Although I can now safely say that I'm on the Sonicare bandwagon--the speed and tenacity of their sonic cleaning toothbrushes being more than just a sales gimmick--this 'AA' battery version of their e-series product line falls face down for quality of workmanship. At a cost of $30-$50, depending where you shop, I would expect a fairly well-made product that would last me a year or two. I understand the brush heads have a limited lifespan, but the base should last for some time. Within one week, however, I was having problems turning it 'on'. Apparently, this model's battery compartment is miserably sealed against water. Yep, who would have guessed it, a toothbrush exposed to WATER! After each and every use, insidious water finds its way into the base and starts attacking the batteries, contacts, and even the metal/magnets on the brushhead. I couldn't believe it. My kid's inexpensive Crest and Colgate electrics run and run-- I wrote Philips about this after I began having problems and received a form-letter reply indicating that I had to 'disassemble and air-dry' the unit after every use. I guess they have mold problems with the product as well. Totally unacceptable. It's like a car dealer telling you to steer your car to the left when they know the front-end needs to be fixed. Anyway, based on my personal experience my recommendation is to AVOID this model. I'm presently making arrangements to return my unit to Philips, if nothing else to just show them how badly it's made.
