to name a few and have never had a problem.. Works fine everytime!

This fryer works well, and is big enough to fry small items. I don't think I'd try to fry large chicken breasts in it or something big. It would work well for fried vegetables, fish, chicken strips, legs, etc.
