For the price, this is one of the best 7-1/4 circular saws you can purchase. I looked at several models from other manufacturers before deciding on this craftsman. I have found the laser beam to be very accurate (you can turn it on or off before the cut to either double check the proposed cut line or to use it for final cutting). At a hefty 14 amps, you can plow through about anything you're confronted with.
The scales are clearly marked on the plate and for the adjustment levers. They are quite easy to use because of their placement and they are generous in size. The user friendly handles makes the saw itself very easy to hold and operate.
I have only one concern when cutting a 4x8 sheet of plywood. The sturdy aluminum plate is about 1/8 thick, and if care is not exercised when using an 8-foot guide, the thin plate can easily slip under the guide about mid-point and throw off the cut.
Although not a critical issue, the case is surprisingly well built and securely holds the saw, laser glasses, wrench and edge guide.
All in all, it is my opinion that this Craftsman is one excellent circular saw.

7 1/4 Circular saw
I buy all of my tools with the crafstman logo and I am usually satisfied, but this tools has made me change my mind about Craftsman. I have had used this saw twice and foud out that the Laser,Blade and Guide are not in line with each other. This tool has plenty of power and works good as long as you don't won't to cut straight. I have tried to exchange it at my nearest sears store refuses to satisfy me. I my have just gotten one in a hundred but but sears is not standing behind there product.

Used it to cut down some doors and also on 2x4s goes thru it like butter, but use it 20 feet away from everything you don't want covered with sawdust.

good bang for the buck
Compared all the popular brands to this one. Even though this saw has a one year warranty, and the rest have 2, this is by far the better saw for the price. All the other brands have thin cheesy stamped steel base plates, or magnesium that flexes too much. This saw is the only one in this price range that has a wide thick rigid aluminum base. Makes a difference on cutting accuracy since we tend to push down on the saw as it cuts. Sure, it has no brake, and the laser could be a bit brighter, but by then your putting out more money for a different caliber of saw.

I have been very pleased with the way the saw has worked on the project that I am currently working on. This is my second craftsman circular saw from Sears. The first one just stop working after 15 plus years. The saw was on sale & since I needed a new on, I purchased this one after reviewing several different designs & manufactures. Again, I would recommend this to anyone who uses this for around their home for their projects.
