The Craftsman 7-1/4 in. miter saw has a durable 9 Amp motor with a 100% permanently sealed, front and rear, ball bearing motor that provides 5000 rpm. Weighing only 16 lbs., this miter saw has ample power to cut, rip or plunge through soft and hard woods alike. The compact and portable design allows it to be moved conveniently from site to site or surface to surface using the carry support handle found on the rear of the tool. The cast aluminum upper blade guard is lightweight, yet durable. The clear view lower blade guard enhances the view of the blade, as well as, the work piece being cut. An ergonomic D-grip handle provides comfort and a secure grip. The handle also features a 2-position safety switch, helping to prevent false starts. Additional features include the tool-less miter/bevel adjustment knob, an easy-to-read miter/bevel scale, and adjustable hold down clamp that holds the material safely in place while it's being cut. The sawdust extraction port with collection bag keeps the work area clean from excessive dust and debris. The port can also connect directly to a 1-1/4 in. hose adapter for a wet/dry vac (sold separately). An easy to use "On Demand" Laser Trac laser emits a bright red guideline onto the work piece for guidance while cutting with one flip of a switch. The miter saw comes with two bonus carbide tipped blades, a 24 tooth for rough cuts and a 60 tooth for smooth cuts.

Good value, but lacks precision September 06, 2007
After cutting some pretty sloppy miters, I checked all adjustments. The fence left and right halves aren't in the same plane. I adjusted the fence to be accurate if only using the left fence, so to get a true 90 degree or 45 degree angle, the first cut has to shorten the lumber so that the second cut won't cross to the right side. Someday I'll grind the fence to be in the same plane. The laser was off by at least an 1/8 inch. That wouldn't be too bad, except the adjustment screw is tamper-proof. I removed it with vice grip pliers, and replaced it with another screw. It was easy to adjust to line up perfectly. If you need high precision, this saw may not be for you. However, I thought the extra setup was ok as the saw was so inexpensive. It is light weight and easy to store.

BADLY MISALIGNED . . . SPRUNG !!! August 20, 2008
I had my eye on this little while. The display model just seemed to have very precise vertical motion. HOWEVER !!! When I got mine home and raised it for the first time from its locked position, it SPRUNG so badly to the left that my first cut made a new plunge through the insert. IT NEARLY CUT INTO THE FRAME !!! I tried to adjust the fence, laser & degree indicator to at least match the blade, but they couldn't go THAT far. UNFORTUNATELY ... this is not an adjustable component of the saw. SO SAD !!! The display model looked so PROMISING for some precision cuts on small stock. Am taking it back tonight. NOT SURE if I'll get a refund or try for round two. ON A POSITIVE NOTE: The laser lined up with the angle indicator out of the box, the indents seemed nice and snug, the fence was square to the laser & andgle indicator ... and IT IS LIGHT . . . VERY EASY TO MOVE AROUND. IF . . . IF . . . IF this was square, it would be a GREAT addition . . . but ??? I will DEFINITELY check it for square in the store before I take another one home. Sweet little package ... but make sure you get a good one.

I'M A CAREER CARPENTER. ON LARGE JOBS I'LL USE MY 10 IN. FOR ALL THE BREAD AND BUTTER JOBS I'LL USE THIS LITTLE SAW. GOT IT ON SALE ($70.00) AND WOULD'VE PAID THE REGULAR PRICE HAPPILY. IT'S LIGHTWEIGHT AND THE BLADES COULDN'T BE MORE AFFORDABLE... (...DID I MENTION IT'S LIGHTWEIGHT?) WHAT'S NICE IS, I CAN SET IT ON THE EDGE OF MY CRAFTSMEN 10 IN. PORTABLE TABLE SAW, RIP THE STOCK DOWN...MOVE A BIT, AND CUT IT TO LENGTH. (THIS ARRANGEMENT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE WITH THE 10 IN. COMPOUND.) I'M TOTALLY HAPPY WITH THIS LITTLE GUY.
