Liquid/Sauce capacityKitchenAid offers two different sizes of food processors, 9-cup and 12-cup. Both of these models come with a 4-cup mini bowl that inserts into the top of the main bowl. The mini bowl is particularly helpful for dips and sauces.
One feature that is not commonly discussed between the two models is the height of the center column. In the 9-cup model the center column of the main bowl is only one inch tall, meaning that it can only hold approximately two and a half cups of liquid. In the 12-cup model the center column of the main bowl is two inches tall, that translates to four cups of liquid. The 4-cup mini bowl also has a two inch column and can hold three cups of liquid.
So, what does all this mean? If the intended use includes recipes that have a liquid consistency the 4-cup mini bowl actually holds more than the main bowl on the 9-cup model; consider purchasing the 12-cup model for more versatility. In general, consider looking beyond the basic model description when you are investing in high quality kitchen appliances that will be cherished for years to come.
