For the money, you just can't beat it. August 07, 2010

This has plenty of power for all of the jobs around the house. It's not for professionals, or heavy use, but it should be perfect for the average user. I bought this for my dad for Father's day and might just have to get one for myself. He loves it!

Got too hot and then died during first time use! July 01, 2010

I have noticed similar negatives from others on this site.  I wish I would have read them before using the Craftsman Corded Hammer Drill.

I had to hammer drill approximately 10 3-4"deep and 1/2" in diameter holes in my concrete slab for anchors.  On the FIRST hole, the drill got hot and smoked.  I let it rest.  I drilled another and let it rest.  I let the drill rest at least 30 minutes between each hole.  The next day, I had to drill one of the last holes, and about 1" into it, the drill suddenly completely died.  Nothing could be done.

This drill was just over a year old but never used before this time.  It seems that there is a major engineering/manufacturing problem with this drill.  Buyer beware.

    Poor Quality January 25, 2012
    By CharlesRonk of Hillsdale, MI
    Pros:
    price
    Cons:
    Overheats,quality

I have had this drill for about 3 years. I don't use it that often because I only use it when I am drilling in concrete. A year ago I would have rated it  5 stars but then it started to have an issue with the switch on the top that goes from drill to hammer drill mode. Now it started getting really hot with little use and then stopped working all together. Its not heavy enough to make a boat anchor so I guess its time for a new drill. This disappoints me because I expect quality tools that get used as little as I used this drill to last  lifetime if taken care of the way I care for my tools.

Poorest craftsman tool I have ever owned. December 06, 2011
    By captaincaveman of Watertown, SD
    Cons:
    Overheats

I purchased this drill earlier this year for some minor hammer drilling into basement brick walls and for my larger portable drilling needs. After less than 5 uses this thing smokes and sparks terribly. My neighbors 20 year old 3/8" B & D has more power for drilling a hole.. The drill now has to have the chuck turned to make the drill work at all. Of course I no longer have the receipt for it and the local Sears store won't return or exchange it. I do not blame them I do not want the piece of junk either. Guess I will have to buy  a competitors drill

Craftsman 1/2 in. Corded Hammer Drill November 14, 2011
    By Laf2312 of Lafayette, IN

This is a great Hammer Drill from light to heavy duty.  I have used this Hammer Drill for regular drilling and hammering.  The drill does get slightly warm after extended usage.  However, it continues to work great and never locked up.   I have owned drills made by another maunfacturer and htey have been nothing but repair on a constant basis.  Great purchase for the money!
