    Quiet, Powerful, Techy and Awesome! January 16, 2012

    After almost 15 years our garage door was due for replacement -- we decided that if we were going to do the door we were going to get a whole new system. Our old system was chain driver and noisy. Not to mention that when it closed the door it almost "slammed" it down. Wanting something quieter (since the garage sits under a bedroom) we decided to evaluate belt driven units and came across this unit from Sears. We gave it a shot and couldn't be more happier!

    First, let me say that when I mean quiet I'm talking about Q...U...I...E...T. Compared to our old opener this is like night and day. It has a very smooth operation that will gently open and lower the door. I like the fact that as the door is nearing the end of its travel that it slows down automatically so you don't have this "slamming" effect. No doubt this is saving a tremendous amount of wear and tear on the garage door.

    The battery backup is also very handy for those times when the power goes out (especially during storms). You will get about 15-20 cycles of being able to open and shut the door with the battery. The battery itself is tucked up inside the garage door opener unit itself so it stays out of sight and out of mind. The wall controller will give you status updates should it need attention.

    What we really love is the Assurelink technology built into this. I can't tell you how many times I've went to work and wondered "Did I close the door?" or get a call from a friend who needs something and have to either give them the code or leave the door open for them. No more of that with this Internet-enabled opener. Just a simple click and I can check the status of the door or close/open it remotely. It's a great geeky gadget to show off on guy's night!

    Overall, we have been more than happy with this opener and the price was cheaper than most of the competitor's chain drive units. The fact it is Internet-enabled is an added bonus!

    Quiet, compatability issues March 06, 2012

    Easy to install and quiet. However the box states that the opener is compatable with HomeLink (which is the system made by Johnson Controlls that makes the buttons that are built in to the car to operate the garage door.) BUT it is not compatable with ALL HomeLink cars, and I suspect it is not compatable with most, especially models older than 2011. Something that the Sears in store salesman did not know (he actually knew very little about the garage openers at all) and something that is not disclosed on the box. After furstratingly following the written instructions in the box and the manual for the car, I called the installation help number at Sears. I was directed to HomeLink. HomeLink's web site (homilink.com) says that the Sears openers with the single yellow anteana may require a $50 repeater unit to link to HomeLink. Now if HomeLink knew this, why did Sears not know this? Why did they not properly train the sales people and technical assistant people and disclose on the box that the unit will not be compatably with the HomeLink in my car? Because I might buy a different unit at a different store? I called Sears back and they could offer little help and no resolution to the problem. While I am happy with the opener, it runs very quietly, you should know that there is a compatability problem with various universal remotes. My older keypad also would not sync, but ok a new keypad comes with it. But the point is that Sears does not disclose this information. The instructions state that you press the Learn button and the opener will simply learn the remote. Not True. Older remotes, keypads and cars may may not connect to this opener, if you are ok with that then it is a great opener.

    I was very excited to get this door opener when it first came out and the Assurelink worked quite well. However, after 3 months it started exhibiting strange behaviors with motor control and error codes. The spring on the belt drive was the first thing to go (which cost me $75 from my installer to repair). Three months later, I received Error 15, Motor control on the panel as well as 5 Flash Errors which indicate a Bad Logic Board according to the manual. Customer service would not send me a new logic board and wanted to charge me $75 for a service call to repair their first run product. When an opener costs $220 and they want to charge $75, I'll go with a unit that works. Craftsman is not the name it used to be and it saddens me.

    Sears had the best price for this feature rich opener compared to the big home improvement stores. Purchased over the internet with a store pickup which saved money as the store price was full price. This is the only opener I found with all the features. Installation was simple as documentation and instructions were thorough. Took me a couple hours to replace my existing opener. Love the AssureLink feature & backup battery. Belt drive motor is extremely quiet. Only problem was that the HomeLink buttons in my autos were not compatible with this opener. Research revealed that there was a HomeLink software upgrade in newer cars and compatible devices in 2011. Thus, older autos are not compatible with newer devices. However, a call to HomeLink solved my problem. Depending on the car you drive you may qualify for a free HomeLink Repeater Kit that enables you to use your older car's HomeLink buttons with newer garage door openers. My car was on the list so I just had to pay shipping ($7) to have the repeater mailed to my home (otherwise the repeater cost $50).

    Wow, this unit is amazing. The assure link feature is awesome as well as the the ease of which the door go down. I love the pause feature right when the garage is just about close....great product....
