this is a dream machine, best item in my kitchen!
I bought this mixer last October, I cook daily, with many years experience, and this is a dream machine. It is strong when it needs to be, gentle when required of it, and ramps up and down smoothly with no splashing. For mixing more liquid into dry ingredients, the pouring shield is invaluable. It is easy to clean, easy to store, but I leave it out, it is beautiful and decorative enough to have it's place. There is nothing I don't like about it.

I own a few kitchen aid mixers because I own a bakery. I have to say that kitchen aid is not the heavy duty mixer it used to be. My new one doesn't seem to have the power of my older models and the beaters are cheap and light.
When I read the word PRO mixer I assumed it would be even heavier and could handle more than the ones I already owned but not so. Motor seems to really struggle with heavier doughs like cookie dough.

Very sorry I went with the KitchenAid 5 qt. Pro 500 Series Mixer
I have been coveting this mixer for years and based on other reviews I went with the pro model. It was supposed to be able to handle up to triple batches of dough- it doesn't. It doesn't even handle double batches of bread doughs easily and the last time we made a double batch of a very simple pizza dough the whole thing that holds the dough hook fell out and it hasn't worked right since. I thought we had broke it the third time we used it making a double batch of biscotti since it just stopped but apparently it shut itself off. We've been using it since to make smaller batches and they worked okay until it fell in- even though we followed step by step instructions to get it back together- now it is useless. The other thing I don't like is that it is very hard to get the hooks/beaters out when there is something in the bowl- next time I am definitely going for the head tilt model which is cheaper and I believe will do at least as good a job at double batches as the pro does.

This doesn't have the quality of the old mixers, of course, but it is good. And the price is right, of course. I haven't had any problems with it so far, and the power seems good. The big downside is the instructions to hand wash the attachments. I throw mine in the dishwasher anyway...

Purchased because I wanted a nice mixer and one that would semi-match my Kenmore stainless steel appliances. It's a perfect match to my kitchen. It is plenty strong when required yet gentle when it needs to be. Easy to clean and easy to store, what more could you ask for?
